8. The equivalent for the ISFL of the NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year Award, the Angus Winchester Best Dude Around Award is given to the ISFL player whom best exemplifies the lofty standards Winchester established of always being a 'good dude'. Arizona Outlaws quarterback Charlemagne Cortez has been nominated for this prestigious award this season and is incredibly deserving of being recognized. He has time and again shown a level of selfless dedication to the people of the Great Phoenix Metropolitan Area and Outlaws fans everywhere, wherever they might reside. Just recently, Cortez flew to London, where he still maintains a home after playing for Royals of the DSFL for four seasons, to meet with a young lady who is a part of the Make-A-Wish foundation. She is suffering from a rare form of bone cancer, and Cortez was happy to donate his time to go and hang out with her. They took pictures, tossed a nerf football, and he even video called Outlaws star running back Tatsu Nakamura in so she could me the ISFL's reigning Most Valuable Player. She got lots of signed Royals and Outlaws swag and a big hug to finish off the day. Cortez has also been a key donor to many organizations providing food and clean water to economically challenged families including Water for Good and the World Food Program USA. Charlemagne was always raised with a strong sense of community, growing up affluent, but with parents who knew the struggle of where they would find their next meal. Both his mother and father were raised in poor households among multiple siblings. As Mr. and Mrs. Cortez both managed to make something of themselves and provide a better life and home for their own family, Charlemagne strives to make this a reality for other poor families. He has spent vast amounts of his free time with job search companies and education groups finding capable and driven people from the often forgotten parts of our society and giving them the boost they need to achieve lofty goals and ambitions. For all of the reasons previously mentioned, Charlemagne Cortez has been nominated for this prestigious award and is indeed very likely to win it. Of course, none of this charity work was done with hopes of more recognition, but in the hopes that his giving back will make his family and friends proud of the generous and hard working man he has become.
21. While I do feel that the new sim has overall been a good improvement on what we used to have to work with, it seems that for all of the 'predictability' we had with DDSPF16, we have that much unpredictability now. Of course, that isn't always a bad thing, but sometimes, things should be the way they are presented. Perhaps this comes from being on one of the better teams in the league from a TPE standpoint and having lost early in the playoffs time and time again. Maybe it's because I've been outperformed statistically on several occasions by quarterbacks with less 'talent' than me. These frustrations could definitely be the source of my gripe with the sim, but I know that I'm not the only person that feels this way. I do feel like things such as homefield advantage not almost entirely deciding the outcome of games is a good thing, but what about the new sim makes things feel so damn random. Like, outside of their locker room, did anyone think that the Silverbacks would even get close to winning the Ultimus this season? I would almost guarantee not. The most popular picks as far as I can tell were the Outlaws and the Fire Salamanders, which makes a ton sense. I know that the best team doesn't always win. That's why they play the games. They do win a lot of the time though, and I feel like that is not what we have been seeing with this sim 'upgrade'.
