First and foremost: thanks for making MANILA4MINI happen, gang! Manila means a shit ton to me, and it being a winning bid was amazing. The field and logo that @qWest made was so damn beautiful, and…man, I can’t think of any more words to say.
But enough of the past, let’s focus on the present.
For Your Consideration: New Jersey for the S37 Ultimus
Where will the Ultimus/Mini be held?
NEWWWWWW JERSEYYYYYYYY!
Why have you chose this state?
New Jersey is an amazing state. If you start from any city - lets pick my hometown, Vineland, you see a culture. Vineland is a city with its own beliefs, it’s own landmarks, it’s own little bubble. Almost everyone knows everyone, and it’d be common to see people at the local restaurant or pool hall on a lazy Saturday. If you drive about 45 minutes in any direction on the compass, however, you’ll get to witness so much more. If you go East on the Atlantic City Expressway, for instance, you get to see Atlantic City, home to casinos, amusement parks, and it’s world-famous boardwalk. North? Camden awaits, with its massive Rutgers campus, museums, aquariums and bridge to Philadelphia. South? Wildwood awaits, an amazing part of the Jersey Shore, dotted with amusement parks and storefronts. And that’s just in the South - in North Jersey, you have so much more; Little Manilas and Chinatowns in Jersey City, Newark and Elizabeth. Italians in the Dover Beaches and Caldwell, and so much more. There’s tons of cities besides those, each with their own cultures, but they all tell you just how diverse NJ is.
The state also loves its sports. Not only is it home to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, Seton Hall Pirates and Princeton Tigers, it’s also the birthplace to several teams engrained in sports history. Before departing for Brooklyn, the Nets put roots in Jersey for almost 40 years, making back-to-back finals in 01-02 and 02-03, but not winning either. The Cinderella story of last years March Madness, St. Peter’s University, is located in Jersey City. The New Jersey Devils have “dominated” the NHL for about 40 years in Newark. Camden is home to the Philadelphia 76ers practice facility, while Hudson County hosts the MLS’s New York Red Bulls. The state has a team in the USFL, the NJ Generals, which…well, they’re a team alright. Lastly, we all know about the New York Jets and Giants, who take residence at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford.
Sporting legends also hail from NJ: in just football alone, you have amazing players, a small portion of which includes Joe Flacco, Malcolm Jenkins, Greg Olson, Quentin Nelson, Minkah Fitzpatrick, Larry Ogunjobi, Mike Gesicki, Jabrill Peppers, Mark Ingram and K’Waun Williams. Baseball? Mike Fucking Trout. That’s all you need. Legends and Hall-of-Famers like Shaq, Kyrie Irving, Karl-Anthony Towns and Dennis Rodman headline the basketball group. There’s so many more athletes I can name, but what I’m trying to say is this - NJ loves its sports, and an Ultimus would immediately be embraced.
Where would the Ultimus be held?
There’s really only one logical option here.
MetLife Stadium! Seating 82K, there would be plenty of room for ISFL fans to support their team. Having opened in 2012, it’d have been THE football stadium for NJ for about 30 years, which’s not bad for a stadium.
Located NEAR Central Jersey (but it’s actually near New York), it’s location is perfect for both fans in the state as well as worldwide watchers. MetLife hosted a goddamn SUPER BOWL, for crying out loud, so it knows a thing or two about hosting championship games. The fact it’s an outdoor stadium may throw a few people off, but other than that, it’d be a perfect stadium.
What would you do when not watching dot football?
Lemme just list off, like, 10 things in NJ you can do off the top of my head.
• Enjoy the thrill at Six Flags Great Adventure and Safari.
• Visit the massive American Dream Meadowlands, located a stones throw away from MetLife.
• Soak up the sun at the Jersey Shore.
• Gamble your life away at the casinos in Atlantic City.
• Look in awe at the museums and aquariums that dot the state.
• Check out the numerous zoos - from Cape May to Bergen County.
• Gawk at the students in the numerous colleges, such as Princeton and Rutgers, and watch them talk.
• Heckle Thomas Edison and his estate at Menlo Park.
• Gamble pretty much your last dollar (if you aren’t broke already from Atlantic City) at the Monmouth Race Track.
• Spend your last penny (if you’re not in the red from Atlantic City and Monmouth) at the numerous shopping malls, from Deptford to Cumberland and everything else.
What will the logo look like?
One of the biggest and most memorable cities in NJ is Atlantic City - this logo pays homage to it. Utilizing both the Poker Kings and the CgEuropa fonts, I wanted to convey things that embody the ISFL well: luck and skill.
Again, this isn’t polished: I’ll work with the graphics designers to make this as clean as possible.
I hope you enjoyed reading this!
