S21 as a rookie was a wild time.
I’m with valor and jiggly on this on that it was very unfun to read this one, having been a part of it. However, it was a really well written and well researched article and you should be proud of it! Many in the league now have no idea what happened back then.
Just a small add on - Bayley and Muford were high up on our list of finalist GMs as HO, but part of the reason we didn’t choose them was because Muford had just been drafted in the first round by Colorado, meaning the Butchers would have to give up a *lot* to trade for him. That, to us, did not seem to be in the franchises best interest. After what ended up being a very messy negotiation (in which the rest of HO - I refused for obvious reasons - had to be called in to arbitrate a deal and Jiggly got hit with a tampering punishment), Chicago ended up giving up what would become the #1 pick in the S23 draft - future Yeti GM Sylphreni. I think the Butchers would say this worked out fine for them though - Bayley and Muford did a great job setting the team up for success.
Not sure what's more surprising. A mention to the Werewolf server? The fact that this whole shitshow happened two years ago? The fact that Toasty acted out of spite against SJJ? Whatever the case is, pardon my french, this was the most fucked up period in the history of the league.

Outside of SJJ being what experts call, "extremely fucked up", I can easily think of at least four times the league had more problems (Er multis, DD's leaks, Bex's deleted messages, Kya's firing). TBH I'm sure I'm forgetting some others too. That being said, this whole mess was pretty high up on this list (02-13-2022, 11:00 AM)infinitempg Wrote:This is events of one IRL year or so. ER's shit was a few months. DD's leaks, Bex's messages, and Kya's firing died down quickly enough. the whole Chicago shitshow was a daily occurence, for around a whole year. With so many events transipring, every time you think this is over. And that, in my eyes, is the #1. Er's BS was special as it was the first major drama story. I don't even remember the DD and Bex situations precisely. And Kya's firing was just another case of HO getting under scrutiny from the community.(02-13-2022, 10:53 AM)Air Crou Wrote: Not sure what's more surprising. A mention to the Werewolf server? This was an amazing article. Bayley certainly was the saviour of this franchise. The difference between Austin and Chicago was stark, trying to win it all straight away vs building from the ground up. @AdamS does not get enough credit for his amazing foresight and ability to forster a thriving LR culture and build a team people want to be at.
Having been a part of the entire second half of this ordeal, this definitely brought back some memories. Although I regret the way a lot of what happened actually went down, I was glad that things ended up working out for the Butchers. Even though I was shipped back to Orange County at the next trade deadline (because frankly it was the right thing to do) I would have happily remained in Chicago to help in any way that I could. I was originally brought in to be a veteran leadership presence for the LR, and I tried to execute that job to the best of my ability.
That all being said, this is an incredibly accurate portrayal of what happened. Well written even though it is making some of us old guys go over our life decisions. lol |
