The slowest marathon ever completed was by a Japanese athlete named Shizo Kanakuri. During the 1912 Stockholm Olympics, he passed out in the middle of the marathon, and when he eventually woke up, he left the race and flew back to Japan without notifying the officials, and was considered a missing person. It wasn’t until 1967 when a Swedish news station covering the story offered him the opportunity to finally finish the race, thus leaving him with a final time of 54 years, 8 months, 6 days, 5 hours, 32 minutes and 20.379 seconds
