Sconnie: Sconnie McHits back again, this time with a new teammate, a recreate from the recent DSFL draft, and a former Seawolves GM in a past life, none other than offensive lineman, Mauler Panda! Mauler, tell us about scouting and the draft. Did you have an idea of what team would select you? What do you think of the point in the draft where you were selected?
Mauler: Hey there! I'll be honest even though I have had family who were sea wolves and I'm a legacy pickup really I didn't actually know we're really expect this to happen. I had a lot of good talks with teams and so really I kind of was a ready to go to any team and I was going to give my all no matter what where I went however I am glad that the Sea wolves picked me up It is exciting to play where I adopted father played I'm hoping I can be an effective player for the team even though I don't think I'll be quite the star he was. I'll be honest though I was drafted even higher than I expected to go there are a lot of great players in this draft and I expected to go around or two later
Sconnie: I know we in Norfolk were super excited to be able to get you when we did, and we feel you will be a big boost to our offensive line. Tell us a bit about your adopted father and the Seawolves connection.
Mauler: Yeah well actually it's probably pretty obvious that I am not you know an actual panda like my adopted father flash. But he adopted me actually pretty soon after his time is a sea wolf came to an end and so I spent a lot of my elementary and high school years watching him play for Philadelphia I didn't get to see him do a whole lot for Norfolk, but there's always old footage I've gone back and watched with him on top of that my godfather was a general manager of the team years ago. He spent a couple seasons as the coach GM really and so after I was adopted I ended up spending a lot of time here in the back offices or in the training room when I was younger so I'm pretty familiar with a lot of the staff and the facilities obviously basically grew up on the field here
Sconnie: That's a great story and we are happy to have someone with such a connection to our team suiting up for us! Tell us about formally entering the locker room as a player during the draft. What was the reception like? Who have you really hit it off with in the locker room?
Mauler: It was pretty exciting! I'll admit on the car ride over I was a bundle of nerves. My father wanted me to really experience it without the weight of him being there too so I came on my own. I was really nervous and I wasn't sure what to expect it's really different up coming in as a player instead but everyone was really welcoming! I feel like they accepted me for me rather than as my father's son which was great and I can say that I have enjoyed talking to everybody in the locker room so far. However I will say that I have probably Hit it off the most so far with my fellow OL players. They all seem really great and it's nice to have that camaraderie with them. I will admit it is weird coming back to the place and seen so many different faces but what I'm used to but there are definitely a lot of familiar faces too
Sconnie: Have you had any talks with management yet? Do you have an idea of what your role will be this season and moving forward?
Mauler: I haven't had any talks with management so far actually but I'm not really too picky about what I do. I'm willing to do whatever role is needed, so I'm not worried about not having been contacted yet
Sconnie: Do you have any goals for this season or for your career?
Mauler: Well after this short stint I had in Minnesota winning a ring I can't say I can expect the same thing to happen here. My goal for this season is just to help the team improve as much as I can. I can say that I hope I'll be able to help this team win a championship but I know how hard that can be in the DSFL so I can't say I expect it to happen as for my career, I don't expect a whole lot out of it I just want to be useful
Sconnie: I know you alluded a bit to championship potential; what is your prediction for the Seawolves this season?
Mauler: Well the optimist in me wants to tell you that we have a really great lineup full of some really stacked players, but it's really kind of a toss-up in my opinion I think Norfolk will definitely improve over last season and if the cards are right definitely play off potential and once you make playoffs you know anything can happen so who knows then but I think playoffs is definitely a good possibility for this team
Out of character I have literally no idea I haven't made attention to team strength in like a year
Sconnie: Thank you so much for your time today! Any final thoughts for our readers?
Mauler: Of course! I want to let all of my friends and family first off know that I hope I can do them proud here and for all the fans of Norfolk and the sport in general who are excited to see what Will happen with the team I hope that I can make all of you proud to be Seawolf fans. I want the readers to know that I hope to be a player you can root for even if I'm not a player that's going to put up stats or rock the world with my gameplay but everybody's support through all of this just means so much
Kind of a word on it there but really just so excited to be here finally.
