Episode 4, Season 2. Two sims left for each league. The playoff race is heating up. The awards races are heating up. Teams are getting ready for their playoff runs or planning their offseason. Everyone is scouting for the upcoming drafts. The race for #1 overall pick is heating up. Week 13 in the minors is scheduled for tomorrow. Week 15 for the majors is to happen in a few hours. Everyone will be watching. Why not be ready with all the knowledge and scenarios? Let's get to business.
As always, we start from the minors. Week 13 is set for tomorrow, but let's start with yesterday's double week, starting with Week 11.
On probably the match of the week, Lucha emerge victorious, on a grueling close quarterback dominated game, decided, ironically, by a Jean-Jacques Leroy field goal, with 8:51 left in the game. MIN QB Kazmir Oles Jr. was out of his mind, finishing the game 33-47, for 444 yards, 4 tuddies and a pick. On the other side, TIJ QB IsHe... ReallyInvisible was mirroring Oles Jr. in every step. Finished 21-25, for 192 yards and 3 tuddies. He also carried the ball 5 times, getting sacked 3, punching one in himself on a 1 yard run. Minnesota finished the game with THREE receivers over 110 yards! Janis Lux had 4 catches for 130 yards, and two tuddies! An offensive slugfest, a 31-28 win for Tijuana.
Over in Dallas, Norfolk were on their last chance. They HAD to beat Dallas if they wanted to have a playoff hope. Dallas came out swinging, for a quick 21-0 lead at the start of the second quarter. It was looking grim, and Dallas would coast to an easy win. Well, Norfolk struck FOUR times in 13:34. Raeni Clarke TOOK OFF for 87 yards, Matthew Holford punched it in from the one, Nick L. Back (what a name) caught one, and Sal Ami (what a name as well) caught another one. Raeni Clarke had pulled Norfolk from hell to heaven within less than a quarter. Half time, and Norfolk was up, 28-21. And it wasnt over yet. Clarke took off again in the third, this time for 74 yards, puting the Seawolves up by 14! The fourth quarter was same craze! Dallas bouncing back, as Erik Gaare and Jummy Nardello each rushed one in. Game was tied at 35, with 5:32 to go. Norfolk drives, gets the field goal with 1:27 to go. An unnecessary roughness brought Dallas in field goal range, and with 44 seconds left, a JJ Jay-Jaymison Jr. field goal tied the game, forcing overtime. There, Norfolk's hero by that moment, Raeni Clark would become the game's tragic figure. A costly interception at the 28 yard line, set up Dallas for the win. Jimmy Nardello got his third rushing TD of the game, giving the 44-38 win to the Dogs and eliminating Norfolk from playoffs. If the sim keeps loving Clarke like that, as long as she is at under center in Norfolk, they got hope. Dallas looks like a legit contender.
Another close game in Kansas City, where the Coyotes played host to the Pythons. Both teams needed the win for their playoff ticker chase. Portland would strike first, Kansas City responding for the whole game. It was obvious that the team that would strike twice in a row would win. And KC did just that. With 33 seconds remaining, Izuku Campbell scored the game winner from 28 yards out, KC get the win, 20-17.
Lastly, we got London hosting Bondi Beach. Bondi Beach had no hope. London had 10 more minutes of possession, and with having the better roster, it was obvious BBB had no chance. LON QB, and MVP candidate, Dustin Parmelee went 20-31, for 231 yards with two tuddies. On the Bucs' side, LB Senbyo Korin had the game of his life, with 11 tackles, 2 for loss, and a sack. Kansas City take the division league, following Minnesota's loss to the Luchadores!
And we move on to week 12. I will leave the game of the week for last, and I will start with the upset of the week. KC played host to Bondi Beach, for a seemingly easy win. Well, BBB QB Dexter Zaylren had another opinion. 3 touchdowns for him, all in the first half. Shut down defence by BBB as well, and a 28-0 lead at half time. Second half was more of a technicality, BBB got their second win of the season, 35-21, KC fell to 7-4-1.
The game no team had anything to game from was a walk in the park for Portland, who blew Norfolk out, 45-17, on the back of a second quarter run, where the Pythons scored 17 unanswered points, jumping to a 31-10 lead at half time. The zillionth 4-td performance by a QB of this stream came from Panda McKyle. The POR QB had 14 completions in 23 attempts, for 230 yards, and the four aforementioned tuddies. Nonetheless, both teams will watch the playoffs at home, and it is heartbreaking to see Norfolk's chances get evaporated like they did in the Dallas game.
'Grit, Defence, and Field Goals" was the name in London, where the Royals hosted the Grey Ducks. Rainbow Dash was 3/3 on the night, but Oles Jr. threw two touchdowns. Levy Tate missed the XP on the second MIN TD, with 2 mins left, Parmelee drove his team down to the 6-yard line, but the clock had hit triple zeroes before Reed tackled Suzuki, ending the game. Minnesota win the game, 13-9. London fall to 6-6, 1.5 games behind 2nd place, and Minnesota take the lead of the division back with an 8-4 record, half a game above 2nd place Kansas City!
But man, oh man. The game of the week delivered. Tijuana visits Dallas. Dallas secures the division with a win, taking a two game lead and sweeping the Lucha, with two games to go. Tijuana need the win to keep their hopes for a division win alive. Boy did the game deliver. Tijuana jumped to a quick 10-0 lead in the first, leading 16-7 at half time. But the second half was craziness on Earth. Dallas came out guns blazing. Field Goal, Stanzi to Gaare, and a TD rush by Gaare, and the Birddogs are up, 24-16. The fourth was grit. One field goal apiece, and Dallas is up, 27-19, with 5:07 left in the game. ReallyInvisible drove Tijuana, finding Muerto for six, cutting the lead to two points. The two point conversion failed, but Tijuana managed to recover the Onside kick!. ReallyInvisible had 57 seconds to get his team in field goal range. Without timeouts. And so he did! JJ Leroy hit the game winner with 22 seconds to go, from 53 yards out! Tijuana got a HUGE away win, by the skin of their teeth, 28-27, and everything is wide open in SFC.
Playoff picture:
NFC: KC @ MIN
SFC: TIJ @ DAL
Ultimini HFA: DAL (4-1 record vs SFC to MIN 5-2 vs SFC)
Thursday's schedule:
Lucha @ Yotes
Pythons @ Bucs
Seawolves @ Grey Ducks
Birddogs @ Royals
All the eyes will be turned to Kansas City and London, where the last playoff ticket will be decided. London needs a win and a Kansas City loss, to get within half a game of the Coyotes. Kansas needs a win to punch their ticket to the playoffs, remaining in the chase for the division win. The Grey Ducks have a way of securing the division on Thursday with a win, provided KC have lost to Tijuana. However, Bondi Beach secure the #1 seed, not sure if they own the pick or it was traded away, with either a loss or a Norfolk win, so I expect them to have their eyes in Minnesota.
Crou's predictions
I haven't really followed the DSFL this season, but if I were in front of a bookie, I'd go with Lucha, Pythons, Ducks, and Birddogs.
Let's move up to the majors! The week was crazy. Three one score games, all with playoff implications. In a very crazy game, that San Jose was leading up until 2:27, Berlin gets a very important win over the SaberCats. At first glance, the game was looking like a defensive slugfest. A touchdown and a field goal apiece, after three quarters would never prepare us for the insanity the 4th quarter was. SJS strike first with Crossley. Berlin tie the game at 17 with 85. Pick thrown by Jack, Berlin ball. 85 strikes again, Berlin up 24-17. Campbell gets the kickoff and takes it home for 103 yards. Game tied at 24, 46 seconds left. Kickoff by McDairmid. Touchback. 46 seconds from 25 for Kaepercolin to do his magic. Encroachment from Arrow Jr. Ball placed at 30. Kaep had to pull a trick of his sleeve. He delivered. Found Hood wide open. Hood turned on the jets, went 70 yards, and that's all she wrote. Big win for Berlin, San Jose falling back on their chase of the third ASFC spot.
On to the north, where the Wraiths hosted the Hawks. The Wraiths needed the win to keep their playoff hopes alive, but Baltimore was a tough nut to crack. The game was neck and neck, with no team able to get a comfortable lead. A lead that changed hands twice, both times in the fourth quarter. Yellowknife was leading for the first 44:14 of the game, but Baltimore was hanging on. With 7:20 left in the game, Busch Goose gave Baltimore their first and only lead of the game. It only lasted for 5:54. Skywalker was tackled for a safety, and Jack led his team downfield, found Zee Rachs in the endzone, with the 2pt conversion being good. The Spooky Gang get the hard fought 30-27 win, which proved to be futile, as Sarasota did their job against Philly.
It was a seemingly easy outing for the Sailfish. With 7 minutes left in the first half, Sarasota was up by 14, 17-3. It was looking like it was already over for Philly. Tied game at 20 apiece with 12 mins left in the third. We had a game. Or so we thought, Two touchdowns and a safety later, Sarasota are up by 16, 36-20 with a quarter left. Well, even if they were already eliminated, they were at home, and they had to fight back. And so they did. Philly managed to TAKE THE LEAD! Negs leads the team downfield and finds Borgo San Lorenzo. Matt Cross gets the pick home for six. Fencik nails the 47 yarder. Philly up, 39-36, with 25 seconds left. Yellowknife is hoping. But those seconds were enough for the Fish to get a 54 yard field goal and force OT. There, it was a gritty defensive deadlock, that was broken after Jacob Small nailed the 45 yard field goal. Sarasota punch their playoff ticket, Yellowknife miss out right after winning it all.
Over in Colorado, the Yeti almost had a scare against the Chicago Butchers. The game was close, with Colorado never managing to get anything greater than a 4 point lead, up until 14 mins left in the fourth, when Richard Gilbert got a touchdown on a six yard run, putting COL up by 8. Final score: Butchers 13, Yeti 21, and the battle for supremacy in the NSFC and the HFA through all playoffs continues. In Honolulu, the Outlaws had an early scare, falling behind 10-0, but they picked it up in the second quarter and never looked back. Cortez connected with Pama on three separate occasions, Nakamura showed why he is an MVP candidate, and the Outlaws cruised to a 45-20 win.
New York travelled to Austin, looking for a win, and they got just that. They had a scare, as Austin struck first, but they took it to the chin, got a 14-7 lead in the dying seconds of the first and never looked back. Howitzer was in his back, going 30-38, for 316 yards, three tuddies and a pick, while Jackie Daytona had a nightmare of a game, throwing three interceptions.
Finally, let's talk about upsets. Because we had a massive one over in Santa Ana, where the Orange County Otters hosted the New Orleans Secondline. Or is it Second Line? Anyway. Nobody would expect NOLA to win. Let alone like that. Even when NOLA was up 20-0 at the half. You'd expect the Otters to show up. Ramza found Evans for 75 yards and a tuddy, and you'd hope it was the spark. No. It was not. NOLA were poised. They never lost the lead. Ramza turning the ball three times didn't help them either. The Secondline got an easy 48-26 win, keeping their playoff dreams alive.
Playoff picture:
ASFC: OCO @ NY, AZ bye, NOLA #4, SJS #5 ( AZ has a 7-3 div record to NY div record, H2H 1-1)
NSFC: SAR @ COL, BER bye (Berlin has a 8-2 div record to COL 8-3 div record, H2H 1-1)
Ultimus HFA: BER
Today's schedule:
Liberty @ Fire Sallies
Butchers @ Yellowknife
Yeti @ Sailfish
Hawks @ Copperheads
Otters @ Outlaws
Hahalua @ Silverbacks
SaberCats @ Secondline
The things here are clearer. Berlin and Colorado need to win and the other to lose, to get a lead for NSFC #1 and HFA through all playoffs. The Sailfish would benefit from a win and a Berlin loss, as they are only one game behind them right now. A OCO win over AZ eliminates San Jose AND NOLA, if the Cats beat New Orleans. A AZ win over OCO puts the Otters in huge trouble if NOLA beat SJS, as NOLA own the H2H vs them, droping OCO at #4, with NOLA getting to #3. The Cardiac Cats get in the mix with a win over NOLA if AZ beat OCO. Both NY and AZ need to win, as they are tied atop the ASFC, and would really benefit of the other team losing. Reminder that we are in the 29th season of the league. Orange County have never missed playoffs.
On the 1OA race however, things are messed up. HON are in the lead, but AUS is half a game back, and BAL is half a game behind AUS. Philly and Chicago are 2 games behind BAL and 3 behind HON, so they will have to settle for 4OA or 5OA.
Crou's Predictions:
Sallies, YKW, Fish, Copperheads, Outlaws, Silverbacks, Secondline. Nothing wrong with going home, and all these teams have gread home records, facing teams with questionable road records.
That's all for this one. Thank you for reading and see you on the next one! Peace!
