Hey guys and gals and everything in between WildfireMicro here with an interview with a brand new user who you should really pay attention to, @XaveValor ! Talking to him was an absolute treat, and I hope that a lot of GMs will have thier eyes on him in the upcoming DSFL draft. But without any further ado let's begin!
Me: So, who are you and what is your background in sports and life?
Xave: Real name is Tim, come from a suburb of Chicago but currently live in Sioux Falls, SD. Never played football but played volleyball at a national level in high school. Didn't really pick up on football until I went to college and married into a Minnesota Vikings family. I got hooked quickly after that and now wear a Vikings jersey nearly everyday.
Work at a large bank researching customer complaints which is about as fun as it sounds. Have 2 toddler daughters and love being a dad.
Me: Alright that is cool. My stepmom's side of the family are kind of Packers fans, my dad is a Miami Dolphins fan, and I am a Bengals fan. Do you follow any college teams?
Xave: Your family is all over! I bet that's pretty fun when they play each other.
I'm not a huge college football guy. My dad didn't follow it except for the Nation Championships and I went to a small D-3 college so it wasn't a huge deal.
Me: Oh I see. We all live in Kentucky for the most part, so we are ether Kentucky fans or Louisville fans. I am a Kentucky fan, and my dad is a Louisville fan. I do have an uncle who is a big Norte Dame fan however. I forgot why he is though, even though he did tell me a few times.
Xave: From what I've seen, Kentucky is know for their college sports. Huge down there right?
Me: Yes, football and basketball is our big college sports I think. However, we only have a minor league baseball team in the Louisville Bats and a Semi-pro soccer team called Louisville City in terms of pro sports.
Xave: I hear that. Sioux Falls has only semi-pro teams. Though our basketball team is a feeder for the Heat which is... odd.
Me: I see. I don't watch the NBA that much, but the Heat are one of my favorite teams.
Xave: Hey you may have seen a player that came to Sioux Falls first lol.
Me: I see. Now what made you choose the position of your player that you did?
Xave: A lot of it came down to seeing what positions are most in need, though I knew I wanted to be on defense as I love that side of the game. Thought about being a CB but felt that a DT more lined up with how I wanted to influence the game. Seeing players like Aaron Donald shows just how much damage a good DT can do.
Me: As a Bengals fan, trust me I know all about Araon Donald.
Xave: Haha yeah you just had a real close encounter with him.
Me: Anyways, any backstory ideas for your player yet?
Xave: Yeah so I made his Wiki page as a player that was good in High School but chose to study business at a small D-3 school instead of pursuing a D-1 school. However, he still played in college and got scouted in his Senior year. Got sold on the idea of joining the ISFL and now has his first game in the DSFL off waivers tomorrow. He got picked on as a kid which fuels his hits as well.
Me: Alright I see. Backstory media's are always welcome in this league. Now graphics are a great way to earn money, although not everyone does graphics. Do you have any interest in doing any graphics? Graphics are given money based on a grading scale by the way.
Xave: I'm not great at graphic design or art in general. I'll stick more to analysis and written media. I really want to start a power ranking list of ISFL and DSFL teams starting next season. Something to encourage myself to dip really deep into stats and see why teams are doing well. I'm hoping it helps me make more sense of the Sim and how to better gauge a team's overall strengths and weaknesses
Me: There are a lot of people here who absolutely love analyzing media like that
Xave: Yeah with such a robust Index from the simulation it would be a shame to not take advantage of it.
Me: That's what a lot of people would like to hear. Would you ever have any interest in getting a league job in order to make extra league money?
Xave: Absolutely. I love deep diving into communities and taking on leadership roles when possible. If I get really hooked, which I suspect I will, I could see myself either becoming a GM for a team or even join HO.
Me: Well I am sure some GMs are now salivating at your potential. Can you tell me how you found the league?
Xave: Got hooked by a Reddit post advertising the league on R/NFL. I've played a ton of simulation games with a majority of them revolving around football so it seemed a no brainer. Usually in those I was a coach but being a player adds a whole new element to it. For me, it's the strategy of how to get small advantages position by position to generate wins. Being able to be a part as a cog in a machine is just so appealing.
Me: Can you give some examples of the simulation games you played?
Xave: Sure thing. The one I've put the most time into is a mobile game titled Pro Football Coach. I've simulated 109 seasons coaching the Minnesota Voyagers (game doesn't have trademark rights) and have them to 72 Division wins and 20 titles in that time. The game features a similar stat system so I feel it's given me a good basis for the ISFL. Played some Madden here and there, Backyard Football if we're going way back. I also simulate basketball (Basketball Story), Tennis (Tennis Story) and even eSports. My crowning simulation achievement is being ranked #1 globally for 6 months straight on a small game title RIVALS eSports Manager, though I've since stopped.
So no stranger to simulation games by any stretch.
Me: Yep, there will be a lot of GMs keeping thier eye on you. The only simulation like games that I am truly familiar with and have played is Out of the Patk Baseball.
Xave: I've heard of that one!
Me: Anyways, you seem like a user that GMs will love and i think that I will let you go for now. I'll set up the interview media itself later, and if I can I'll give you all the money from it. I don't need extra money right now but you do.
Xave: Oh alright, don't have to do that, but will gladly accept it if you want! Appreciate the time and encouragement. Ready to get drafted in the next few weeks and make a mark early.
Me: Alright see you later.
Xave:See ya around!
GMs I hope you are now paying attention to this guy, he has potential written all over him. Thank you all for reading and I hope to see you all on the field+
