Obviously on field success is an easy way to define success in the league. It is the final product that all the team building and earning feed into. Obviously it is incredible to see those efforts pay off when your team wins games, or even manages to win the championship. I imagine that is a truly special feeling. And it is quite nice to see your player doing well. Again, that is a clear indication that all your hard work and dedication that goes into earning consistently is paying off. But I think the way I see it is being successful in this league is about enjoying the experience. Only one team can win a championship and when it comes down to it we as individuals really have relatively little control over the actual sim results. Yes there are things we can do, like earning, but ultimately it comes down to sim doing what the sim does. So I think the success is enjoying the time you spend with a team and hopefully making the locker room environments more impactful for the others that you get to interact with on a day to day basis. While I haven’t wont a championship or any individual awards, I still consider my time in the league a success because I’ve made some wonderful friends and truly enjoy hanging out with everyone on the Yeti. And that’s a win in my book.
The thing that got me into the league and has kept me around is the outstanding community. The original S22 Dallas Birddogs team was wonderful - the locker room was new and so we had a lot of room to really establish our own personalities since there weren't a lot of senddowns or veteran members dominating the space. Since then I've always looked at "success" in the league as a metric of the community and its engagement - whether its in a personal locker room I'm in or across some of the general and other offshot chats that exist around the league. When I was General Manager in Dallas I never weighed success based off whether the team was winning, although that was something that was exciting to see and experience. Instead I judged success based off how many members we had engaging in the locker room and how many people we were getting hooked on the league and the experience it brings. Some of the best moments were when we'd have a member we never thought would be active end up updating and becoming engaged. It was always wonderful to see some of the higher draft picks really hit and start investing their time into the league too. The more people investing time into the league the better the league is as a whole.
To me, there are two ways to have success in the league, one in universe and one outside in the real world. To me accolades, and titles in the league as your player are surefire ways to be successful, with hall of fame being the greatest identifier of a successful player. However, I’d rather go more in depth about success in the league as a user. I’ve been around the league since season 2, I’ve enjoyed it ever since I’ve been a user and originally found the league. For me success was always finding a fun locker room and good people to be around. Philly’s season 2 locker room was a prime example of this, we were having a lot of fun as a team in the locker room and we enjoyed it, it made for a great experience and it is ultimately what vaulted me into loving the league how I do. To me, success in this league has and always will be enjoying what is going on both in universe and with other users, Minnesota’s locker room has game nights and just a great atmosphere, and that to me is how success should be defined. In sim success can be tricky, luck based, and just hard to achieve with how the sim is, but what isn’t tricky is making friends and enjoying the people you’re around on a daily basis. We are a community first, and the community should be an enjoyable place for all. (247 words)

Success is hard to judge and is an opinion that changes from person to person. Normally, you'd say that championships are the true showing of success, but you can also achieve personal success through awards and making the hall of fame. With all that said, you can also find success through the relationships you build, the friends you make, or if you just pump out media and graphics and succeed in making insane money, or working every off-season job like @infinitempg. Personally, I've always been a team player in what I've done, whether in life or in the league, I'm always there to help out a friend in need, a teammate who needs someone to talk to, or a gm that needs a position filled out. Unfortunately, not everyone has the ability, or the luck to achieve what they believe as success, I don't believe I was successful as Von Hayes, not because he was bad, but because the team with him never achieved what my ultimate goal is in this league, the Ultimus. While I've been upset at coming up short on awards before, I've been more upset when my teammates have been snubbed, I don't care about individual success here anymore. This league is a team sport, and requires strong bonds in order to keep the team together, happy, and successful.
To me, being successful means to feel worthy. When one feels accomplished, like they have achieved anything of significance. The feeling of accomplishment is subjective as the merit of worth varies on an individual by individual case. To most players, the split comes down to personal success and team success. For the players that choose personal glory, that normally derives from players that seek to make the hall of fame. Obviously everyone wants to make the Hall of Fame but the lofty standards usually end most dreams after one or two pro seasons. I have no problem with Hall of Fame dreams except that these dreams often come at the expense of team success. I could never see myself choosing a team to wrap the entire playbook around me or because they are devoid of talent that wont take touches/snaps away from me.
Now wanting to be a perennial pro bowl player or awards finalists is slightly different to me. These people tend to find a balance of being successful and helping their team win. I play good, ergo my team plays good and therefore I should be balloted at the end of the season. Then there are others who just want to be part of a winning culture and will play whatever role necessary. In the end, all these people want to leave an impact on the field. Meanwhile, there are others who want an impact either in a war room, a locker room, or in a league job. The behind the scenes and off field topics matter as well. They all play a part in making the league more attractive. Then there are a good chunk of people who like how attractive the league is and do their part to make the environment as cordial as possible. Friends joining friends, making new friends ---- all here for the journey. Then there is a faction that likes pyrrhic victories but we won't delve into that.
What is the meaning of anything?! What is the meaning of life? Is it to love? Is it to do good in the world. What motivates people to get up and do things in the morning? This question has been asked by countless lives throughout centuries and yet no one has a good answer for it. And does that define you as being successful in life? But to find the meaning of the International Simulation Football League, it’s much simpler. Loads of users and players would say it is to win championships or even build out a hall of fame player. But my friends it is much simpler than that. It comes to having fun. Every user and players click to join to have fun. Entertainment is a key factor here. Sure you’ll have the super serious users who come in wanting to run the league but the common denominator across the league is just to have fun. If you are having as much fun as possible in this league, then you are a successful user or player. Some people find fun in different aspects of the game but it’s all the same. My goal for Panda McKyle and myself is just to have fun as we see it. And that is what makes it worth it.

Success is in the eye of whoever is experiencing it. Some people are lucky enough to have friends that help them win titles and awards. Other people are unlucky enough to be on teams that award voters hate and refuse to respect even with the information presenting to them. Some people are so good in the game that even though all the various politics that they find themselves in they can still in a freak bit of math and procedure break the entire system in such a way that after years of protest there is finaly a breakthrough to prevent such a happening from happening again. Most people don't find themselves in the same set of circumstances as another person. Most people never experience the same feelings as another person. Most people never know the same story as the people they are spoken of. But everyone experiences things in the league that they can't quite explain or relate to others. This is the measure of success to me. Its the memories of a werid and wacky conversation about milk flavors that gets wildly out of hand. Its the feeling of belonging to a ground that you're proud of being apart of. Its shareing the stories and exchanging the memories with other people that will define success for me in the league.
The meaning of success in the International Simulation Football League is a fickle notion to think about. I believe it’s successful if your team continues to win games. It would technically feel successful when your team wins the Ultimus or Ultimini. And then awards too. It works in the same function. When your player goes on to win awards, that is the ultimate goal and it defines success. You have put in the work to gain the TPE necessary to improve your player to their highest potential on the field during the games. Collectively teams that have majority of players with high earnings, that team has a tendency to be more successful that some badly drafted teams. Here’s my but though: what do you call teams that maybe get to the playoffs but lose to a team in overtime because your team punted from your opponents 35 yard line? That’s bad sim luck. And that bad sim luck is what stands between your team’s success and “successful team/season/player”. I joined this league several seasons ago and before S28, I see only who won the Ultimus. I don’t see any other teams that may or may not have had successful seasons.
