A highly athletic, agile linebacker with a good eye and well-honed defensive skillset, Norfolk's Carissa van Campen hopes to amaze and impress ISFL scouts ahead of the nearing S35 draft.
Here is everything you need to know about the University of Maryland, College Park graduate:
Vitals:
Height: 6-2
Weight: 230 lbs
Player Archetype: Coverage LB
Strengths:
van Campen separates herself from the deep defensive pool in the S35 draft with her stability and flexibility. She balances explosive bursts of speed with an incredible stamina, able to best and tackle the fastest offense. She treats every drill and training like a real game scenario, and always brings a serious mindset to the field.
She pushes herself to her limit and beyond, and it shows. 230 pounds of muscle, van Campen throws herself at any offensive opposition who are unlucky enough to find themselves in her way. Her tackles are only improving as time goes on, and what was an effective if untidy form in her college years has been honed into a textbook and hightlight-worthy action. She brings a lot of energy and raw power to the field, that translates into plenty of opportunities of attack,
In the run game, van Campen keeps vision of the field while zeroing in on her target. She taps into boundless power to cut off offensive opposition, and can turn on a dime to negate any opportunities to get through her.
Weaknesses:
A rough start to the season is easy to see in the TPE tracker - van Campen can be found around the middle of the pack at 123 TPE processed. She missed a few opportunities to earn at the start of the season, but is pulling all the stops out now as Norfolk is hopeful for a strong post-season showing.
While she may lack in total points, van Campen's raw talent shines through. She was drafted at 8OA to the Seawolves, and she's worked hard for them on the field. She's tied with the 10th most tackles at 69, very nice, and boasts 1 sack, 2 passes deflected, and 5 tackles for a loss. She hopes to break into the top 10 tackles group for the season, and has allocated her points to align with that goal.
Projection:
van Campen is a powerful and reliable linebacker with big dreams despite her rocky earning record that is straigtening itself out. She's familiar with sim leagues and is eager to sink her teeth into the ISFL. Any team needling a solid LB can call on her, and she will answer.
Projection: before the 3rd round
