WHY PHILADELPHIA?
You mean, Chilladelphia, the city of brotherly love? You'd have a much harder time coming up with a list of reasons why the Ultimus would not be in Philly. Time to get educated.
Philadelphia is one of the oldest cities in the union, dating all the way back to 1682. Its rich history includes: acting as a cradle for the American Revolution, hosting the First Continental Congress, being the birthplace of the Declaration of Independence, and serving as the first capital city of the United States of America. And who can forget, Philadelphia is home to the Liberty Bell (after which the team is named), which was the signal that marked the reading of the United States Declaration of Independence. Philly also holds a notable spot on the world stage as America's first city named to the Organization of World Heritage cities.
The skyline over the Schuylkill River. The cheesesteaks. 30th Street Station. Kimmel Center. The University of Pennsylvania. The sights and stories baked within the heart of this city are almost too numerous to be counted.
Why do you think Rocky is from Philly? Because this is the heart of America, that's why. Philly is home to a team in all four major sports, including the oldest dating back to 1883. Philly is also the birth place of Kevin Bacon -- yeah, that's right, KEVIN. BACON.
You're welcome, America.
Alright, so you're still not convinced that the Ultimus should be directly intertwined with the native streets of Kevin Bacon? Well, let me tell you..
The Philadelphia Liberty were one of the ISFL's first expansion teams, first joining the league in ISFL Y2017 (S2). It didn't take long for the Liberty to establish themselves as one of the pre-imminent ISFL franchises, reaching the playoffs in four of their first six seasons and winning an Ultimus in S7. That legacy would continue on with a stretch of five playoff appearances in a row (including two more Ultimus appearances) from S12 - S16.
Though a bit removed from the dynasty of yore, today's Liberty still hold true to their ISFL brand and strong sense of community. Past and present GMs of Philadelphia -- Cody, Pat, Negs, and Lucid Dreams -- have injected a fandom into the Philly area that has revitalized the land around Taco Bell Stadium. Businesses are thriving, cheesesteaks have never tasted better, and there's even a hot sauce fountain directly outside of the stadium where you can dip your Pat's Steak (sponsored by Taco Bell, of course).
Bringing an Ultimus to Philly would not only be a celebration of the league and its history, but also a flagship event for one of the richest and longest-standing cultures in the Western hemisphere.
