Welcome back to the second installment of my weekly reviews of my rookie season! For week 4 of the season, this review will cover games 11 , 12 , and 13 ! Let's get down to it, shall we?
Continuing where we left off, our eleventh game of the season was against OCO again. The game ended in a heartbreaking loss for us as we lost 17-23. The things that stood out were total yardage, the turnover margin, number of first downs, penalties, and time of possession. At first glance and mention, these stats would tell you that NOLA should have won this game or at least shows how it was a close game for NOLA to win, yet it was OCO who came away with the victory. Let's go over each of these stats shall we? The total yardage difference was massive between both teams; OCO got 371 total yards compared to NOLA's 259; this difference was largely due to the near twice difference in factor of passing yards between both teams. The number of first downs was also a big difference as Sarasota had 15 first downs, while NOLA had only 13. OCO had 11 penalties for 80 yards, while NOLA only had 2 penalties for 15 yards. The time of possession was a massive difference as OCO had the ball for 36 minutes while NOLA only had the ball for 24 minutes. The reasons that led to OCO winning this game was the turnover battle. The turnover battle was lost by NOLA 0-1 as NOLA lost one fumble deep in OCO territory and deep in the fourth quarter that would have helped to seal the game away then but led to OCO capitalizing and winning the game instead.
Let us now head to game 12 of the season! Our 12th game of the season was against the Hahalua again. The game ended in complete and unmitigated defeat for us as the final score became a large 23-10. The things that stood out this game, like the other losses were third down conversion, number of first downs, time of possession, the rushing discrepancy, and the number of turnovers. At first glance and mention, these stats corroborate the statement that NOLA should have definitely lost this game! Let's go over each of these stats shall we? The number of first downs was a massive difference as HON had 11 first downs, while NOLA had only 12. The time of possession discrepancy was also massive as HON only had TOP for nearly 28 minutes, while NOLA had TOP for just nearly 32 minutes. The main reasons that led to NOLA massively losing this game were just not converting on drives when needed and just getting shut down by an elite Honolulu defense as evidenced by the 3 fumbles that were forced upon us by them. This game was a good learning one as we needed to learn how to navigate and beat elite defenses in future seasons.
Our 13th game of the season was against the Arizona Outlaws again. The game ended in a victory for us as we won 24-13. The things that stood out were total yardage, the turnover margin, number of first downs, penalties, and time of possession. At first glance and mention, these stats would tell you that AZ should have won this game, yet it was NOLA who came away with the victory. Let's go over each of these stats shall we? The total yardage difference was massive between both teams; AZ got 371 total yards compared to NOLA's 390; this difference was largely due to the near twice difference in factor of rushing yards between both teams. The number of first downs was also a big difference as AZ had 17 first downs, while NOLA had only 15. AZ had 2 penalties for 22 yards, while NOLA only had 2 penalties for 10 yards. The time of possession discrepancy was also massive as AZ only had TOP for 31 minutes, while NOLA had TOP for 29 minutes. The true equalizer that led to NOLA winning this game was the rushing discrepancy. NOLA had nearly 200 rushing yards with 197 yards while AZ only had just over 110 rushing yards, leading to the comfortable win as NOLA also did not turn the ball over as well!
That should wrap up the fourth of the weekly reviews of my first season with NOLA. The final one of the season should be close and ready to go ASAP! See you soon again!
