Season 1 was great for Robert Phelps of the Orange County Otters, right up until the end he led the league in receiving yards and he ended the season with 84 receptions. Now that we are in season 2, Phelps continues to impress, he has surpassed the record for most receiving yards, that was held by Josh Garden and there are still 2 games remaining in the season. Let's take a look at his numbers from last season and this one for a quick comparison:
Season 1:
Phelps, R.
GP: 14
Receptions: 84
Receiving Yards: 1142
Average Yards per Reception: 13.6
Longest Reception: 39
Touchdowns: 3
Season 2:
Phelps, R.
GP: 12
Receptions: 73
Receiving Yards: 1211
Average Yards per Reception: 16.6
Longest Reception: 42
Touchdowns: 5
As you can see, Phelps has already surpassed all of his own results from last season with the exception of Receptions. With 2 games remaining and Phelps receiving approximately 6 per game, he should be able to pass his previous total of 84, but it will be close. Let's take a look at his averages and guess at where he will end the season:
Projected Season Stats for Season 2:
Phelps, R.
GP: 14
Receptions: 85
Receiving Yards: 1412
Average Yards per Reception: 16.6
Longest Reception: 42
Touchdowns: 6
Based on this season's stats so far, we expect Phelps to add another 12 receptions, 201 yards, and 1 touchdown to his already impressive stats. If he is able to pull this off, he will be setting the bar for next seasons wide receivers. The only concerning part of these numbers is the touchdowns. 6 touchdowns is good, and definitely an improvement over last season where Phelps finished with only 3, but it is still a step below a few others in the league. The current league leader in touchdowns for a WR is Stormblessed with 8 touchdowns on the season. Phelps likely won't end the season with more than 7, but I believe all the other stats will show that Phelps has been the best receiver of this season.
Next, we will analyze Phelps' player build and see if we can figure out what exactly has made him a top performer in the league:
(MAX: 70) Strength: 51
(MAX: 90) Agility: 80
(MAX: 25) Arm: 1
(MAX: 90) Intelligence: 55
(MAX: 25) Throwing Accuracy: 1
(MAX: 35) Tackling: 22
(MAX: 90) Speed: 86 6/10
(MAX: 100) Hands: 80
(MAX: 35) Pass Blocking: 22
(MAX: 35) Run Blocking: 22
(MAX: 100) Endurance: 71
(MAX: 25) Kick Power: 1
(MAX: 25) Kick Accuracy: 1
Taking a look at Phelps' build, it's hard to tell what has set Phelps above other receivers in the league. His speed is pretty good at 86, but there are faster receivers out there. His hands are among one of the best in the league at 80, but a difference of a couple points over the competition shouldn't be affecting his completion rate to the point that he would absolutely be on top. One other thing that stands out is Phelps' strength. Many of the WRs in the league have low strength, perhaps this is helping Phelps get better positioning for these catches. The other area to look at is his agility. Clearly this was the biggest improvement over last season, where his agility was around 70 the entire season. It's clear that increasing it to 80 has paid dividends for this receiver, but again, he isn't the highest agility guy out there either. Perhaps it's just the well rounded build that is causing Phelps to lead the league. With what we've seen so far, you can expect Phelps to finish the season holding the most receptions and receiving yards records for the league.
