Ready to grade
1) How has your 2nd season compared to your rookie season?
I am extremely satisfied with my players results so far this year. During my first season in the DSFL I was a rookie, acting as a backup for a very good running back. In 14 games I managed to rush for 489 yards and 3 touchdowns with 104 attempts. Our offence was primarily pass based as well, with maxed out QB Stanzi, maxed out Toast, and in my opinion the best rookie of the draft @LordEscanor. This year in just four games I have rushed for 341 yards with 5 touchdowns in 73 attempts. I've already almost doubled my touchdowns and matched my total yards in a quarter of the games played. This is due to us playing a rookie QB and becoming the starting RB. On the downside, I feel like I am not performing as good as the three other RB's picked ahead of me in the draft, with 100 yards behind the RB in first. There's still a long season to go!
2) Do you prefer initiating contact or running by the tackler?
I absolutely prefer initiating contact and running gut down the middle, however I was given some advice my rookie year in the DSFL by multiple veterans. "Speed is king". I believe I have the most strength cap in a running back by a large margin from the draft, however with a cap at 250 I elected to get my speed up to 90 instead of hitting the gym, with my strength sitting at 70. I currently have the second most average yards gained per run by a starting RB in the DSFL, and I believe with more strength that number will only go up. A much simpler answer to this question is in the name of my player however! John Riggins played like an absolute freak animal in Super Bowl XVII, tanking through D-lines and running over defenders.
3) You became a captain for Dallas this season how have you felt your role change as you get more involved as a leader?
This was the greatest moment career wise for me so far, knowing that the Dallas Birddogs GM's had enough faith in me and my LR presence to trust me to help lead the team. I obviously have some humongous shoes to fill as Escanor led the team to a decisive victory last season securing the cup, as well as hosting the most entertaining, friendly, sometimes a little sus locker room in the entire DSFL. With this new position I found myself initiating conversation more in the LR, as well as hyping up the team for tough games, posting more memes, and even nagging the shit out of people to submit updates (You've become the very thing you sworn to destroy!!!). I really can't thank @ReverendOReily and @Asked Madden enough for the position granted to me, I'm having a blast. The league ain't ready for the Birddogs.
4) How do you feel about the season so far? Is it what you were expecting or were you hoping for more?
Season 32 has been an absolute rollercoaster so far, blowing out teams, getting blown out by teams, things are absolutely going weird for us- however the War Room isn't surprised. After winning the season 31 ultimini it was clear which players were going to be called up and which positions would be lacking. It was a unfortunate we lost our QB1 RB1 and WR1, however the thing that hurt us the most was losing key defensive players. Currently we have major holes on the defensive side of the ball (which many of our games have reflected) and are already looking forward to filling these positions in the next DSFL draft. I think our offense is extremely capable, but limited by a weak O-line and a rookie QB. That being said, there WILL be more wins in the Birddogs future as Pat fills the role I know he will. I am proud of this team and our GM's and I can see us back in the Ultimini much sooner than the league expects.
5) Who is your favorite ninja turtle?
Well first and foremost I have a favorite ninja turtle in the DSFL, his name Leonardo McTurtle, number#69 on the field. He's a hell of a DE for the Tijuana Luchadores and I'd like for him to be on my team some day. In the popular show- its an obvious choice for me- Michelangelo. What's not to love about him?
6) What do you and your teammates do in your downtime for fun?
Well me and some of the fellas usually chip in during the offseason and rent a beach house in cape cod. Sure its a bit chilly, but after enough booze you definitely don't notice anymore. Come to think of it... we mostly play backyard football while we grill and drink up there. I guess some of us have no life, but it gets us away from the training facilities for a bit (and our mean GM's that bully us). After we won the ultimini last year I remember partying with the team all night... we musta hitting every bar in Dallas. The crazy thing is, even being a 260 pound running back I managed to black out. I awoke in the Norfolk Seawolves locker room with no shirt on and drawings all over my face. Stranger things have happened.
7) Does John Riggins have a favorite on the field memory?
My favorite memory on the field was in the Ultimini, the build up waiting to play in the cup was absolutely insane. The locker room was absolutely electric to get on that field and win. The play I most recall is when the birddogs had pretty much secured the win, up by a touchdown in the final minutes. I managed to hit a 49 yard rushing TD to ice the game, and bring home the cup. I don't think I'll ever forget that.
8) Does Riggins have a favorite pre game meal, or any game day traditions?
I wont lie, I am a serial calorie counter. My game day diet consists of 290 grams of protein, 260 grams of carbs, I usually try and get a good amount of protein in the morning eating chicken and eggs. 1 hour prior to the game I eat half of my daily intake of carbs in the form of brown rice. This usually prevents cramping and keeps me energized for the game. After the game I like to kick back with a beer and eat the other half of the carbs, and finish up with the protein with a few shakes through the afternoon. For my gameday tradition, it might be a bit weird but I like to watch 30 minutes of running back highlights on youtube and listen to Love Story by Taylor Swift.
9) Did Riggins do anything special to celebrate his huge performance in the ultimini last season?
Me and the team were pretty pumped to win the cup season, after the game the offense rented a party bus and traveled around the east coast. We may have partied a little bit too hard as our QB stanzi disappeared of the face of the earth. We managed to drink in many many states... I dont quite remember half the night- but I do know we celebrated our asses off. The crazy thing is, even being a 260 pound running back I managed to black out. I awoke in the Norfolk Seawolves locker room with no shirt on and drawings all over my face. Stranger things have happened.
10) As you might know, the Birddogs have been incredibly lucky when it comes to drafting players at the running back position both on the field and off the field. One former GM and multiple war room members (including you now!) all played RB for the birddogs on the field - how does it feel to know you’re a continuation of that slam dunk RB drafting tradition? Love you big rig <3
I am absolutely honored to be the running back for the Dallas Birddogs, I know as a first round draft pick I had high expectations so I am just pumped to be doing my best for the team- both on the field and in the locker room. When invited to the war room it really opened my eyes to the high ceiling I could have to be involved with this great team, and the potential I had to be working with these great teammates. To have my name etched into the tiles for our championship season feels great too, even as a backup running back. I am glad Rev thinks I have turned out to be a good draft pick, it truly means alot, and I hope I can continue performing well for both our great GM's and my incredible teammates.
11) What surprised you most about the differences between the DSFL and ISFL?
I was absolutely stoked to be drafted by the outlaws, and I am excited to be called up. The locker room is great and I am surrounded by teammates who work hard and are inviting and friendly (albeit strangely addicted to college football and soccer). However, I am going to miss my birddogs very very much. I don't think I can answer this question, as I have yet to step field in the ISFL arena- however when the time comes, I will be sure to let the people know.
