After recently joining the twitter game with all of my fellow DSFL and ISFL players and teams (Follow me @JohnnyPatey11 by the way), I figured I would give the new players/rookies and the teams a quick look at what teams in the DSFL you should be keeping an eye on and what makes them special in their own way. This “study” is taken from Jul 20th DSFL preseason -Sept 11th when I completed this piece.
Coming in the 8th spot we have...
Kansas City Coyotes

Trash talk in the tweet for bonus - 0
After looking at the KCC twitter page, I mean what can I really say here? Looking at this page, there was absolutely nothing during this season at all.The most recent tweet that this had was from June 27th with nothing after, not even a retweet of another team or another player. Maybe I’m missing a new page that this team has and I’ll have to give them a honest review next year with a potential bump in ranking but this is very disappointing coming from a solid team in the DSFL last year.
If you are a player on the Coyotes and you are active on twitter, what’s your GM doing? Why are they not hyping you up? Over the next year, I’m expecting to see some activity and praise from the group of people they have on the team.
Coming in the 7th spot we have...
London Royals
Retweets - 0

When looking at the London Royals twitter page, it’s no wonder these guys won one game last season, are they even trying at anything in this league? I was not surprised when I landed on this twitter page whatsoever after seeing their play during the season. It looks like they had a lot of optimism during the start of the season after posting 3 tweets in the first week and a half. I assume this is where the mental game must have been going down in the locker room since they lost the first 3 out of 4 games of the season, luckily beating the Seawolves… They also did not post after that until September 8th after the season was already over and through most of the preseason.
Over the course of 53 days, London had 13 tweets combined which is a terrible number of 0.25 per day. If we have to give this team something to win at since they can’t do it in the DSFL, it may be to claim the winner based on tweets in a single day. They may have won with 9 of their 13 tweets coming from the draft but I’m not really going to fact check this since their season has already been a failure so I’ll give it to them. So all in all, not a lot of content coming regularly from a team that needs to pick up all aspects of their game. If they want to see some improvement in the locker room and on the field, they need to make sure they are recognizing the good and not turning into a ghost when **** hits the fan.
Coming in the 6th spot we have...
Tijuana Luchadores
Retweets - 0
Gifs/tweets - 17

Trash talk in the tweet for bonus - 0
After looking at the Tijuana twitter page, I really do not have that much to say since I think we may have a winner for the most boring twitter page that is somewhat active. This team's twitter page consisted of all one to two liners with no pictures, gifs or retweets of people around the league. The one saving grace this team has which still couldn’t save their rank in the twitter poll is that they were diverse with when they tweeted, all 17 did not come in a week, they were spread out over the entire season for the most part.
Over the course of 53 days, Tijuana had 17 of their own tweets/quotes which is at 0.32 but if counting retweets, they’re still at 0.32 tweets per day because they hate everybody else on twitter apparently. This is another team I have not heard much about and it looks like it will continue to stay that way since they don’t even want to promote themselves on social media at all.
Coming in the 5th spot we have...
Norfolk Seawolves
Retweets - 3
Tweets - 14
Quotes - 1
Combined total - 18
Trash talk in the tweet for bonus - 1 in total
When looking at the Norfolk Seawolves twitter page, there was not a lot happening on a regular basis. A few offseason posts but most coming during the season commenting on how the team performed during the games. I was shocked to see not as much offseason content since these guys seem to be buzzing all over the site with the new rookies 24/7, including I believe 3 or 4 in the first round of this year’s ISFL draft. As my hometown team, I was kind of disappointed to see that we were not into the twitter game, especially the trash talk part of it.
Over the course of 53 days, Norfolk had 15 of their own tweets/quotes which is a lowly 0.28 but if counting retweets, they’re at 0.34 tweets per day. The team known with one of the best LR in the league, really needs to step it out in the social media game or they may lose that crown just based on twitter performance. With a rising team with promising rookies and 2nd year players, expect them to step it up in all aspects of their game, no bias at all of course.
Coming in the 4th spot we have...
Dallas Birddogs
Retweets - 14
Gifs/tweets - 11

Combined total - 25
Trash talk in the tweet for bonus - 0
After looking at the Dallas Birdogs Twitter page, I was quite conflicted about how to feel about this in my rankings. The team only tweeted 6 times during the regular season and 19 during the offseason which has a main part in their ranking on why they are not in the three spot. They seem to be one of the top contending teams on twitter during the off season but have next to no presence during the season only talking about a few of their games. After analyzing most of the tweets, most of their own tweets consist of one liners with minimal gifs or pictures leaving them on the boring side.
Over the course of 53 days, Dallas had 11 of their own tweets/quotes which is one of the lowest totals at 0.21 tweets per day, but if counting retweets, they’re at 0.47 tweets per day. Although they may need some more original content, they were making up for it by showcasing many different players and teams tweets around the league which the rookies may be looking for.
Coming in the number three spot we have...
Bondi Beach Buccaneers
Retweets - 2

Trash talk in the tweet for bonus - 1 at the draft
When looking at the Bondi Beach Buccaneers Twitter page, it was more than I expected after not hearing much about the team during the first year of my playing career. During the season this team was not very active, only posting 5 tweets over that time span. Once the offseason hit, they were posting at a very active rate posting almost every single day whether it was retweeting something from a player or being hyped about the drafts. Looking at the overall quality of the tweets, there was not much substance with most of them being one liners but their gif game was pretty strong which made them more appealing.
Over the course of 53 days, BBB had 19 of their own tweets/quotes which is a lowly 0.36 but if counting retweets, they’re at 0.40 tweets per day. The team that I did not know much about coming into this exercise impressed me a little. With a little more work during the regular season and playoffs over the year, this could be a promising social media team and could be one of the top twitter pages to follow in the DSFL.
Coming in the number two spot we have...
Portland Pythons
Retweets - 4
Gifs/tweets - 46
Quotes - 0
Combined total - 50
Trash talk in the tweet for bonus - 0
After looking at the Portland twitter page, they had the potential to be number one in the rankings. They had a lot of diverse tweets from pictures, to gifs, to even shouting out some new people in their hall of fame. Not only did they show off the hype before game day a couple times, they also gave post game comments which was rare to see with the same consistency as this team.
Over the course of 53 days, Portland had 46 of their own tweets/quotes which is a great score of 0.87 but if counting retweets, they’re at 0.94 tweets per day, second behind the Grey Ducks. All in all, Portland showed that they care about their team, making sure they are well known in the twitter verse, but seeming not to care about others in the league. I look forward to anything extra they can bring to the table in the following season other than original content.
Coming in the number one spot once again…
Minnesota Grey Ducks
Retweets - 23
Gifs/tweets - 50
Quotes - 1
Combined total - 74
Trash talk in the tweet for bonus - 2+ 0.5 if you count trashing your own team.
After looking at the Minnesota Grey Ducks twitter page, I don't even want to review them. I think this team just excels at all aspects of the league whether it is on or off the field. Over the season it just looked like they got more and more confident since the consistency of these tweets was off the charts, only missing a few days with no tweeting. Not only did they have the most tweets they shared, they also had the most retweets of any team which brought them to a staggering 74 combined tweets over 53 days which is an amazing number of 1.40 tweets per day. For a team that is looking to three-peat, they have no problem telling you they are already back to back champs since they love to quack to quack all off season.
Although it does give me some satisfaction knowing that the Seawolves were the only team to beat the Ducks, these guys showed what a true social media giant in the DSFL should be like praising their team, retweeting the players and just showing positivity all around except for maybe that one executing clip…
Conclusion
In conclusion after looking through all the 8 team twitter pages, I am expecting a lot more from teams 3-8 in my rankings. The top two teams were far more active than the rest and it is not surprising they came 1st and 3rd respectively during the regular season. Keeping a social media team active and showcasing it will keep your players engaged in the long run which obviously is the end goal for a lot of the new players coming in. For the bottom 6 teams, all I have to say is stay consistent, you do not need to have the greatest tweet in the world to make it worth posting. Simply retweeting your fellow teams and players will hopefully bring activity to your squad and hopefully hype them up on a weekly basis. But ultimately, it will also bring you higher in my twitter rankings next off season which is obviously your main goal after reading this.
Also lets get some rivalries going in this league online, it seems to be pretty quiet on the social media with the trash talking...
