Honored and excited to be the new Awards Head for the DSFL! Since I am currently an Awards Committee of one, I'll be writing this week's Player of the Week piece myself, with two goals: First, to give potential Committee members an idea of my vision for what these "Players of the Week" write-ups will look like, and Secondly, to advertise that I'm hiring for the DSFL Awards Committee and I need more people! (That's also why I'm putting this in Media for visibility; future Players of the Week write-ups will be made under Department Announcements.) EDIT: This might or might not be true? Pending additional information.
If you read this media piece and think, "I could do a better job than that," or "This guy's picks are trash," or "This seems interesting, and I have Thoughts about it," then join the Committee to be part of the weekly debate! We'll be responsible for deciding Offensive, Defensive, and Special Teams Players of the Week for each calendar week of the DSFL regular season, and posting a write-up similar to this one. We'll also be keeping an eye on player performance throughout the season to debate and compile the lists of nominees for the DSFL Annual Awards after the regular season concludes!

Like I said, I'm writing this entire piece myself out of necessity, but for future pieces Awards Committee members will collaborate. It helps that since there was only one DSFL game this week, there isn't as much material to discuss. Future Player of the Week awards will require assessing combined player performance over multiple games! Let's get into it, shall we?
Offensive Player of the Week -- QB Pete Zuh, Norfolk Seawolves
Stats: 12/16, 112 yds, 1 TD, 1 INT, 242 rush yds, 3 rush TDs
That passing line won't blow anyone away, but it was Pete Zuh's truly historic performance on the ground that makes him the Offensive Player of the Week. The Bondi Beach Buccaneers just didn't know what to do with the Seawolves QB whenever he tucked the ball in and took off, and he scrambled his way to a whopping 242 yards, including TD carries of 75, 64 and 49 yards. He was the Seawolves' offense in their 38-20 victory, accounting for 28 of their points. With 354 yards of total offense, he produced more than 80% of Norfolk's offensive yardage and exceeded the Buccaneers' team total of 280 yards by himself! It was a bizarre game, an incredible game, and a night neither the player nor Seawolves fans are likely to forget any time soon!
Defensive Player of the Week -- S Roma Amir-Kani, Portland Pythons
Stats: 4 tackles, 2 INT, 2 PD, 1 TD
It's difficult to pick just one defensive player to honor when the Pythons defense forced the Grey Ducks into an incredible 8 turnovers, including 6 interceptions, but let's go with the sophomore Slovenian strong safety. Amir-Kani was the only Portland player to take one of those 6 interceptions directly to the house for 6 points, and it proved to be decisive in the the Pythons' ugly 23-21 victory. Both teams struggled in this contest, as the Pythons committed 3 painful turnovers of their own to keep the Grey Ducks within striking distance despite their best efforts to give the game away. But Amir-Kani and the rest of the Portland defense never let up on Minnesota when their own offense was having a hard time moving the ball, and came away with a well-deserved victory.
Special Teams Player of the Week -- K/P Savathun T. Witchqueen, Tijuana Luchadores
Stats: 3/3 XPs, 1/2 FGs, 7 punts, 51.1 punting average, 5 punts Inside 20
Savathun T. Witchqueen, or La Reina Bruja as they've become known among Luchadores fans, was a field position weapon for Tijuana in Game 1 against Dallas. With booming punts and the sheer terror of their inhuman presence, the Arizona Outlaws prospect pinned the visiting Bird Dogs deep in their own territory no less than 5 times. Their punting leg was called up 7 times and they delivered an average of over 50 yards, including a career-best 65-yarder that flipped the field from the TIJ 9 to the DAL 25, to go with a 60-yarder earlier in the game. They did miss a field goal from 43 yards, but made one later on from 45, and were flawless on extra points. There's no doubt that Witchqueen's efforts were key in Tijuana's 24-21 victory to open the season.
