So, after the end of S33 i wanted to take a closer look at the S32 ISFL draft class (coincidentally thats my draft class which is obviously why im paying special attention to it)!
At first i will take a closer look at the first round of this draft class and then look at some steals of this draft.
Please remember that this is all done in hindsight and in no way is meant to offend or blame anyone for draft choices, tpe earnings or anything.
1. Lenard Graf - TE, Baltimore Hawks
Even then this pick seemed like a no brainer pick, and i'd say it definitely still holds up to the first overall draft choice.
He entered the draft about 30 TPE down from the get go of his DSFL career if i recall correctly, and has maintained approximately that difference to the top TPE leader of the S32 class. Hes also the GM of the Bondi Beach Buccaneers which definitely shows hes still really invested into this league and projects to be so in the future aswell.
Grade: A+
2. Pasta the Turtle - Safety, Baltimore Hawks
If i recall correctly, Pasta was the TPE leader at the time of draft and Safety was and still is quite a big position of need in the ISFL. I think most of the mock drafts had Pasta the Turtle as the 1oa pick, so this was kind of an obvious draft choice aswell.
Pasta is still top4 in TPE of this class, falling behind very slightly to the top, however thats not really a big deal at all.
Honestly given that the Hawks won the Ultimini already 1 season after a rebuild speaks to the quality of their drafting so far
Grade: A
3. Doc Fireball - DE, NOLA
This is the first one that doesnt seem to have worked out that well. Doc Fireball was one of the top TPE earners coming out of the DSFL, however he seems to have gone Inactive, and hasnt posted anything for over a month. Of course i dont know the situation and whether he plans on coming back to the league or what whether its just a temporary break from the league, the fact remains that doc fireball is already approx 200 TPE behind the top of this class which points to alot of missed TPE even before the inactivity.
Grade: D
4. Deshawn Penne TE - SJS
The second noodle themed player taken 4th overall already, i gotta admit that i have to give the edge to pasta the turtle here on the name. Despite the disadvantage from the name itself, Deshawn Penne has been a top earner in his class and keeps up with the top. HOWEVER i must say that i do not really like the choice of SJS to draft a Tight end here, due to other more important holes in their roster, while everyone likes a good Tight End, they are not the most important part of a Roster.
Grade: B+
5. Live Laughlove - QB - NYS
Im not entirely sure what to think about this draft choice because im not aware of any impending position switches of course. The fact remains that NYS has a very fresh S31 quarterback so the need for a S32 QB obviously isnt there. However Live Laughlove is currently the #2 TPE player of this class, only trailing the leader by 3 measly TPE. Im assuming theres a position switch coming soon for Live Laughlove (or a trade) but as previously stated, no freaking idea, which is why ill knock of some points of the grade.
Grade: B
6. Escanor Sama - WR - Philadelphia
A decent, a solid draft choice for Philadelphia here, however I'd argue that TPE wise he was not the best choice available for that position. Escanor Sama is currently trailing about 70 TPE of the top of this class, and 60 TPE behind the highest WR of the class.
However Escanor Sama had a pretty insane Rookie season, earning a nomination for ORotY with almost 1300 yards total. WR was definitely a big position of need for Philadelphia, which is why im still giving them a pretty good grade here.
Grade: A
7. Zephyr GreyWolf - LB - YKW
Getting the TPE leader of the class in at one of the most important positions on Defense at 7th overall seems like quite a steal here. However im not quite yet willing to give him the steal of the draft here, since theres another one coming. However its hard to argue for this draft choice to not get the best possible grade, therefore
Grade: A+
8. Modern Nazgul - CB - HON
That ones an interesting choice, while Modern Nazgul is trailing about 90 TPE off the top, he was also the best available CB in the draft back then (given that kalam mekhar was a GM pick). Honolulu building a new CB duo the season before and the season 32 draft seems to make some sense, despite them performing below expectations for season 33. However I'd rate this draft choice still pretty solid, due to the fact that it makes sense to cultivate a new CB2 while ur older CB is still in a condition to play.
Grade: A-
9. De'Aaron Harper II - CB - NOLA
This ones a little bit similar to the Modern Nazgul situation, him being the best available CB prospect and all, but with more extremes, NOLA is in bigger need of a CB than HON. Harper II is already the starting CB2 for NOLA, however he is also lower TPE than Modern Nazgul, trailing the top TPE in this class by about 130 TPE, showing some major holes in his earning (however after quickly checking around it seems like he may just not be claming some of his tpe recently? hard to tell without spending too much time, but i might be too harsh on his TPE).
Grade: B+
10. Rocky Rhoads - RB - Sarasota
With other RB's available that went on to earn alot better TPE (and people willing to position switch to RB), this seems to be somewhat of a miss of a draft pick. Rocky Rhoads has gaps in his earning, and his bank account being negative might also prove to be a problem for his TPE earning, trailing the TPE leader by about 100 TPE so far.
I also dont quite understand why Sarasota chose to draft a RB here at all, given they have a top earning S29 RB.
Grade: C-
11. Lalu Muhammad Zohri - RB - Chicago
One of the better picks of this draft, Zohri remains close to the top of the TPE leaderboard of this class, trailing the lead by only about 30. Being the highest TPE RB of this class, chicago secures a strong replacement for their soon to be regressing S27 running back. Honestly not that much to say on this pick other than the grade
Grade: A
12. Tobias Worthington III - QB - Austin
This is another one of those i have no freaking idea situations. So austin already has 2 Quarterbacks on their Roster where I already have no idea what theyre doing with them, so IDK why they draft a third one. Worthington seemed to be a rather good earner, however he seems to have gone into inactivity. Trailing about 130 TPE of the top right now, im not entirely sure that is exclusively due to his recent inactivity or weaker TPE earning beforehand. Also i obviously have no idea about positon switches and Austin planned to be the first team to run triple qb but i dont know.
Grade: D
13. Spicy Ron - LB - Austin
The best linebacker that was available at that point in the draft. However, while not inactive Spicy Ron has some holes in his earning, trailing TPE lead by about 140 TPE. However Austin really needed fresh Linebackers, and not top earning isnt so bad as long as the activity seemingly is still there, which seems to be there with Spicy R.
Grade: A-
14. Bernd D. Brot - WR - YKW
Well, this is me so i might be biased on this, Before the draft willing to switch to DE/WR/RB, and leading into the draft leading in TPE i thought it was kinda weird to fall to 14oa but thats just how it do be (i mean i didnt even close to max earn my last player and retired early so understandable i guess)
top3 in TPE on this class, WR having been a huge need for YWK this draft choice seems to have worked out quite well for both sides at 14OA here
Grade: A+
To cap it off id like to give some special mentions to some of the steals of this draft from the later rounds:
At 23 overall we have John Riggins, RB, drafted by Arizona, being first create and earning quite solidly he made for a pretty nice late second round pick so far
At 37 overall theres Herc Kirkby - TE, once again found by Arizona, being a mid R3 pick of this draft hes earning really solidly so far.
Arizona kinda drafts like the raiders tbh.
And as much as it pains me to say:
At 27 overall, theres Theo AwardsSystemIsBad, OL, Baltimore who devioulsy told everyone that he wasnt gonna earn much, only to come back and earn very well that dirty dirty liar.
Once again id like to say, I dont judge anyone for not max earning or anything, but its just very easy to build a ranking system upon TPE, which is why i did that. All those grades obviously dont include Locker Room presences and general team merryment. So dont feel unfairly judged, because I pretty much only judged one factor.
At first i will take a closer look at the first round of this draft class and then look at some steals of this draft.
