Alright back with some more rankings after an exciting set of color rush games! This will not include rankings of teams fields because obviously everyone hates anything that is not plain grass, team logo at the fifty, and then team names in the endzones. Although, camo fields probably won’t catch on after this event regardless. Anyway, the rankings have had some big shake ups and are starting to take form into what they could be going down the stretch as well as showing us more strengths and weaknesses of each team. There is still plenty of games left so do not feel disheartened if your team dropped in these rankings since we are not even close to finished yet!
For anyone that needs a refresher about how the graph works:
The graph provided also has a set of color coded boxes for easier reading across the board. If a stat is in a GREEN box, that means the stat is exceeding average and is on the high end of the league. A YELLOW box means the stat is above average and sits just above the league standard. An ORANGE box is a below average stat, and a RED box means the stat is a failing stat. Green boxes are worth 3 points, yellow are 2, orange are 1, and red are 0. The totals are then divided by the maximum points possible for the grade at the end of the graph.
And now the rankings!
1. Kansas City Coyotes (2-1) Up 1
Kansas City currently leads the league in points scored and with their game against the Seawolves, they seemed to not have a single issue on either side of the ball on the pursuit to the top. It was both an offensive and defensive manhandling of a team that felt some different effects of color rush week. LOrdreSombre was the driving force of the Coyotes against the Seawolves with 131 rushing yards and two touchdowns that were in a full collection of points from both sides of the ball. Now, with the great success against Norfolk, Kansas City felt the away game disadvantages with constantly shooting themselves in the foot against Dallas. They might have been angry at the field or the sunburned Birddog logo because every other play was a penalty for the Coyotes that led to a close loss against Dallas. Unfortunately, that isn’t something that can be quickly fixed since some penalties just increase in away games so going forward I expect the offense to keep churning out amazing games while the defense holds along for the ride with making key plays at home. Expect the Coyotes in the playoffs.
2. Minnesota Grey Ducks (2-1) Down 1
Minnesota slipped up just a bit from the top spot but this is not nearly as big of a drop off as it might seem. Minnesota’s defense has stayed dominant during the color rush weeks and still has plenty of bright spots when it comes to the future. Wong still is a big bright spot for this team, shutting down the Buccaneers in week 2 with a pair of picks that shut down the slim chance of scoring and one of the interceptions led to a Minnesota score! Then the battle of the pinks in week 3 turned into a death by kicks as the Minnesota offense could not find a rhythm to follow along with. The defense was still lights out against Portland, only allowing sixteen and not more than one touchdown in a single quarter. Minnesota’s biggest issue is obviously the offense and anyone can point that out just from watching the games. Their defense is definitely the best in the league, but if the Grey Ducks want to have a chance at winning the Ultimini, they’ll need all of the help they can get.
3. Tijuana Luchadores (2-1) Stay
Tijuana found a perfect medium to put themselves in after their close, low-scoring, affair against Portland. They got blown out in London then blew out Bondi Beach back home. That is not a bad position to be in, but definitely confusing to determine what sort of weaknesses the team might have due to the inconsistent issues. Although, that might not be a bad thing considering they can come away with a good record if they blow out everyone at home. Muerto put on a show against the Royals despite the loss which always warms my heart to see a tight end playing so well. The offense still played well overall but not scoring with all of these yards won’t help anyone. Then the yards led to some scoring as the Luchadores took down the Buccaneers and rookie Jason Waterfalls led the team in yards (outside the quarterback, of course). The Luchadores in the next few weeks are going to definitely be a challenge to completely stop, and any players should push for scoring since they have the yards on lockdown.
Tie-4. Portland Pythons (2-1) Up 2
Fun fact: no team that has ever used black and pink has ever lost in the sim. The Pythons channeled their inner Atlanta Pink Ponies to bring their underdog status into their color rush games with strong showings against Dallas and Minnesota and is the first team that didn’t split their wins despite wearing different colors. Their first game was a close nail biter against the Birddogs where their stars shined bright enough to keep any other holes on the team from holding them back. McKyle didn’t have the greatest passing game, but with the talent he had to throw to, he made perfect use of it. Their defense also had great awareness to play heads-up ball with turnovers and they kept Dallas from coming back in the game. The Minnesota game breakdown has already been given, but for the Portland perspective of the close battle, Toy Robot deserves all of the praise for keeping the Pythons alive and dropping two 40+ yard field goals. This could’ve been even better had he hit his third attempt from that distance. The Pythons have plenty of potential for close games down the entire stretch and have a similar build to the Grey Ducks with a monster defense that has kept them in games. Every game with the Pythons is going to be interesting since they seem to be 50/50 all the time.
Tie-4. London Royals (2-1) Up 4
Tied with Portland, the Royals also managed to come away undefeated during the color rush weeks with a big win over the Luchadores and a tight rope match against the Seawolves. Only people that seemed to read the rankings were the Royals, so I hope that this jump pleases everyone reading this far! Dustin Parmelee had a great rookie quarterback game against the Luchadores with limiting his mistakes and successfully scoring three times despite only 130 passing yards. The team may not have lit the stat sheet up, but a big win was still the outcome from all of the team effort. Speaking of team effort, the game against the Seawolves was truly a full effort. Parmelee may have taken a step back to earth, but rookie running back, Kiara Tenoh but the team on her back and could not be stopped. This might end up being the offensive performance of the year in only week 3! Definitely a big turn around from their first game, the Royals have shown that they have a lot of potential for this season and that they aren’t going to shy away from the challenge after losing plenty of players to call ups.
6. Dallas Birddogs (1-2) Down 1
Dallas is in an interesting position and that’s about the best summary you could come up with. They have a rookie quarterback that is playing pretty well, their receiving core is all experienced, and their defense is all decent. Despite this, they only barely lost to Portland with some troubles in the rushing game that seemed to hold them back. Plus, the rookies around the team are still having some turnover issues. Then we go into the Kansas City game which had explosive plays that took advantage of any penalty opportunity that the Birddogs were given. Can’t be unhappy with that when your rookie quarterback throws for four touchdowns against the best team in the league. Dallas has a similar outlook to Portland with plenty of games that could go either way and that will be interesting to keep track of. In a few more games, Dallas could be above Portland or might end up bouncing around this position.
7. Norfolk Seawolves (1-2) Down 3
The first of the teams that lost both of their color rush games and is showing the downsides of limited wide receiving talent. Kansas City hit every weak point the Seawolves had on the team and made points off of each thing that Norfolk could be worried about. Plus, they did it on a field that had “Pogyotes” in the endzones. There isn’t a lot of positives to look at from the first color rush game, but the second one does give a bit more positivity if you happen to think Norfolk could rise above the roster holes. Kelvin Harris sent the team on a quick high as they return a pick six and show that the defense still exists even after a 39-0 smackdown. Rookie tight end Nick L. Back had a good game and was able to give a good bright spot on Norfolk’s offense. As previously stated, the Seawolves for the rest of the season are going to have to hope their tight ends and running game can fix their offensive struggles and that their defense can have more active players making plays instead of their bots.
8. Bondi Beach Buccaneers (0-3) Down 1
Well…at least the Bearccaneers was a fun idea? Bondi Beach does not have a great peg leg to stand on outside of Zaylren and it is quickly showing just how much of an issue that is. Squidward Tentacles and Tron Carter slowly are becoming a decent combo with more consistent play but when they’re surrounded by an offense of bots, there won’t be enough opportunities for them to take games into their hands. For example, Bondi Beach’s game against the Grey Ducks did feature some good Buccaneers’ defense, but not any offense to really score despite three quarters of holding the Ducks to nothing. It doesn’t get much better against Tijuana even when they score. Apologies Buccaneers, I’ve been on terrible situations before and the only thing you can look to is next season and right now it seems that might be what Bondi Beach needs to do if they plan on success. Just keep the ship floating.
