This offseason, 75% of my current TPE will be regressed – meaning that Brandon Booker will be autoretired. I have a few things to say, so I wanted to write an official post.
As many of you will have noticed, I kept on earning until the end of Booker’s career but I’m not as active as I was. I haven’t written any media or held any league jobs since stepping down as Orange County Otters GM after Season 31. I don’t currently have any plans to recreate. That’s not to say I’ll never come back, I’ve seen too many people say goodbye forever and then return two draft classes later.
I’ll try and keep this from being as wordy as it could be, as the posts I wrote after one year in the league and in the offseason PT post in which we were asked to say positive things about each other still stand – feel free to read those (again) if you want.
I will shout out some of my fellow Otters one more time though, who showed me that there was a team of people who were as passionate about the league as I was. Thank you to @Laser, @jeffie43, @Blasoon, @speculadora and @scorycory for being instrumental in bringing me to Orange County, and thank you to some of my other great teammates in @ReverendOReily, @Revolution5, @Eldorian, @Gwdjohnson, @BigKicks, @RotticusScott, @Nhamlet and @Sushi. Thank you for the honour of GMing the ISFL’s most storied team, and especially @Blasoon and @Gragg9 for GMing the team with me. Thanks to some of my favourite draft picks, @Gragg9 (again), @shrub02, @Dallypole, @Haseo, @bowl0, @legion of slugs, @MattBake12, and some of their draft picks: @Minnesotafine, @KaleSalad, @CementHands, @ThunderTitan82 and of course @Briedaqueduc – who have taken the team to one Ultimus appearance since I stepped down and will hopefully take the team to many more once they get a younger defensive back with working knees.
Brandon Booker’s career is probably worth its own post, as I’m not sure how he’ll be remembered in ISFL history. He’s a hard player to evaluate, with his career including the final season of the 13-game era and being bisected by the sim switch in S27. His first five seasons, the last of the DDSPF16 era, were phenomenal. At the conclusion of his fifth season, he was on pace for approximately 48 interceptions (2nd all-time), 199 passes defended (at the time, 2nd all-time) and 15 defensive touchdowns (1st all-time), had been selected to three Pro Bowls and been nominated for four awards (finishing 2nd in Cornerback of the Year twice), leading the league in turnovers in one of those seasons. Following the sim switch, he was a consistently good player but was never as good as he was earlier in his career. He was only selected to one more Pro Bowl (S29), the same season he was nominated for his third Cornerback of the Year award. Cornerbacks get many more PDs in DDSPF21 and some younger cornerbacks have already overtaken him in that category, and playing his final two seasons at safety and then nickelback did his stats no favours either. Anyway, Booker retires with the following accolades:
Team Accomplishments
S21 Ultimini Champion (MBB)
S33 Ultimus Appearance (OCO)
Awards
DSFL Pro Bowl Selection (1): S21
DSFL Defensive Back of the Year Nominee (1): S21
ISFL Pro Bowl Selection (4): S23, S24, S26, S29
ISFL Cornerback of the Year Nominee (3): S23, S24, S29
ISFL Returner of the Year Nominee (1): S26
ISFL Defensive Performance of the Year Nominee (1): S23
League Records
964 Tackles (T-24th)
204 Passes Defended (T-8th)
37 Interceptions (T-4th)
8 Defensive Touchdowns (T-3rd)
14.4 Average Punt Return Yards (4th)
Longest Punt Return (98 yards, @ ARI S26 W1)
Longest Punt Return Touchdown (98 yards, @ ARI S26 W1)
Season Records:
2 Defensive Touchdowns in S23, S24 (T-16th with about 75 players)
Franchise Records:
Orange County
701 Tackles (9th)
148 Passes Defended (2nd)
22 Interceptions (T-5th)
3 Defensive Touchdowns (T-8th)
Philadelphia
56 Passes Defended (18th)
15 Interceptions (7th)
5 Defensive Touchdowns (3rd)
If I never make another player, Booker had a decent career.
I’ll probably stick around most of the ISFL discord servers for a while, and you can find me in WSBL and SHL if you really miss me. Thank you for the last 2+ years, everyone.
