The opening weeks of S32 are in the books and the Chicago Butchers have definitely lost their magic from last season as terrifying road warriors. Key defensive veteran Damian Blackfyre Jr leaving the team has left a bigger hole on the team than many probably anticipated, but it is slowly being filled up by Tessie Garciaparra who is a new rookie that is trying her best to fill the massive shoes left by the former safety. The empty shoes are also along the offensive line as the Butchers find that once fairly reliable offense also having some issues as the endzone evades them more times than it should through these first few weeks. Even more of a disappointment would be defensive end Jason Garciaparra who, despite having a forced fumble, still has under fifteen tackles and only two tackles for loss. There is no telling how his season will turn out but it is not looking pretty so far as the team expects bigger things from a defensive end that leads the defensive line in terms of TPE which is not a hard bar to surpass. The hopeful Butchers will not see the same level of success that they did last season if this season continues to play out the same way that the beginning of it has gone.
As much as it's nice to have talented teammates, it's a little annoying when they get all the touchdowns, don't you think? Sure, sure, Raphael Delacour is third in the league for receiving yards at the moment -- albeit over a hundred yards behind the league leader; but that's another gripe for another day -- but he has just three touchdowns. Considering he's, on paper at least, the number one receiver for the Yeti, and has a pretty solid rapport with Mattathias Caliban, this is a strangely low return. Even more frustrating when you notice that fellow receiver Asui has nine touchdowns.
You can make the argument of course, that Asui's touchdown count is partly because Delacour draws the tighter coverage in redzone situations... and that's likely to be a major factor, in all honesty... but after finally establishing himself as an elite receiver, to have this disappointing return on scoring plays has the potential to be a major blow to his confidence. It's been a bit of a rough start for Dante King and the Baltimore Hawks, who expected to take the leap into being a competitive team after several rebuilding seasons. With TPE totals that put it in the middle of the pack of the league in terms of both total and average earnings, it seemed a reasonable goal to approach a .500 or even maybe a winning season. Unfortunately, the sim had other plans After a hot 2-0 start with a dominant statement win against Orange County in week one and a close home victory over Sarasota the following week, the Hawks have dropped their last 5 games. While one game against Philadelphia was a blowout, three of those five losses have been incredibly close, last-minute affairs. The Butchers scored a go-ahead touchdown with 47 seconds left to win by 5, the Hawks led the Yeti 30-27 until a touchdown with 1:15 left, and the Fire Salamanders kicked a 57 yard field goal with 1:00 on the clock to break a 35-35 tie. Each of these games were coin flips that unfortunately broke the wrong way, so look for the Hawks to return to the mean when sim luck starts going their way.
Ooooof. How dare you ask me such a thing. Let me preface this by saying I am in no way complaining, because my team was lucky enough to win the ultimini last season and we had some excellent comeback victories to do so, but this season, we have had no such luck. The Dallas Birddogs are currently sitting at 1-3, but while things haven’t been ideal for us so far, I feel we’ve got a great core and could definitely turn things around. The Orange County otters meanwhile are in a similar position, but unfortunately lacking in the consolation of winning a championship in the previous season. We are pretty clearly in the middle of a rebuild, but again, I feel like there are some excellent pieces and OCO will be competing with the best of them in 2-3 seasons time. Richard Leaking, my player, is doing a little better on a personal level - he’s got a pick 6 this season in addition to a forced and recovered fumble. Hopefully he can keep up the good work and get in contention for an award!
185 words Code: 284 words The start of the New Orleans Second Line's season has been rough, to say the least. We're currently at 2-5, with a point differential of -61. We managed to steal a win against New York in Week 6, but overall we're struggling to win games. That could change in this last half of the season, however; our next three games are against teams with a combined record of 5-16, and even though two of those games are on the road, those two teams aren't great at winning on their own turf. We'll really need those wins, however, because the end of our season will be a nightmare. We play at Honolulu in Week 14 and at home against Austin in Week 15. Not only are both of those conference opponents currently at 6-1, but Honolulu is undefeated when playing at home, and Austin is 3-1 on the road. Those will be two tough games, and we need to get several wins under our belt by then if we want any prayer at making the playoffs. Individually, Squidward Tentacles is having a solid sophomore season. He's caught 32 passes for 312 yards (for a 9.8 yard average) and has scored 3 touchdowns. He's got quite a bit of time before he can be a WR1, but so far he's been exactly the player that the Second Line need him to be. Some quick math indicates that at this rate, he'll finish the season with 73 catches for 713 yards and 7 touchdowns. Those numbers could certainly stand to be better, but it would be a marked improvement over his Season 31 performance, and that's really all you can hope for at the end of the day. |
