An Overview of 1 Month In The ISFL
I joined the ISFL on a bit of a whim, having seen this advertised through reddit. This is my first sim league of any type and didn’t know what to expected or what a simulation league entailed. Initially my plan was to be a very sporadic part of the ISFL to fill in a game ball sized gap during the NFL offseason. However, this initial idea soon became irrelevant as I knew that being part of the ISFL community was going to take a far larger stage in my life.
I created my first player, choosing to select a TE. I joined on the 28.06.2021 towards the end of the S29 offseason. In hindsight, what turned out to be a relatively lucky time to join. For me at least it gave me enough time to grasp the basic mechanics behind the ISFL progression system, community etc before the start of the S30 DSFL draft. Though if I were to be very slightly pedantic the time between player creation & the draft could have been longer, just to gain the extra 5 or 10 TPE.
Once I joined the DSFL rookie discord, it became apparent extremely quickly how large the scale, complexity, and professionalism of the ISFL. Immediately I was welcomed to a wonderful community by several members. Each member kindly offering to be of any help possible. It struck me how willing each and every one was to help, at this time I was certainly a very small fish lost in the ocean surrounded by what could as well have been shark but ended up a playful school. Here I would like to say a thank you to each and every member of the community who helped me in those first days. Without the help and support, I could have easily felt isolated and thus left the ISFL.
In a blur draft night came and went. I had to say, as a UK resident it was impossible to stay up and watch the draft live. However, early the next morning whilst having breakfast I had the draft on reply, and I was full of anticipation. Once again, I was struck by the professionalism & dedication by each, and every person involved. A particular shout-out goes to for creating the wonderful draft day cards I was drafted by the Portland Pythons with the 28th overall pick – no bad for a full-on rookie I’d say.
Once I’d been drafted the fun really kicked in. I was welcomed by the wonderful Python’s community, and this is where the real spirt of the ISFL. Every user was immediately welcoming and willing to chat and was just extremely friendly. This community spirt I believe is the real reason why I can see the ISFL community continuing to grow for many years to come.
I have always been willing to take on extra roles and responsibilities in real life, so midway through my first week with the Pythons, the twitter account came open and I didn’t hesitate to take that on. Taking over the Twitter account has allowed me to interact with members of the ISFL.
I’ve now been a part of the DSFL for a month now and each day has been extremely fun and entertaining. Here is to the next month and the rest.
Thank you for taking your time to read this! I look forward to meeting you all in the future.
