S28 DSFL Draft Class: A Retrospective
Ah, the season 28 DSFL Draft Class. My favorite DSFL Draft class, but I'm biased. This class gave us plenty of big names that we all love to root for, as well as some underdogs that have yet to shine but can prove themselves.
This class gave us Jay Cue Jr, Tre'Mendous Johnson and Sam Squanch, to name a few. These three and others have had amazing seasons in the DSFL and I'm sure will go on to great things in the ISFL. So let's see their journeys and where they ended up, shall we?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Let's start with the overall 1st pick, Jay Cue Jr. In his rookie season in the DSFL, Cue Jr set the single season record for rush attempts with 167, rushing yards with a whopping 817! Wow! He also set the record for Rushing TDs with 5, longest run with 43 yards, 11 catches, 77 receiving yards, and the longest catch with 29 yards. You would think he would be another 1st round pick overall, correct? Nope, he dropped down to Yellowknife at 11th overall. Still impressive, but he fell lower than Smyth who had a less than stellar season.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Up next is the second pick in the first round. Tre'Mendous Johnson. While he didn't set as many team season records as Cue Jr, he did set a few for Bondi Beach, with 133 tackles, a piddly 1 tackle, and 1 tackle for loss. Not much data on Johnson, so unfortunately I do not have much to report on him, but he was drafted 13th overall by the Hawks, my team after this season with the Royals.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Finally, we have Sam Squanch, a fellow Londoner and overall great guy in the locker room. Sam was drafted third overall in the DSFL Draft for S28, and while he didn't make that much of a splash in the DSFL as a whole, he did have a pretty good rookie season in the DSFL, setting some season records for London, with 97 tackles in a season, 2 sacks and forced fumbles, and 1 fumble returned and 8 fumble yards, and was drafted 7th overall by the Yeti
--------------------------------------------------------------
And there you have it, my analysis/recap of these three 1st round draft picks rookie seasons. This is my first media piece, and I was pressed for time so I didn't go as in-depth as I would like to, but I hope that you did enjoy this, as it took me a while to write. Constructive criticism is always appreciated.
