After a brief conversation in the Detroit PBE server of all places, I decided to update my top ten peak TPE list just to see where it sat. As I was going through, I decided that I didn't just want to see where the top ten users of all time sat, I wanted to see how many in total had eclipsed the 1500 mark. It turns out that there are thirty-six individuals who have accomplished that feat to date.
This might sound like an easy question to answer as you could theoretically go to the ISFL player tracker and pull the information. Unfortunately, most of the peak TPE earners get one last boost of TPE at the end of their last season before regression that never actually makes it on to the tracker. The highest earned TPE according to the tracker is 1566, however that is nearly 30 TPE below the actual record of 1594. The only way to accurately determine peak TPE is to go to each individual update page and check the pre-regression total. I've done this for every user that appears on the tracker with at least 1400 TPE, both in the All Players tab and the Retired Players tab. If anyone notices that I've missed a player, please let me know! It is certainly possible that someone dropped a 100+ TPE update immediately prior to regression that I would have missed.
From there I decided to gather more info, the players' season, most recent position, whether they are still playing for a team (regardless of whether they've posted a retirement or not, if they are on a team they count as active for the purposes of this article), and which team they most recently played for. Once I had all of this information, I did what anyone would do. I made some fun charts.
Interestingly enough, the highest earning position seems to be Linebacker with twenty-two percent of the players on this list playing that position most recently. That is followed closely by Running Back then Corner and Safety. Interestingly, there were only four Quarterbacks on this list. It likely has to do with the fact that there are simply fewer of them in the league than the other positions despite them being notoriously TPE-needy.
Another interesting bit of info I noticed was the number of players per season that show up. S22 being the insane size that it was still only had 8 members on the list. This is partially due to the fact that there was less TPE available to these older players. Beginning in S25, the league season was extended with the addition of two new teams which likely explains the large number of players from then on that made the list as each successive class had an additional year of extra predictions.
It's no surprise that the players on this list are starting to fall away; nearly a quarter are already retired with several more likely hanging up their cleats soon. The oldest player on this list, Douglas Quaid, is still going strong for the Wraiths. There's something about those folks in the far north, they seem to have endurance to spare. It will be interesting to see how many of those on this list are gone by next season, and how many new players we'll add. However we don't want to get ahead of ourselves.
Lastly, I sorted these players by their most recent team. It's probably one of the most interesting graphs of the four. All but two teams make an appearance, and the ones that seem to have some of the most players on this list have been strong, playoff caliber teams over the last several seasons. You can really see which teams benefitted from and took advantage of strong classes to build the strongest core of players they could. It worked for several, asmany of these teams have won the Ultimus recently. Notable exceptions include Arizona and Austin; both of which are regular powerhouses, but have been unable to complete their seasons. Both teams have several actives left on this list, it is certainly possible that their veteran presence could push them over the edge before retiring.
Looking into the future, the S27 class does not have any user currently on pace to break into this list. Bean Beanman at 1285 with an average of 190 TPE per season available does not quite make it to 1500. It is certainly possible, but it will be difficult. Marlon Brando is close enough to make it possible as well, however both of these players have an uphill battle to even crack the bottom of the list.
S28, however, has both Dexter Zaylren and Busch Goose on pace to create their own exclusive club by hitting 1600 TPE. I admit, this was my goal throughout the latter half of my pre-regression career. I've been kicking myself since my last season before regression for missing a few predictions and not finding one more recruit! Oh well, there's always next time. I hope we do see one or both of these users hit 1600 so that the league can keep pushing boundaries and getting better every season.
In addition to the class leaders, Stumpy Jones, Cade Williams and Luke Quick are all over 1200 which will allow them to push their way toward the top of this list fairly easily. Bender Rodriguez, Saleem Spence, Makoa Mahi'ai, Glenn Smart, Xavier Walls, Manhattan Project, Raeni Clarke, Bayley Cowabunga, and Juno Hu all have a shot at cracking into the list as well, if they can max earn over the next two seasons. We could potentially have a huge number of additions to the list two seasons from now. I'm looking forward to seeing how many of these players can make it into the club.
Thank you to @enigmatic, @Kyamprac, @mithrandir, @Mooty99, and @Number 82 for some of the sigs in this rotator.
