Offensive Player of the Week
Running Back – Lalu Muhammad Zohri – Chicago - @kentakira
Zohri made a strong case for MVP this week as the Chicago Butchers team on his back and ran them in for a 3-win week to put them back in playoff contention. That wasn’t the only thing he was running in though as he was voted offensive player of the week for his 382 yards and 8 TDs he put up. Averaging more than 125 yards a game is excellent for any running back but getting into the end zone 8 times in 3 games was what set Zohri apart this week. Over the 16-game season he would finish with 42 TDs at his current pace, nearly double the single season record.
Last season only 9 RBs had more than 8 TDs across the entire season so Zohri has made a strong case for a pro bowl in a single week. With this week he gained both the ground yardage and TD league across all running backs and has set himself up nicely for a shot at some more awards at the end of the season.
Defensive Player of the Week
Cornerback – Kalam Mekhar – Yellowknife @ZootTX
This week's defensive player of the week comes from the #1 defence in the league where he has been leading from the front. Mekhar came into the week with only 1 INT on the season so far but decided to return to form by picking off every QB he played against. Mekhar finished the week with 4 INTs across the 3 games and 6 PDs, asking questions of other CBs as to why they don’t just intercept the ball instead of defending it? Finishing with a very respectable 61% catch rate, Mekhar might be avoided by upcoming QBs as we move into the business end of the season.
Special Teams Player of the Week
Kicker/Punter - Alfonso Dos Santos – New Orleans @toivo
After watching Week 1 of the NFL season, it’s clear how important a reliable kicker is to a team and there were none more reliable than Alfonso Dos Santos this week. He went 6/6 on both Field Goals and Extra points this week including turning the tide in their Week 10 game against New York, taking the team from 7-10 down to 16-10 in the lead with 3 consecutive FGs from 43, 48 and 51 yards. He was also great from outside of FG range with an average punt of over 50 yards, including pinning the opposition within their own 20 on 57% of his punts.
