"...Jaycee? Jaycee!"
Jaycee woke up from his nap, the shuttle had make a stop, which meant the team had arrived somewhere. The trainer had woken him up, as the night before the flight to New York was a tough one to sleep on as it was a 5 hour flight, nearly 6. Life was different than it was in Kansas City just a year before. More responsibilities, more culture, and more fans (good and bad) depending on the stadium. He quickly got up and saw the Silverbacks stadium to his right outside the window. A good amount of fans with signs were outside, and those fans were hardcore.
"Get ready rooks, New York doesn't mess around." Vet Jamar said to Jaycee and Mason Malone, who was across the aisle from him. The two had made some waves in San Jose as rookies, especially Malone with him being traded for and quickly making a good impression week one. Jaycee paused his music, which was Biking (Solo) by Frank Ocean at the moment and let the crowd sound sink in for a second before resuming the music, skipping to Too Easy by Gunna to hype himself up a bit more before going back to the softer stuff in the locker room to find his zen. He got off of the shuttle and instantly, the overflow of hecklers.
Bust
Who the fuck is this guy (in a NY accent of course)
East Coast Beast Coast
No Hands
But if you know Jaycee, he thrives off of this. High School was all odds against him, so some dudes who think they could run the Mets and think Julius Randle is better than LeBron were nothing to him. He headed to the locker room with headphones on and switched to some Clairo before taking the field 30 minutes after to warmup. Across the field he saw to familiar faces, those being Sakeem Webb and French Fries, each of which were not just in the same draft as Jaycee, but taken before him. The edge gave Jaycee a little spark during the warmups. And just before kickoff, he told McKyle, "look out for me today, something feels different." which led to a response of, "Ayo what?" The first quarter was tough for San Jose, down 0-14 going into the second quarter. Quickly Vermillion got a touchdown to cut the lead and make the Silverback fans stop chanting for a second before they switched up to chanting, "Scoreboard!" before New York got 2 mores scores to create a 7-24 game, the half not ending however until a Thomas Rose field goal narrowed the game to 10-24. Jamar got a nice touchdown run in the third but that was matched by a touchdown from the New York passing game. Jamar got his second touchdown of the game 2 minutes and 36 seconds into the 4th to make the game 1 score but, New York scored again. Final score 38-24 New York.
A tough loss yes, but going into the locker room, Jaycee was ignoring all the noise and was focused on one thing. Triple digits. Jaycee had led the Sabercats in receptions with 7, but was able to get 110 yards also, the most on either side of the football that night. Oh, and one of the players he was noticing before the game, Fries, had just 1 catch for 12 yards. Jaycee's confidence had risen and now, going back onto the shuttle, now playing Again by ssgkobe, had a smirk on his face, a big one too. He in his second career game reached 100+ yards, and now, he can only get better from here. Silverbacks star and infamous taunter Tugg Speedman reached out to Jaycee via social media, giving some tips and overall being more of a mentor than enemy. Jaycee reached the hotel that night and decided to get some rest, earning it after all. The sport of football was a tough way in, but now that he had made it, he had to use that opportunity.
The next morning Jaycee went down to the continental breakfast at the Marriott, getting an everything bagel with cream cheese and bacon before sitting down with Malone, Lackson, and McKyle.
"So, onto Yellowknife, get your best coats it's gonna be chilly by the way." said Malone.
Which led to Lackson saying, "I never freeze."
After a few moments of silence, everyone realized he was referencing Black Panther, and agreed, after all this dude signed a 20 year deal with San Jose just recently (with a lot of mutual options but still).
Jaycee got up, but before leaving, said...
"Well, what are we wraithing for?"
vs Week 3
disclaimer: French Fries is a good player, I respond him a ton and he is doing his thing in NY. Same with Sakeem Webb. That was purely for in-character reasons I have nothing against them
