Quendyn Quarterstorm was invited to a charity doubles badminton tournament to raise money and awareness for Jubilee Women's Center in Seattle, Washington. Jubilee is a transitional home for women, offering residents a place of community where they can heal from crisis and domestic abuse and get a fresh start. When Quendyn's mom Gina was younger, she was helped by one of these types of organizations, so Quendyn gave no second thought to participating in this cause. Unfortunately, goodwill does not translate to skill. Quendyn had zero experience in the sport, and the irregular flight path of the shuttlecock and the small surface area of the racket gave him problems all day. Luckily, his partner was a superb player, and although he frequently got in her way, she was able to carry the duo deep into the tournament. Ultimately, though, Quendyn became an insurmountable liability as the pair was defeated by a team in which both players were skillful. In the end, everybody was a winner as the event managed to raise $64,000 for Jubilee.
