Host: “you are listening to 1160 the score Chicago's radio home for Butchers football and Kingpins baseball. Let’s switch off from kingpins chatter and talk some Butchers with a Butcher at one twenty on this Thursday afternoon. Michael Carimi, 2nd year offensive lineman joins us on the Home Run Inn Pizza hotline. Home Run inn chicago’s #1 pizza since Nineteen forty seven.
Co-host: And that is exactly what we are gonna do. Aand he is sitting right here next to us thanks for coming to the studio!
Carimi: Hey thanks guys for having me on. Does this mic go any higher?
Host: haha sadly no even the boom mics have certain limits when talking to mountains of human
Carimi: Hey you watch it, I am not a mountain, I am just a really big hill har har har har
Host, co-host: *laughing*
Host: Alright sorry, they have a limit when talking to a big HILL of human. That better?
*carimi nods*
Host: Well now that it is settled we can get on to business. You are coming into your second season at Tackle here in Chicago. What is some stuff individually you have learned in year 1 here vs when you were down in Portland in the ISFL’s minors system?
Carimi: I think what I learned more than anything is how things move quicker up here. The players are faster. I knew that leap was gonna happen college to pro but to be honest I don't think I properly expected the difference between minors here and so. Yeah that’s a big one. I think another one is just another thing with the players; they are so much stronger too. Nothing I haven’t discovered at this point I can not handle or can not work my way too but.. Yeah players are bigger and faster and honestly the plays are too. Takes you a few games to get used too if I am entirely honest but after that I was plain sailing and hopefully I’ll have a good career here.
Host: So what then did you do to count the extra speed and strength up here?
Carimi: just got stronger, working a lot with coach Laz and the other offensive lineman to strengthen and work on foot and hand movement. My amatuer wrestling background from high school and college really helps out with the hand and foot movement stuff, makes it come more naturally. That is honestly a piece of advice I would give. If you kids out there listening want to in the future or currently play offensive or defensive to be honest, go wrestle. I do NOT mean go pretend to be a professional wrestler in the backyard, I mean go to your school and wrestle amature style. Really helps the hands and feet.
Co-Host: So is that something you attribute some of your success to?
Carimi: Yes, honestly it absolutely is. I loved my time in wrestling and the things you do with the hands and feet position translate really well to the offensive line. Because that is half the battle, the technique is half of it and the strength is the other… well I stand corrected. More like one third technique, one third strength and one third mental toughness.. Stamina.. Whatever you wanna call it. Gotta be able to have the focus to do it every play and occasionally get beat and still go on the next play like nothing happened.
Host: So Switching away from the line, first time we have talked how are you adjusting here in Chicago as a Butcher.
Carimi: I am doing well I think. On field is going good, off field going good but we'll see going forward. We wanna be better than we were last season and that is our goal. The ultimate goal of course is to win a championship but we wanna get better each week. We hope as of now we are doing that and we get benchmark tests for how that is going once a week on Sundays. So plenty of tests to study or in our case practice for.
Host: You are listening to 1160am the score here in Chicago and we are talking to Michael Carimi, Chicago Butchers offensive lineman.
Co-host: So, let’s head to some questions about the season. If you are good with that.
Carimi: Sounds great, don’t delay let’s go do it.
Co-host: So last season 5-11 was rather disappointing, a lot of people thought you guys were gonna be better than you were. Now this season they have pretty much parked those expectations near the bottom. Where do you guys see yourselves?
Carimi: Like I said before, the goal is to get better every week and ultimately win a championship. That is the goal at the end of the day and everyone’s goal quite frankly. But in reality the expectation is for playoffs. I think anything less than that would be another unfortunate disappointment. We got better in the offseason not just by aging a little more but making moves etc. I think we are gonna be a really good team this season and I am hoping I can help our interior get a good push upfront and give us a better run game.
Host: So is that something you think will be a key to your success this season?
Carimi: Yeah I do, I think if you look at last season we didn’t run that well. Certainly the bigger issue was the turnovers from the passing attack but that ties back to the run. Us big boys upfront need to not just protect for the QB better but lead block for the run better. I worked on stuff in the offseason to pull better as a guard and just improve and develop and I know a lot of the guys did the same. We are just a better team and hopefully we can get those yards per carry up and keep secondaries isolated and help out Oles behind us with that as well.
Co-host: Who do you think is the big impact player on the team this year?
Carimi: Well any football team the Quarterback is the most important player on the field. Just look at the way penalties and such are written nowadays and you can see the exact proof of that. But I do think we all are impact players. Up front we can block better, we can give more time in the pocket and more time for the RB’s to run patiently and look for the open hole. Wideouts and TE can run better routes, catch more passes, get us yardage etc etc. I’m not really of the opinion we have one impact player. We all have a big impact on the game, least how I define it. If you wanna define it a different way then Oles is the most important. But I don’t think that and saying game impact are the same.
Host: Alright we have to go to break. Thank you Mr. Carimi for your time. This is Chicago’s sports radio AM 1160 the score…….
Producer: CLEAR
Host: Hey thanks again for coming on shorter notice Michael. Really appreciate it. Usually we’d have done this a week ago but a bunch of crazy stuff happened with the baseball team and then all kinds of other stuff anyway. Thanks again, we appreciate it.
Carimi: Yeah no problem man, if you want me on after games or anything I can do that too it’s all good.
Host: Might take you up on that, that was pretty good. Nice job today man.
Carimi: Thank you guys I’ll see y’all later.
Co-host: take care!
Host: welcome back to 1160 the score on this……

Trevor: I just wanted to say congratulations on a great job in your radio interview and in fact you have now more media to do!
Carimi: What? What do you mean by more media?
Trevor: Well that radio station says they wanna bring you in once a month to do that show during the season to talk about the team and how it’s going. Also the team has decided to make you available after the game for the press when you weren’t before. Now you prolly won’t get a ton of traffic at first anyway but make sure you are ready for question.
Carimi: The radio show I will do I liked those guys. But after i’ve kicked ass for 3 hours you want me to be ready to answer questions? Whatever I guess I can but that’ll be kinda awkward.
Trevor: Look man you’ll do fine, also remember the Butchers shop spot is tomorrow.
Carimi: mhmm got that in the sched after the reschedule but thank you for the reminder. Anything else?
Trevor: Nope, just the media stuff. Take care big man
Carimi: you too.
