Alright every one, this is the first part of my rookie interview series for the Norfolk Seawolves in the Developmental Simulation Football League. I have created an interview series to introduce our new rookies to the public. I am excited to have on Line Backer Nathan Claflin today. He is one of the rookies on the Norfolk Seawolves who has a bright future. Nathan, lets start with draft night. Take me through what was going through your mind leading up to the draft and then once it got started.
Nathan Claflin —
I had absolutely no clue where I was going to go or when, I was just excited to have an opportunity to contribute on any team. My preferred team had always been the Seawolves, they were the first team to scout me, the first to let me into their discord server, and I had become a legend in their jeopardy server. So when the 42nd pick came up and my name was announced I was ecstatic to go to my favorite team. The fact that the jeopardy server is now named after me is just a cherry on top of everything else.
Sal Ami —
Yes you are the most incredible Jeopardy player I have ever seen. I know I have asked you on multiple occasions if you are Ken Jennings, and although you have denied it, I still think you could be. You earned those naming rights to that server and I would say that if we ever do a International Simulation Football League Jeopardy tournament, you would hands down beat all the other users. Going back to the scouting process, I was the scout that had the luxury of interviewing you. I was really excited when I found out that you were going to be a member of our team. Without naming them, how many other teams reached out to you in the scouting process? Did you have any feeling that Norfolk may be the place that drafted you?
Nathan Claflin —
Every team reached out to me and about 3 others invited me into their discord server. I had the feeling Norfolk would pick me when the GM told me that he liked how active I was in the discord and an how it was something he values in a player.
Sal Ami —
Wow those three teams definitely missed out. Well shifting gears here, your rookie season is almost here. What kind of impact do you see yourself making on the field this season? If anyone, who would you say you pattern your game after?
Nathan Claflin —
I feel like I will have a positive impact, I doubt I will be a star at first, but my play should contribute to the overall defensive effort I do not really know who I model my game after, I kind of just play my own way
Sal Ami —
Yeah I completely understand. You will see your player improve a ton throughout the season. I really enjoyed watching that last year. What are your thoughts on the team's outlook this season? Thinking it will be another rebuilding year or that maybe we could be a surprise playoff team?
Nathan Claflin —
I think we will be good, I hope for an Ultimini obviously, That said, I think we will definitely be a contender for south division champs.
We will hopefully be better than last year
Sal Ami —
Yeah either would be great and a step up from where we were a year ago. I played 3rd string tight end last year so occasionally I would get lined up at slot receiver and even a handful of times at running back or full back during the course of the games. Outside of the draft, is there anything that sticks out a highlight so far of your time in the league?
Nathan Claflin —
I mean I felt pretty good about my performance in the games at the prospect bowl, and you know I love jeopardy
Sal Ami -
Yeah your play in the prospect bowl was really solid. In Jeopardy I do not think I have told you this, but you post answers to questions before I can even get done reading the questions haha. It is incredible! In my recent media article, I said that I think you will be a future Hall of Famer. What are your thoughts on that?
Nathan Claflin -
Wow, thanks for speaking so highly of me. I mean, I believe that I have the talents to make it to the hall, but I didn't know anyone shared that belief. I will play the best ball I can and work hard to improve and see where things go
Sal Ami —
You will be an all time great my friend, I have confidence in that! As we near the closing of this interview, I wanted to ask if there is anything that you want other teams to hear, or maybe something you would like the fans to hear or know about you?
Nathan Claflin —
I just want everyone to know, I am here and you should be afraid of what I can become, Norfolk will be thrilled to have had me, and I'm gonna make the rest of the league wish they had picked me sooner
Sal Ami —
Boom! You heard it here folks, Nathan Claflin is coming for vengeance this season. I am glad I don't have to play on one of the opposing offenses against you.
At the end of the season, I would love to have you back for a follow up rookie review to touch base on how your season went and what the future may hold. Is that something that you would be interested in doing?
Nathan Claflin —
Absolutely I will
Sal Ami –
Perfect. Well, thank you for your time today. Fans, be sure to toon into all of the Norfolk Seawolves' games this season. With hard hitting players like Nathan Claflin playing, you will see non stop exciting action. Best of luck to you, Nathan, I hope you have a great rookie season!
Nathan Claflin -
Thanks for having me on here. I really appreciate your time today. I can not wait to get this season started!
