Sconnie: Hey everyone, back again with a "new" teammate interview, this time with recent DSFL 2nd round draft pick and Seawolves kicker/punter, Jack Lewis! Jack, tell us how scouting went for you. Did you have an idea of where you might go? Any thoughts on where you were selected...too high? Too low?
Jack: Thanks for taking the time to talk with me, Sconnie! Overall, scouting was a great experience. I got to talk with every team and there were some great conversations that we got to have. Being in all the team's LRs also helped me get to know a lot of the people in the DSFL. It all definitely made the whole draft experience more exciting, as well! If I had to tell you where I thought I would go, deep down it was Norfolk. While there were multiple teams that needed a kicker and showed plenty of interest, there was just something about the connection to Norfolk. As you know, I spent part of last season there as a waiver pick-up and immediately, it just felt like home. I knew there was a lot of mutual interest in me staying there and I'm just really glad it worked out! Since this was my first time with a player in this league, I honestly had no idea where I would be selected. I know that being the only active kicker in the class definitely affected my draft stock. Being selected in the second round is a huge honor so it was a perfect night!
Sconnie: What was it like when you heard your name called and popped into the locker room during the draft? How was the reception from the team?
Jack: It was amazing! The locker room was PUMPED up. There is a fantastic group in there and it made me, again, feel right at home. Everyone was so excited for me and I was so excited to be back!
Sconnie: What are your goals for this season and for your career?
Jack: My goal for this season is to contribute as much as I can for my team, both on and off the field. That means being a fun and positive voice in the LR as well as making all of my kicks on the field. For the team, we know that this season is gonna be special. Personally, I would say its playoffs or bust this season, at the minimum. I would like to have a long and productive career. I want to go down as one of the best kickers in the league! Winning a few championships would be nice too, right? Most importantly, I want to have a fun time with some great people!
Sconnie: What's been your favorite part of the league so far?
Jack: It's definitely the people I have met. If it wasn't for great people, then it wouldn't be worth the time. Norfolk's LR has been incredible and I hope over the coming months and years in this league that I get to meet more great people!
Sconnie: Any predictions for your player and/or the team this season?
Jack: For Norfolk, I'm predicting a 10-4 record and a trip to the playoffs. With the roster we have, I think anything less than that will be unacceptable. For my player, I'm predicting I'll have a solid first full season, making at least 80% of my field goals.
Sconnie: Awesome...I know we are all hopeful for a great season from you and from our team as a whole. Is there anything else you'd like to share with our readers?
Jack: Thanks to everyone who has been so helpful and nice in my first couple of weeks in the league. I hope I get to grow my presence in the league and I can't wait for what the future has!
