I was half way done this before last season, so I figured I’d finish off what I had started and take advantage of the sweet, sweet bonus going on. And I do generally like seeing the outcome of these, so I will even try and sneak one of for the draft that just happened. So here we go:
It’s that was time of year again, with the S30 ISFL draft wrapping up (a long while ago), we have our ’2nd’ newest crop of ISFL draftees. In this media piece, I’m going to be looking at the draft positions between the ISFL draft and the DSFL draft. To see who had their stock rise after a season in the DSFL and who may have slipped some spots from one draft to the other. Every time I do this, I stress that I have absolutely no knowledge of any teams needs or wants coming into the draft, I am solely looking at when a player got selected, not if a team had specific needs or a player had a connection to the team that ended up drafting them. So, please don’t read too much into this at all.
Without further ado, here we go:
Round 1 – Pick 1
Baltimore Hawks - LB – Sheriff Woody (Tijuana Luchadores - 7th overall)
The Baltimore Hawks used the first pick of the draft to select linebacker Sheriff Woody. Woody was drafted by the best DSFL team in the league, the Tijuana Luchadores (I promise this will be the only bias I show!), with the 7th overall pick in the DSFL draft. Sheriff recorded 82 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, one forced fumble and one fumble recovered, 3 sacks, 2 interceptions, 7 passes defended and scored one touchdown. With this stat line, it’s easy to see why Sheriff Woody rose 6 spots between the two drafts.
Round 1 – Pick 2
Honolulu Hahalua - S – Miles Weperom (Norfolk Seawolves - 1st overall)
With the second overall pick, the team from Hawaii went with the first overall pick from the DSFL draft. Safety Miles Weperom slipped one spot between the drafts, which isn’t too shabby at all. For the Norfolk Seawolves, Miles had 66 tackles, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, 4 sacks, one interception, 3 passes defended and 2 blocked punts.
Round 1 – Pick 3
Chicago Butchers – CB – Jason Garciaparra (Kansas City Coyotes - 3rd overall)
Chicago looked to add a corner back to their squad and did so with the selection of Jason Garciaparra. Jason was also selected with the 3rd overall pick in the DSFL draft so he did not rise or drop between the two drafts. Garciaparra had 56 tackles on the season to go along with one forced fumble, 3 picks, 1 passed defended and one touchdown.
Round 1 – Pick 4
Chicago Butchers – WR – Vincent Sharpei Jr. (Minnesota Grey Ducks - 23rd overall)
With back to back picks in the first round, the Chicago Butchers went with offense this time, selecting the first offensive player in the draft, wide receiver Vincent Sharpei Jr.. Vincent went 23rd overall in the DSFL draft and impressed with Grey Ducks with 78 receptions, 1223 yards and 12 touchdowns. So it is no surprise that the talented receiver moved up 19 draft spots.
Round 1 – Pick 5
Austin Copperheads – DE- Joe Torrent (Dallas Birddogs - 2nd overall)
With their first selection, the Austin Copperheads went with defensive end, Joe Torrent. Playing with the team from Dallas in the DSFL, he had 32 tackles, 8 tackles for a loss, 2 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovered and 5 sacks. Torrent was the 2nd overall pick in the DSFL draft, slipping only 3 spots to number five.
Round 1 – Pick 6
San Jose Sabercats – DT – Konstantin Selich (Kansas City Coyotes - 19th overall)
The San Jose Sabercats went with defensive tackle Konstantin Selich with their first pick of the draft, #6 overall. Selich had been selected previously by the Kansas City Coyotes in the DSFL draft with the 19 overall pick, moving up 13 spots. Selich had 7 tackles on the season and to go along with that one tackle for loss.
Round 1 – Pick 7
Orange County Otters – DT – Dominos Pizzaman (Bondi Beach Buccaneers - 21st overall)
The Orange County Otters will hope their pick at the 7th overall spot will deliver (sorry, I had too). Selecting defensive tackle Dominos Pizzaman who went 21st overall in the DSFL draft to the Bondi Beach Buccaneers and recorded 47 tackles, one tackle for a loss and one sack for the team from down under. Pizzaman moved up 14 spots between the two drafts.
Round 1 – Pick 8
Yellowknife Wraiths – QB – Dustin Parmelee (London Royals - 8th overall)
The team from the great white north used their first pick of the draft to select quarterback, Dustin Parmelee of the London Royals. Dustin had 248 completions on 395 attempts, good for 2607 yards, with 21 touchdowns and a rating of 90.1. Parmelee was drafted by the Royals with the 8th overall pick in the DSFL draft, keeping him in the exact same position between the two drafts.
Round 1 – Pick 9
New Orleans Second Line – WR – Squidward Tentacles (Bondi Beach Buccaneers - 9th overall)
The Second Line were looking to add some solid hands to their offensive squad and what better way to do that then by drafting a squid! Squidward Tentacles was selected 9th overall, moving him up 4 spots from the 13th selection in the DSFL draft. Squidward had a solid season for the Bucs with 85 catches for 1209 yards and 8 touchdowns. His longest reception was a 69 yarder.
Round 1 – Pick 10
Colorado Yeti – WR – Jason Waterfalls (Tijuana Luchadores - 15th overall)
With the 10th pick of the draft, Colorado selected wide receiver Jason Waterfalls. Waterfalls played for the Tijuana Luchadores in the DSFL before the draft and had 78 receptions, 1115 yards and 7 TDs. It was reported the Colorado really wanted to add the receiver to their team and were heard saying ‘don’t go Jason Waterfalls’ before each pick before theirs. Jason was selected by the Luchadores with the 15th overall pick in the DSFL draft, moving up 5 spots.
That’s the top ten, for mostly my sake, I’m going to switch gears here and write only about the players draft positions and not their success in their rookie season in the DSFL.
Round 1 – Pick 11
Chicago Butchers – TE – Nick L. Back (Norfolk Seawolves - 9th overall)
The Butchers used their third pick in the top 12 to go with Nick L. Back (love the name!). Back was selected with the 9th overall pick in the DSFL draft, dropping 2 spots.
Round 1 – Pick 12
Sarasota Sailfish – WR – Calvin Hobbes (Portland Pythons - 6th overall)
The Sailfish picked a player that brings great childhood memories back to me, with the 12th pick, Calvin Hobbes became the newest Sailfish. Calvin previously went 6th overall to the Pythons, dropping 6 spots in the drafts.
Round 1 – Pick 13
Berlin Fire Salamanders – WR – Mason Malone (Minnesota Grey Ducks - 13th overall)
Malone was originally drafted by the Grey Ducks as a QB with the 4th overall selection in the DSFL draft. Since then, Malone has switched positions and was drafted 9 sports lower in the 13th overall spot by the Berlin Fire Salamanders.
Round 1 – Pick 14
Baltimore Hawks – OL – Pepeless Johnson (Bondi Beach Buccaneers - 37th overall)
The biggest jump of the draft so far, the Hawks used their second pick of the first round to select Johnson, who went 37th overall in the DSFL draft, moving up a whopping 23 spots.
Going to start slimming this down even more with the 2nd round picks.
Round 2 – Pick 15

Up 5 spots
