Hi folks, me again. The man behind the mask, the bread to the butter, the purveyor of disrespecting non-Portland-based snake teams. If you know you know.
Now, we're here to talk about updates. Why? Well, because I'm a psychopath that gets enjoyment out of organizing even the most benign aspects of my life, such as my dot football player updates!
A while back I made an entire Notion page that made it easier for me to do a lot of the things the forums empower us to do to improve our players. For those of you out there who may have felt a bit overwhelmed by the forum structure at first, or are looking for optimizations for your ISFL "stack", the information below is for you. This post is a bit disjointed because my ADHD kicks like a mule at the weirdest times, so just bear with me here
To start, here's my overly simplified breakdown of how the economy of the ISFL works:
Ways to earn TPE
- Point Tasks
- Activity Checks
- Predictions
- Training Camp
- Weekly Training (requires Cash)
- [Seasonal] Equipment (requires Cash)
Ways to earn Cash
- Graphics
- Media (Written + Podcasts)
- Twitter
- Jobs
- Player Salary
- Discord (ISFL)
- Casino
1. There are four (4) free TPE activities available: PTs, ACs, Preds, and TC.
2. There are two (2) TPE activities that require cash -- WT and Equipment.
3. Said cash can be obtained through any of the activities listed above.
When I was first starting in the league, I wanted to get a jump on earning as much cash as possible since I had a baby on the way. I still wanted to be a max earner, so my goal was and has been to earn enough cash to purchase $1M / 5 TPE WTs and Tier 6 Equipment for every season my player is active. Without digging it up I'm actually not sure how many seasons you get before retirement (I'll update if anyone knows the answer, though I think it's 14 seasons), but I figure I'll need at least the following to max out in any given season: (8 (weeks in a season) * 1M (for max WT TPE)) + (13.5M * 1 (for Tier 6 equipment)), for a total of $21.5M in league cash (or $301M across a full career). I know the math is probably off here a bit, though I think the logic is fairly sound.
$413M sounds like a ton. Like, a real lot of cash. And if I really want to be a max earner while I have other commitments, I figure I might as well build a system to help me stay organized and make it as easy as possible to actually hit that number. And that's more or less what I've done, thinking about all the above.
Here's what my ISFL stack looks like in practice:
Source of Truth - this is where I've sorta rebuilt the front page of the ISFL forums based on how my own brain organizes information. You can duplicate this page in Notion if you want to create a template for yourself.
Pending Claims - this is how I keep track of any TPE claim threads that require an action but cannot immediately be claimed (e.g. PTs require a post in a claim thread, whereas ACs can be claimed immediately). I log all of this information using the Markdown formatting that the forum recognizes, so that when I post and/or edit I don't need to mess around with the fucky WYSIWYG options. You can duplicate this page in Notion if you want to create a template for yourself.
Pending Updates - this and the Pending Claims pages are far and away the most useful tools I've built to help me manage my ISFL player. I just duplicate from my template (or the most recent update), change the text values based on any activities from my Pending Claims and changes to my player's stats and attributes, and voila -- good to go. I think the end result looks really clean, but again that's just how my mind organizes information and is a matter of preference. For anyone else who may have trouble with the existing defaults and templates, I'd encourage you to give those resources a look at least. You can duplicate this page in Notion if you want to create a template for yourself.
How to use the Pending Updates page:
1. Be sure to update the values to match your player so you can use that as your own template moving forward.
2. When you want to update each week, just keep this page updated. When you're ready to update your player on your ISFL Update Page, just copy/paste the block of text into a new update.
3. If anyone is interested in copying what my Update Page looks like (example below), here's the exact markdown you can use as a template:
I hope y'all find this useful. If you have any questions about how to use the sheet or how to optimize your own ISFL stack, hit me with questions in this thread or in the ISFL Discord. Happy to help however I can, especially for the newer folks out there!
