So it’s come to that time then, has it? It's really my last season here. Wow, what a weird and surreal feeling. It truly doesn’t feel all that long ago where I saw a reddit post, saw the warning not to make at QB and thought to myself “Well I can earn TPE as rookie that I won’t as a recreate, so I may as well make something that needs a lot of it” God I was stupid then. I’m still stupid now. Just have another degree to show off.
Now in the offseason PT way back when, I mentioned that I wouldn’t tag people. Because I wanted to save it here. And boy, you better believe that I have a lot of people to thank.
I have to start from the beginning with thanking @moonlight. Man, I didn’t even know how much of myself I’d be putting into the league, but you did me such a solid by messaging me on reddit only a few minutes after I created and walking me through stuff and putting the ideas of donning the orange and white of the Otters. After dealing with my thinking that total TPE was just every stat added up and telling you that I had 400 odd TPE after the first update, you’re a real saint man. I hope that I’ve been able to at least pass down a bit of the good that you did for me.
Next, I gotta thank everyone who got me into Norfolk. I think I’ve said this to a few people, but I got maybe two forms of scouting leading up to the DSFL draft. Dallas and Norfolk. (SFC Strong, baybay!) and so obviously I didn’t have the highest hopes heading into the draft. Hell, I think it was about 1:45 in the morning when I saw myself on the stream, random render and all. Y’know, I should have been less emotive over being picked at 118. I was content to mope with myself beforehand, watching the stream and thinking how much longer I’d be waiting. Whether I’d even be able to stay up for it, thinking about my chances at being the last pick. Still, I saw myself pop up, and a huge grin crept onto my face. I had a team. It was pretty incredible. It wasn’t until much later that I got into the war room and saw the messages. Thank you @bex. It warmed my heart to read those and thank you to @ScorpXCracker and @juniped for listening to her and picking me up. Late as it was, it still meant a lot to me at the time. Still means a lot to me now to be honest.
Man season 22 really was an elite class. You can call me a boomer all you like, but I had so much fun in my rookie season and there are so many people to thank for that. To my Seawolves, @Lightnoir, @Tesla, @muse316, @Evok, @TheRocheLimit, and probably so many more. That was such a fun season of not really having to worry about being good because we had Skywalker. And really, because of the pandemic hitting then (wow, that’s weird to look back at) you guys were a real social lifeline for me and I can’t stop talking about how appreciative I am of that fact.
On this nostalgia trip, I’m gonna have to really stop myself from gushing about my time in Philadelphia. There’s something so weird about being on a team whilst knowing that you’ll likely never play a snap in the big league. I honestly had so much fun dicking around in Philly. @Hallmonitor_20, @roastfuego, @Ephenssta, @iamslm22, @goodfortunecoffee, @Fordhammer, and @TubbyTim69 you guys really helped me learn a lot and just get so much more into the league than I had any right to.
Winning the Ultimini was one of my proudest moments in the league. I wasn’t home for it, but I remember being up at like two AM trying not to be too loud as I was on a call with Joey and Light. And @J0EB, you were so good to me as a GM, and without you I wouldn’t have enjoyed it nearly as much. Everyone on that Norfolk roster that season just made it such a fun summer. Thanks to you guys, even scouting that wild S25 class was nothing but an enjoyment. I had so much fun GM’ing Norfolk and @IsaStarcrossed, @SchwarzNarr, @TeyonSchavari, @Jimi64, @ConnorM123, @TMosura and @LancedJack, you guys made it the best experience, even when you saw me struggling with my dissertation.
The free agency experience was wild, and I honestly never thought it would happen. I think that after the initial draft, I had kind of resigned myself to just helping out with Philly but being in Norfolk until my eligibility ran out and then dip. So, to get multiple teams interested in me was mind-blowing. And without free agency, I would not have ended in the place where I really feel like I had my biggest impact on the league.
There’s obviously a lot to talk about with Orange County because I was there for so long, and at times it feels bittersweet because we seemed to be on the wrong side of important sim decisions so much, but I still would not have traded it for any other experience. Getting to join the Otters had me jubilant and for that, I really got to thank @"Laser" and @Revolution5. And of course, being in OCO let me meet @speculadora, @Gwdjohnson, @jeffie43, @scorycory @ReverendOReily, @Eldorian, and so many more and you all made those early seasons so much fun. You got me into other leagues, which is something I never thought I’d do. You guys got me really excited about OCO’s future, and you got me excited for when I knew I’d take over.
And of course, that didn’t exactly go as planned.
But I still think I had an incredible time working on OCO. Obviously, we had not hit on drafts as well as we should have, but there was something really incredible about rebuilding the team and building the culture into something new and transformative. We might not have been the best team, but I got to draft @Gragg9, @shrub02, @Dallypole, @Haseo, @bowl0 and so many more steals from right under all your noses. And I can’t wait for when they win it all again, even if I’m not on the team for it. I think I really built something special there and I’m always gonna be proud of that.
I’m just gonna do some general shoutouts now.
@negs, thank you so much for everything you’ve done in Norfolk. I know I’ve told you some of this stuff before, but man, I still think you don’t understand just how much I appreciate seeing you revitalise my team and seeing how you’ve resuscitated it into something far better than it was when I was GM.
To every GM that I’ve had the pleasure of working with during my time here, thanks for making it so fun. In particular, @TheCC, @Pat, @Frostbite and @zaynzk, you guys were really easy to shoot the shit with and our extra conversations outside of GM chat always kept me in high spirits. Darkness, you're my brother in bad sleeping schedules and I'm so fortunate that I got to work with you. I also really just wanna say how moved I was by the reaction to me stepping down as GM. It was a rough time for me, health wise, but man, you all made me feel so wonderful about myself.
@RussDrivesTheBus and @Crodyman, I was real fortunate to be your updater as you guys won it all. Twice. Honestly kinda saved my arse with the s28 class but you guys made the job a breeze and I’m thankful for that.
@124715 it's weird that we were both on Philly at the same time. Definitely got to know each other more after we had moved on. But you've been a great friend to me.
@White Cornerback, @Daybe and @Kotasa. You guys are a bunch of fucking degenerates. You know that, right? But I honestly think you’ve made me laugh the hardest since I joined here.
And of course, finally, thank you @Memento Mori. You’ve been truly such an incredible friend to me all the way back when we were drafted to Philly. I know for a fact that I wouldn’t have survived GM’ing OCO without you. You helped me keep spirits high and to be able to take a completely rebuilding team and give em a winning season in my last as GM meant a lot to me. Hell, the sheer fact that you were able to handle team shit whilst I was down and out with Covid is insane, and I’m so glad we get to stay teammates in the WSBL. Love ya man.
But there is something here that I have to properly make clear.
When I say this will be my last season in the ISFL, I mean this will be my last season in the ISFL.
I’m sorry if that sucks to hear but I feel pretty content with how everything’s gone. I won a ring. I won an MVP. I got to play a position most people only dream of doing with team permission. I got to have a league story that I doubt will be replicated anytime soon. I was able to GM for seven seasons and spend even longer meeting a great deal of incredible people. So I just think I’m gonna enjoy this season for how it plays out, and then head off into the sunset, hopefully with the idea that I’ve made this place at least a little bit better than it was when I joined here.
Let’s make this last season a fun one, shall we?
