It seems to me that the league doesn't have any draft media as of now. Let's fix that. Here is my personal take on the upcoming Season 33 ISFL draft.
Pick #1 - Orange County Otters
Kahn Cussion, Linebacker,
I would say this person is the best player in the draft and an obvious choice at #1. With no send-down linebackers and being in hardcore rebuild mode at this point, they need to start looking for core members of the offense and the defense, and picking up Cussion here is a great start. With the highest TPE in the S33 Class, Cussion can still stay down for a season, but may be able to get sent up at a moment’s notice.
Pick #2 - Chicago Butchers
Leonardo McTurtle, Defensive End,
Another probable no brainer choice for Chicago. Getting a high earning, young defensive end to maybe send down for a season or two and send up while their current DEs are tearing it up seems to me like a good plan down the road. With being the second highest TPE, this team has a couple of options with him, as they can send him up now to fill in for a low earner, or again, keep him down and send him up when the time is right. McTurtle will be black and red.
Pick #3 - Yellowknife Wraiths
The Stig, Running Back,
With a low earner with the starting job and no send downs, the Wraiths have a gaping hole that they need to fill at running back for the upcoming season. Therefore, they select The Stig with the third overall pick to either simmer in the DSFL and wreak havoc, or become a compliment or the starter to the current Wraiths running back. Once again, a no brainer choice for the Wraiths, and someone they may utilize very heavily in the coming seasons.
Pick #4 - Orange County Otters
Daron Arnold, Linebacker,
Linebackers for the win. While Cussion was a no brainer pick for the Otters at number 1, Arnold presents to me as someone to replace the IAs that are currently in the ISFL. Whether he stays down with Cussion or not, nonetheless, Arnold is still an outstanding prospect that has the potential to do great things once he gets sent up.
Pick #5 - New Orleans Second Line
Dax Dangerfield, Cornerback,
With one corner sent up and one corner still brewing in the minors, Dangerfield seems like the pick for me as a person who will see some action down the stretch. However, sending him up now does seem like a viable option as he could possibly be a decent CB3 for a season or two, and begin to take the reigns as he continues to develop. Not necessarily a no-brainer pick, but still a solid pick that may help them out very soon.
Pick #6 - Philadelphia Liberty
Raphael McTurtle, Defensive Tackle,
Being the best Defensive Tackle in the draft, McTurtle is going to enjoy the luxury of being picked up 6th overall by the Liberty. This may be a head scratcher to some people, but the thing is the Liberty does not have a send down while the current DT does his job in the ISFL, ergo this seems to me like McTurtle falling into their laps and becoming a role player down the road. They could send him up right away, but I don’t that that will be necessary.
Pick #7 - San Jose Sabercats
Marvin Toledo, Wide Receiver,
With only two active wide receivers on the team and no send downs, this seems like the right pick for me for the Sabercats. Being the highest TPE WR in the class, he is arguably the best one to pick, and therefore San Jose picks him up at number 7. There is a solid chance that he could be sent up to be a WR3, but with San Jose having 3 running backs, they may leave him down for a while and let the RBs do their job. Still, though, Toledo may be a good person to leave down for a season to continue to develop and end up a solid player for the Sabercats.
Pick #8 - Berlin Fire Salamanders
Nick Flint, Linebacker,
Berlin currently has no send down linebackers, and while they do have two very good linebackers up already, Flint strikes me in this instance as a person to stay down for a while and develop, and strike in the ISFL when the current Berlin linebackers peak or begin to regress. With that, they may also send him up in order to fill in the LB3 slot. They have several options with Flint, and they pick him at number 8 in order to do such.
Pick #9 - Sarasota Sailfish
King Zeus, Cornerback,
With an excess of CBs, they have several options for Zeus, the Sarasota selection at number 9. Sending him up as a cornerback does not seem like the viable option in my eyes as they, again, have 3 CBs already doing their job. This means that he could be sent down for a while and come up at the right time. Or, they could send him up as a Safety and become the next man up for the Sarasota aging safety deep in regression. If Zeus wants to be flexible, then this may be a solid pick for the Sailfish.
Pick #10 - Austin Copperheads
Greg Strongjaw, Defensive End,
With only one player, both on the team and as a send down, at DE, the obvious pick is to snag Strongjaw here with the 10th pick. Like many of the players before, Strongjaw could be an immediate player to be sent up, or a person that Austin may leave down for while to develop before letting him have an impact on the team.
Pick #11 - Orange County Otters
Bud R. Fingers, Wide Reciever,
The Otters use their third of four first round picks to pick up the next best option at WR, Bud R. Fingers. With wide receivers retiring, wide receivers become an issue for the Otters in their quest to be the best again, and therefore they need to seek help in the draft. This strikes me as an obvious pick, as they may have had their eyes on Toledo earlier, but have to settle for a still solid prospect in Fingers.
Pick #12 - Arizona Outlaws
Fairy de Pengu, Cornerback,
Picking a cornerback here at number 12 instead of a more dire position, such as DE, seems like an odd choice to make. That being said though, Season 33 defensive end's are fairly deep, and they may be able to snag one later on. Fairy de Pengu still presents as a viable pick, as someone who may be able to stay down for a little bit in order to develop and be sent up at the right time at whatever time.
Pick #13 - Orange County Otters
Molki Koivu, Tight End,
Fact: rebuilding teams need tight ends, says I. Molki Koivu is the best tight end in the draft and may or may not be sent up immediately depending on various factors I don’t know. Koivu has the potential to be an outstanding tight end in the ISFL, but the Otters, picking Koivu up with their fourth and final pick, have many options here.
Pick #14 - New York Silverbacks
D’Nickashaw Mangoldson, Offensive Line,
The Ultimus winning team has no terribly glaring holes, and therefore they go safe here and pick up D’Nickashaw Mangoldson with the 14th pick. Magnoldson seems to be the best offensive lineman in this class, and it seems to me that the Silverbacks may not regret this not too terribly sexy, but probably nessesseary pick down the line.
