Fresh off his 1OA selection in the S37 DSFL draft, life came at Tank McGibbons fast. His new coaching staff and front office personnel were quick to talk him into not only a position switch, but to completely change sides. Tank, who played his college football as an offensive lineman, found himself anchoring a stellar Dallas Birddogs defense as the MLB1. Always one to grind his way to the top, Tank dove in head first to the drills and lessons his coaches were trying to instill, and he amassed 73 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, 2 forces fumbles, 4 pass deflections, and even blocked a field goal over the course of 14 games. From these stats alone you would think that Tank had played defense his whole life.
During the DSFL season, Tank quickly found himself elevated within the locker room. Tank had demonstrated incredible football knowledge that the coaching staff and front office wanted to capitalize upon. Doing everything he could to help his team win, Tank worked tirelessly on the field and in the war room. Around this same time, the World Football Championship came calling. Encouraged by the same front office staffers that saw potential in Tank initially, Tank found himself co-GMing the Midwest WFC team, despite being too green to play on it himself. That Midwest team has found themselves in position to compete for the WFC title this year.
All this culminated on the night of the S38 ISFL draft. Tank sat with family and friends, expecting to hear his name called sometime in the first half of round 1. All the writers and experts projected him to go early round 1, but he was not considered a 1oa pick. But that didn't bother Tank, he knew that he would step up to whatever challenge lay in front of him, and accolades aren't his motivation, love of the game is.
However, there was a surprise in store for Tank on that night. The Austin Copperheads held the first pick and once they were on the clock, Tank's phone rang. It was the Austin front office welcoming him to the Copperheads. Tank could not believe it, he was the first overall pick again, defying all the experts and draft boards. Now, I don't know how many times in history that the first overall selection in the DSFL draft was also the first overall selection in the following ISFL draft, but Tank certainly has found himself in elite company.
Following the draft, Tank returned to life as normal, well his new normal. He had his WFC team to see to, needed to help prepare Dallas for the DSFL draft, and of course had his own workouts to see to. A few days later, Tank was in discussions over his new contract with Austin, and a new bombshell dropped. Austin intended to call Tank up for service immediately. No more development time, Tank found himself heading to play at the highest level possible.
"Of course, you can elect to stay in Dallas another season should you prefer," the Austin front office offered. But Tank knew that could never be an option. His whole life he had always stepped up to every challenge laid at his feet, his parents would never let him shy away or take an easier option, and that lesson had stuck. Without so much as a second thought, Tank signed the contract, and is now preparing to face the best of the best in the ISFL, fully intent on making his impact felt.
What about his Dallas war room work, and the WFC team you may find yourself wondering. Well, Tank fully intends to see the DSFL draft through, since the ISFL season starts after. And the WFC title game will be over by the time things get into full swing. It seems that Tank will be able to complete all his obligations, without worry of distraction from the task at hand, helping to rebuild Austin into a championship contending team.
