Sconnie: Hey everyone, Sconnie McHits back again with another post-draft interview...this time with DSFL rookie and recently drafted Dallas Birddog, Escanor Sama. Thanks for making the time for me today!
Escanor, why don't you start by giving us your thoughts on the draft? Were you expecting to go to Dallas? How did you feel about where you were picked? Too high? Too low?
Escanor: What’s going on Sconnie, big fan. Plenty of time for you, my guy.
I enjoyed the draft. Enjoyed watching people that I’ve become friends with come off the board. Huge shoutout to John Riggins for being a first round pick. We’re definitely gonna tear up the league on our way to 4 straight Ultiminis.
Im super stoked to be a Birddog, although I didn’t expect them to have me on their draft board. I thought I’d be going to Minnesota or Norfolk. I didn’t expect to fall all the way to the third. I started getting kinda disheartened, but my boy John Riggins kinda came in and sure enough he called that I was the next pick coming up. Have I mentioned I love that guy, man? Haha. 22nd overall pick, but I’m gonna put in the work to make sure it’s unfathomable I fall that far in the ISFL draft.
Sconnie: Great response, and I'm a big fan of that confidence! What was the reception in the Dallas locker room like when you entered after being drafted? Are there users there you've really connected with already?
Escanor: I was immediately greeted with a warm welcome to the dog house. Everyone was still super excited. After a few minutes I got straight to work, asking about TPE advice, immediately went and spent the TPE I had stockpiled, getting ready for the preseason. I make some bold claims, so I’ve gotta be ready to back it up.
I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned it before, but I feel like John Riggins and I have connected fairly well. Definitely think we’ll be a dynamic duo. Still getting to know everyone, but it’s gonna be a great locker room culture.
Sconnie: What are your GM's plans for you this season? Where do you fit in amongst the receiving corps? Any talk of a long-term plan for you yet?
Escanor: Man it’s great, you know? I was willing to change positions if it was gonna be best for the team, but I definitely don’t have to here. I’m already slated to start as the WR2. I believe this is our WR1’s final season in the DSFL, I’m definitely gonna be learning a lot in the time I’ve got with him so that I’m prepared for that WR1 role when the time comes, and I’ll go from there for up to 3 more seasons.
Sconnie: Going in reverse a little bit...talk to us about your feelings on the league as a new user. How was the experience, which users really helped you out, and how was the scouting experience?
Escanor: I definitely enjoy being here. The discord presence across each locker room was phenomenal. I was constantly talking to IceBear, Katarn was the very first person to scout me, SchwarzNarr was always there to answer any question I had, and Madden and Rev ultimately took the chance on me in the end. So I’ll always be grateful for every single one of them.
Sconnie: Any teams or users you feel you've developed a friendly rivalry with?
Escanor: I think you and I will have a pretty good rivalry after I stiff arm you once or twice, haha.
Sconnie: Exactly the kind of answer I was hoping for. I really hope you try to beat us over the middle...I will knock you back into pre-draft, son.
Any predictions for Dallas and the DSFL this season?
Escanor: I’ll be sure to put up 150 yards and 3 TDs on the Norfolk Seapups.
Predictions for us this season? 2 words: Ultimini Champs.
Also RBOTY and WROTY? John Riggins and Escanor Sama.
Sconnie: Again, loving that swagger! I'll make sure we stick our capped CB on you in our matchups, haha. It was a pleasure as always chatting, I can't wait to see all that you'll bring to the league, and I'll see you out on the field!
Escanor: I appreciate you taking the time for the interview. See you on the field, Sconnie.
