Tier 1 Prompt 1
So we have all heard of building through the draft and allowing your rookies to play. The Orange county Otters went into the S33 draft with the worst record in the league securing their number 1 overall pick. But not only did they secure that 1st overall pick they had also traded into the draft to have 3 first round picks. They then used one of the later first rounders to trade up and make 3 picks in the top 6 overall. This turned out to be key as all 3 of these players ended up joining the team as true rookies this season. Now we can also note that this is major shout out to the scouting department. It isn’t every day you can land 3 picks inside the top 6 overall, but it is even more important to nail those picks with people that help the team and won’t go awol or have an Antoni Brown mid game departure. It appears through this season that the scouts did their part and management nailed these picks. The Turtle Bus had officially arrived in Orange county. These new rookies combined with the rest of the young and growing core in Orange county most experts had them finishing near the bottom of the league again. On paper and looking at last season it is easy to see why they would think that as well. Dinozzo, who will be now known as goat tank JR, their starting running back eclipsed the all-time rush attempts record. This combined with all the other rookies made it easy to believe this team would be very one dimensional and live and die on the running game. However, when it came to this season the coaches had some other plans. Implementing a new game plan and bringing a balanced attack on the offensive side of the ball gave some life to this Otter team and allowed the field to open up for Goat Tank Jr to do some work on the ground. This combined with some stellar play by the defense which featured some MVP caliber performances this season the otters never really felt like they were out of the game. Richard Leaking deserves some recognition for this play this season he accumulated: 90 tackles, 2 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery, 5 interceptions, 24 pass deflections, 3 defensive tds. If that isn’t worth a Defensive player of the year nomination I am not sure what does. Looking at some performances like this it is no wonder that the Otters were able to find themselves 9-7 record which was good enough for second in the ASFC. The season started as most would expected though losing the first 3 games of the year it looks as though the Otters would be in for another long season. But momentum is a beautiful thing and they rallied for wins in the next 3 games to bring themselves back to 500 record. The otters then went on to lose the next 3 before rallying back to win 6 in a row before dropping their final game of the regular season by 1 score to Arizona. To put it plainly this season has been a very up and down one for the otters. The found ways to win games they probably shouldn’t have but also managed to lose some close ones. Either way this season has only left room for the Otters to want more! Making their young team a playoff bound one was the first step in these young careers for the otters and here is hoping that it is a sign of what is to come in Orange County. Though they are not favored to win it this year they are poised to pull off a potential upset and it’s the playoffs. After all it is a one game winner take all series so there is always a chance and “any given sim day” you may just find yourself with a championship ring.
