A New Linebacker Has Entered the Ring
Talls
Time has come for the unthinkable to happen. Nick Flint has just finished a great third season at The Ohio State University and he has decided to leave the league to begin his professional career. This comes just three weeks after he had guaranteed fans that he had no intention of leaving early after winning a National Championship. This is no surprise after the college star initially committed to The University of Michigan and then switched to rival Ohio State one hour before the deadline. This prompted his controversial reply of "I don't give a damn for the whole state of Michigan".
Now, just three years later, Flint has his eyes on a bigger stage. Growing up, Flint had always watched the various professional leagues and was quoted at the age of 12 saying he would be a hall of famer in the ISFL. Now, he begins the first step of realizing that dream. Flint has declared as a linebacker for the DSFL draft and has spent the last few months training with his good friend John Cena (whom is a big fan of Flint).
The relationship with Cena raised eye brows in his sophomore year after Flint was spotted in a brand new Acura NSX with the WWE superstar. At the time, Flint stated that he was "just taking his friend's car for a test drive". Though not against NCAA regulations, it did not sit well with on lookers. Last season (and Flint's third year at Ohio State), he managed to land a sponsorship with the Lion's Den, taking full advantage of the new name, image, and likeness rules in the NCAA. Not exactly the most classy of sponsorships.
To understand this aggressive and super competitive player, we need to look back into how he got to The Ohio State Buckeyes. Flint grew up in Columbus, Ohio going to the local Gahanna-Lincoln High School. This affluent school system has historically been well funded and has been able to provide its players with the best of the best training and equipment. Though the Golden Lions rarely make it deep in the playoffs, there have been a few stand-outs that made professional careers. Flint fully intended on being one of those players.
Flint made the varsity roster as a freshman (skipping the freshman team outright) and was a starter for all four years. In that time, Flint has become the all-time leader in tackles and sacks for Gahanna-Lincoln. During that time, Flint famously was recorded on the local news for running past a reporter naked, running from opposing players of senior tag. Senior tag is a game played by Gahanna-Lincoln seniors that is played with NERF guns. Once hit, the player is out. The only way to not get out is to be naked in public. Luckily for Flint, that did not affect his commitment to The University of Michigan (at the time).
Outside of all of Flint's off-the-field antics, he has had a historic college career. His first start happened to be in The Big House against the University of Michigan, the same team he trolled so epically in the recruiting period. In that game, Flint managed to record 11 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, and an interception. The perfect slap in the face for the team that failed to recruit the star. This game was the first instance in Flint's career where he began his iconic ice hockey celebration (where he pretends to take a monster slap shot and celebrate the goal). Flint went on to start ever game after that historic first game. Though he only played a little over 2 seasons for Ohio State, he is in the top 20 in all time Ohio State rankings for tackles, sacks, and quarter back pressures.
What will the DSFL have in store for the new standout? For starters, Flint looks to be staking his career on his pass rushing ability. He has been training with his teammates to improve his strength, speed, and agility. He has developed into a decent new member of the league. But, as all fans know, it isn't about how you enter the DSFL, it is how you develop in it. During a recent press conference, Flint was asked about how he plans to handle his time in the DSFL. "Well, first I have to make a team, and I should, I mean, have you seen my college tape? But, once I get in the door, I plan to use the time and the facilities to the best of my abilities and continue to sharpen my abilities. By the time I am ready to leave the DSFL, I WILL be a force to be reckoned with. No one will be safe. Especially my own quarterback in practice.
I know to be the best, you have to practice like the best. So, I hope my new team mates are ready for a fight." Flint stated.
When asked where he wanted to play, Flint stated "I really don't care where I play, as long as I can prove myself before the ISFL draft. I would prefer a warmer climate so that I can continue to work year around, especially outside. And I don't mind the beach. There are some prime motivators on the beach, if you get what I mean" with a wink.
Looking at the other linebacker prospects, there is only one that can compare to Flint. That would be Joe Smokes from the American University of Paris. There are a lot of comparisons being thrown around and Flint had this to say: "Who? Joe Smokes? What kind of weak name is that? Are you kidding me? We aren't even in the same league. How can a Frenchman even compete with this Grade A American Beef?". This response is right on target for what most Flint fans have come to expect. It remains to be seen whether Flint will be able to make his mark or just irritate everyone in the DSFL and become a flop. Tune in to the draft to find out.
