Week 1: Victory vs the London Royals 12-10
It was a game of insane offensive struggles on both the Coyotes and London sides. The two quarterbacks combined for one touchdown and 3 interceptions with Trevor having only one interception and no touchdown. Despite this, I'd argue that Trevor made plays when he could and played better then the stats suggest. Despite the early pick and offensive struggles, he didn't let it get to him and just managed the game in any way he could. The play calling could be called into question however, as the coaches called 44 pass plays with a rookie quarterback and a somewhat weak offensive line.
Zane Cold had the Yotes lone touchdown and made a lot of good plays on the ground with 80 yards on 20 attempts. But a pair of missed field goals stopped a lot of offensive momentum. Trevor getting sacked a total of three times certainly did not help. He completed exactly half of his 44 passes for a even completion percentage of 50%. The lone passing touchdown was thrown by the London QB with only seconds left in the game, but the Yotes recovered the onside kick to hang on for the victory. One of the biggest game changing plays was pressure that forced the London QB into the end zone where he was sacked by Greg Strongjaw for the safety.
This would give momentum back to the Coyotes, and they would ride that momentum to the win. Yes, 5-3 was the score at one point in this game. If it stayed at that, it probably would be some kind of DSFL scoragami. The Defense showed up big time during the game, holding the London Running backs to only 67 yards total. If you like offense, this was an extremely frustrating game to watch until maybe the fourth quarter, and even then it might have been hard to watch. If you like defense however, you will love watching both defenses shut down both offensive attacks.
The Coyotes Kicker Kit Houston had an interesting day, missing two Field goals and only making one, making life more difficult for the Yotes defense. Although I will give him props for at least having some deep punts, with three of them inside the 20. Pinning them deep was part of the reason why thier offense could not get any real momentum. So, KCC faithful probably don't need to be that frustrated at him, just a bit frustrated. But, as Trevor Lorenzen said after the game, it was a game and a win and overall that is enough. The team will be heading back to Kansas City to face the Portland Pythons next week as two rookie Quarterbacks face off in Trevor Lorenzen and Bonnie McCoy. Portland didn't win a game in preseason and lost in week one, so they will be extra hungry for a W.
This will be Trevor's first regular season game in Kansas City, so we will see how he preforms in front of the KC faithful when the games truly matter.
