Thanks for taking a gander at my submission! I submitted this last season, but it got snubbed, so second time’s the charm, eh? I proudly present my submission.
For Your Consideration - Manila for the S36 Ultimus
Where will the Ultimus/Mini be held?
Manila, baby!
Why have you chose this city?
Asia has a lot of experience with the ISFL, with cities such as Singapore, Seoul, Jakarta and Hong Kong either hosting an Ultimus/Ultimini or making the shortlist. Despite this, there are currently no teams located in the continent. An Ultimus coming to Manila can potentially boost the fanbase not just in the country, but it can potentially lead to more Asian teams.
The Philippines loves its sports. The country has its own sports leagues, such as the Philippine Basketball Association, the Philippine Football Association (soccer for you Americans) and the Philippine Baseball League. There have also been attempts to make an American Football league in the Philippines, the most recent being in 2018 with the Philippine-American Football League. The country loves sports so much that it even was the host city for the 2019 SEA Games (pretty much the Olympics for Southeast Asia.)
It’s also home to some world-class athletes, including boxing legend Manny Pacquiao, US Open Women’s Champion Yuka Saso, and (probably most important in this case) American Football players such as former Tennessee Titans o-lineman Eugene Amano and former Bronco/NY Jet quarterback and Jaguars tight end Tim Tebow. A Ultimus held in Manila would be embraced immediately by the Filipinos.
What will the Ultimus’ stadium be?
There’s a reason this baby (currently)* holds the record for the world’s largest indoor sports arena.
The Philippine Arena is the only logical choice for this one. Established in 2014, by 2051 it would have provided the Filipinos with almost 40 years of hard-working service - a true testament to the Filipino people.
While it’s about 19 miles away from Manila, it’s still a quick drive/bus or jeepney ride from the city. The field size, 720 by 560 feet, can snugly fit a football field in it. Plus, it has a roof, which’ll keep the ISFL fans safe from the brutal Philippine heat.
*Currently, a stadium is being built in Davao City that seats 75K. I’m assuming it’d probably be built by the time 2051 rolls around, but it’s in Davao, not Manila. Your loss, KJC King Dome.
What is there to do during Ultimus Week?
Manila earned over 9 billion US dollars in 2019 (before rona), and for good reason. The city has it all; UNESCO World Heritage/historical sites (San Agustin Church, Fort Santiago, Rizal Park, the National Museum), shopping malls (the 600+ store SM Mall of Asia, alongside SM’s other sister malls in Manila), casinos that’ll probably hold watch parties/betting rooms for the Ultimus for those interested (Resorts World Manila, Okada Manila, Solaire, etc) and that’s just in Metro Manila alone. The other parts of Manila include so much more. Take a tour of amazing food in Binondo! Lose yourself in the entertainment in Makati! Enjoy the nightlife in Quezon City! There’s something for everyone here.
What’s the logo?
The logo utilizes a major part of the Filipino culture - the sun. Found on the flag, I took a more modern take on it and colored it so that it showed the vibrant diversity that can be seen in Manila - a key role of the city.
I also made a logo for the field, made to look like the Philippine flag.
Please note that these aren’t polished - I’ll work with the HO, if nominated, to polish this up.
I hope y’all enjoyed reading my submission! Mabuhay!
