Hello ISFL!
What a first half to the season we’ve had! As in every season of the ISFL, there are a few dominant players early on, plenty of exciting upsets, and a number of surprise performances from players around the league. Around this time, users from all around the league are starting to take stock of the big players for not only the race to the Ultimus Bowl, but also for the end-of-season awards.
However, in seasons past we’ve seen limitations in the assessments made by the voting body for ISFL awards and the Pro Bowl rosters. A few seasons ago, we created the Simulation Football Writers Guild to as an alternative to the existing voting body and in response to a perceived lack of in-depth analysis of player performances. We are a collective of users from all around the league that were interested in collecting statistics from the simulation, while also calculating additional advanced statistics like Kicker PAR and QB ANY/A to help assess player performance. The ultimate goal for this effort is to create the annual All-Pro roster and highlight the top performers from each ISFL season. You can look at last season's All-Pro rosters here.
As we look to continue this effort into the future, the SFWG is looking to add new members to the guild. The more interested and informed we add to the team, the better we can make the All-Pro rosters!
Since we are an independent organization, involvement with the SFWG does not pay directly. However, I have found the All-Pro team process to be a really enjoyable and fulfilling part of the last few seasons and encourage you to join if you’re interested. Members are expected to participate in discussions on positions and statistics and to join in the nomination and voting process. This generally occurs shortly after the end of the regular season, and from my experience is not terribly time intensive. We also encourage members to get more involved with analysis. Members in the past few seasons have put together a lot of great articles and resources like Every OL Ranked, An Advanced Statistical Look at Wide Receivers, and the Comprehensive Statistical Compilation.
To join the team, please DM me on Discord. My username there is qWest#1380. In that message, please let me know why you’re interested in the project and why you think you’d be a good addition to the team. I’d also prefer for you to link me to any media you’ve done in the past that you think could be relevant to this work. If you have any questions, feel free to include those!
