BILLS BULLSHIT
Bill’s Bullshit is a daily journal of William Fontaine de La Tour Dauterive’s life in which he vents about the things in his daily life that cause him some irritations or annoyances. Once a day he will write about these things in hopes of getting his anger out on pages instead of the football field.

I was on the internet today glancing over some football reading material when I noticed an article discussing the phenomenon that has been happening ever since Colin Kaepernick decided to start protesting the National Anthem. At first I must admit, I was distraught. How could anybody consider disrespecting the American Flag? I simply could not understand what was happening and could see how many people became angry over the disrespectful act committed by the starting quarterback. I remember how much anger and confusion this whole thing was causing around the league and couldn’t help but share in the hate. Being an Army veteran myself, I took it personally and felt that what Kaepernick was doing was disrespectful to every single person who has ever wore a military uniform, especially those that have lost their lives while serving this great country of ours. It didn’t make any sense. And then, after hearing Kaepernick’s reasoning behind his actions, I began to see what he was discussing. He was protesting the treatment that black Americans and people of color as a whole face at the hands of the police. It was beginning to sink in the message that he was trying to convey. And in my personal opinion he was right. He risked and lost his career in pursuit of a greater purpose. He began showing a light on a great darkness that has plagued this country for far too many decades. It was time to tackle an issue that has been on the back burner for far too long. It was a deadly and prevalent problem we have continued to ignore. No longer could it be so. The 49ers quarterback had in a very significant way, made you focus on the problem. And it was for all intents and purposes a very successful protest as it forced everyone who wanted to watch a football Hagen last year aware that America had a deep problem that stemmed from its own racism, and it was about time someone force us to face and try to combat this problem. So as I sat there reading that article, I began to ask myself how much has truly changed since the protests had began. And a sad reality had began to come crashing down on me. Not only had the problem in the US not gotten better, in many regards I feel it has gotten worse. Still everyday there are news articles about another unarmed black man losing his life at the hands of the police. Ultimately I feel so helpless in this matter as I feel there isn’t much I can do personally to help the situation. All I feel I can say is to all my friends who are people of color, please stay safe out there. I will continue to pray for your safety until this problem is properly dealt with. And to all the racist police out there that encourage this type of sick behavior I have only two words to say to you: Fuck You!
