I saw this as one of the Ultimus Week task and decided to turn into a full article. I’m not sure how well I’ll do since I have limited knowledge of the ISFL but I thought I’d give it a shot anyways.
Quarterback - Dexter Zaylren - Berlin Fire Salamanders | Bondi Beach Buccaneers - 812 TPE
Ryan Negs and Joliet Christ Jr. were also options here but I felt like I wanted a Quarterback that had most seasons before regression available and who had a decent amount of TPE. Zaylren is second in total TPE for the season twenty-eight draft class and has eight hundred and fifteen TPE at the moment.
Running Back - Jim The Vampire - Austin Copperheads - 898 TPE
Goat Tank was a player that I took a long, hard look at because he led the ISFL in yards and season thirty and he just had a really wonderful personality overall. The only problem is that he’s only got one season before regression and while he has a lot of TPE to lose, I think Jim is the better long term pick for this team. Plus, Jim’s played his entire career behind Zoe Watts so I’m curious as to what he could do as a lead back.
Running Back - Busch Goose - Baltimore Hawks - 812 TPE
This is interesting because a couple of people who answered this question decided to take only one running back which I find odd. I’m defiently going to take two, espeically because Busch GOose is a reciving back so he’s much more versatile than Jim who's more of a traditional running back. I like Goose for the same reason I like Goat Tank except he has a couple more seasons before regression compared to Tank.
Wide Receiver - Saleem Spence - Sarasota Sailfish - 839 TPE
While doing this, I realized that I know very little about ISFL wide recivers. I took Spence partially because of recent bias. The Sailfish just won the Ultimus so it makes sense to take one of their wide receivers. However Spence leads the season twenty-eight class in TPE, the same draft class that our quarterback Dexter Zaylren belongs to, so they should spend the majority of their careers together.
Wide Receiver - Taro Raimon - Arizona Outlaws - 1494 TPE
This might be a shocking pick because Raimon is in regression but I feel like I need a veteran presence somewhere on the offensive side of the ball so why not grab a highly skilled seasoned veteran for my wide receiver two spot?
Wide Receiver - Tugg Speedman - New York SIlverbacks - 1169 TPE
The highest earning TPE Wide Receiver of season twenty-six. Speed was fifth in yards in season thirty and he’s the current captain of the New York Silverbacks so he has good leadership potential.
Wide Receiver - Luke Quick - Philadelphia Liberty - 796 TPE
User Bigred1580 was a hall of fame wide receiver on his former player Nate Swift and as a member of the Liberty, He’s got a connection with pat (Spoiler Alert: I took Pat.) He’s also the second highest earning wide receiver of season twenty-eight so our wide receiving core should be amazing in the future
Tight End - James Wilkinson - New York City Silverbacks - 638 TPE
A former Ultimus winning Tight End. Can’t go wrong with one of those. Honestly, TIght End is a position that’s hard to fill since there aren’t a lot of them and I know very little about the position as a whole.
Offensive Line - Stumpy Jones - Sarasota Sailfish - 801 TPE
He’s a teammate of Saleem Spence and the sixth highest earning player of the season twenty-eight draft class as an offensive lineman.
Offensive Line - Mo “Mamba” Magic - Chicago Butcher - 822 TPE
He’s fairly deep into regression and likely to retire soon but he is also the best offensive lineman in the league right now. Hopefully he can have one more magical run on this team before he disappears.
Defensive Tackle - Candice D. Fitinyomouf - Austin Copperheads - 648 TPE
He’s the second best defensive tackle of season twenty-seven and I’m more familiar with him than Jason Roberts.
Defensive End - Bean Beanman - Orange County Otters - 904 TPE
He’s the second highest TPE defensive end in season twenty-seven and like Candice, I’m ore familiar with him then the person in front of him in Marlon Brando.
Linebacker - Vincent Jones Jr. - New Orleans Second Line - 1121 TPE
This was a really hard choice for me. Vincent Jones, Ernest Lover, and BamBam McMullet are all high level linebacks from the season twenty-six draft class. I went with Jones for personal reasons. He’s a former TIjuana Luchadores linebacker as am I on my former player so Jones gets the spot. I also wanted a season twenty six player so that my entire defense core doesn’t all regress at the same time
Linebacker - Duke Cheeks - San Jose Sabercats - 854 TPE
I wanted to go with a younger Linebacker and Cheeks is the best linebacker of season twenty-seven with eight-hundred and fifty-four TPE.
Linebacker - Brach Thomaslacher - Austin Copperheads - 1379 TPE
I wanted a veteran presence on the defensive side of the ball and Thomaslacher led the league in sacks last year. He’s the fifth highest TPE linebacker of the class but I still think he can get it done on the field.
Cornerback - HeHateMe PickSix II - Chicago Butchers - 901 TPE
The highest TPE cornerback of season twenty-seven.
Cornerback - Maverick Bowie - Austin Copperheads - 1346 TPE
A teammate of Brach Thomaslacher so hopefully they’ll have some chemistry on the defensive side of the ball. Bowie was also second in the league in interceptions this year. He’s also the second highest-earning Cornerback of season twenty-four.
Cornerback - Doy Fieri - Philadelphia Liberty - 1271 TPE
Pat’s a great user, general manager, player and podcaster. (I really miss your podcast, Pat. Bring it back.) So I think he’s one of the most important picks. Partially because I have no intention of being the general manager of this team long term.
Safety - Dogwood Maple - New York Silverbacks - 1137 TPE
Highest earning TPE safety of season twenty-six and former Ultimus winner.
Safety - Sparky Boom-Boom Man - Colorado Yeti - 830 TPE
Highest earning TPE safety of season twenty-seven.
Kicker - Cade York - Arizona Outlaws - 562 TPE
The highest TPE kicker of season twenty-seven and the sixth highest TPE kicker overall.
Total Team TPE: 20037
This is interesting. We’re eighth in total TPE but we’re third in total Defensive TPE. This team might struggle for a while as the offensive side of the ball grows into their full potential. I think we’re one or two more free agent signings or draft picks away from being a truly elite team but that’s just a total guess on my part. I didn’t just want to grab the highest TPE players available and then watch them all regress into nothingness within two or three seasons. I don’t think that’s a long-term plan for building a successful franchise from the ground up.
Quote:If you could create a team using any active players in the league, what would that team look like? Would you build a group of all-stars to contend in the next Ultimus, or a team full of jokesters for the fun of it? Describe the roster and why you chose the players you did.
