Kansas City News: Sport Section
Last Thursday, we got to see the S38 DSFL draft, Our local team were picking first in a pool of players that some experts says was the better one of the last 5 years, so it made this draft way more exciting. If you don't remember, the Coyotes went 4-10-0 in last season, some games were definitively hard to watch, but maybe with this draft, these dark days will be behind us. Kansas City got 8 news players Thursday, 6 draft picks, 1 trade, and they also claim the first waivers of S38 a few hours later. In this next segment, we will present for you, your new Yotes puppies.
1st overall pick: Seth Leavitt, TE, University of Rhode Island
This was not a big secret, Leavitt was by far a fan and GM favorite. You want the perfect TE? stay right here we got Seth Leavitt for you. With his big size, standing at 6f6 255 lbs, his presence on the line of scrimmage is almost perfect, He can blocks DE, and LB without a problem, in college his capacity to create gasp or block were so strong, that he was used on 90% of the play, that can also tell us that he has enough stamina for DSFL level. His reception play is also on point, on his last college year, he got an outstanding 52 receptions for 720 yards gains, and 6 touchdowns. I think its right to say that this is a player that can change a football dynasty, if you are like us, you cant wait to see this guy put the coyotes shirt and go in actions.
9th overall pick: Colton Cannon, KP, University of North Dakota
Colton was predicted to be the first kicker to get named in this draft, and the logic was respected as our Coyotes got this excellent player with their 2nd round pick. Cannon is a precision kicker, when he his under 45 yards, he usually don't miss if the kicking special team can keep the defense off. He is a decent punter too, capable of hitting punt under the opposite 10 yards lane is an underestimate skill in football in general. He also have a bit of power to those boots, making him an excellent kickoff candidate aswell. In short, if you need any role that involve kicking a football, Cannon is the man of the situation.
17th overall pick: Luigi Lanikai, CB, University of Hawaii
This pick was an interesting one for sure, this titan of a player standing at 5f 9 for 69 lbs (nice) got the worst pre-draft test for the S38 class. He has done a fantastic 72s in 40 yards dash, a newborn could have done better, and an amazing 7'' in vertical jump... for a CB it look like a lot of problems. Maybe Kansas city has seen something that we don't have, but for the moment, it would have been better to draft his brother Mario who will ben without a doubt a fantastic player.
KCC Trade their s38 33th pick
The Yotes had a surprise for us before their 33th pick. They traded this pick to Norfolk for the veteran QB Creg Jerrith IV. Just with this trade, we already know that we will have a better season this year. Jerrith has already made is mark in the DSFL, and I cant wait to see him brings our WR and TE to another level.
39th overall pick: Colby Haskins, CB, Florida State
In 5th round, the Coyotes got another CB in Colby Haskins. He got a pretty great last year in Florida, he defended 27 passes, got 7 interceptions with 1 touchdowns, and 52 tackles. He's pretty good, specially in man to man cover. He is not the kind of players that will make spectacular play, but he will always be reliable. With the training of the DSFL, it will help him gain some muscles and mass to make tackling more easily.
41th overall pick: Jordan Baribeault, CB, University of Connecticut
I think Kansa city were out of CB this season, because they picked their 3rd CB of this draft with Jordan Baribeault from Connecticut. This speedy CB his the counterpart of our last pick, he his better to cover zone than to do man to man, but his speed is unmatch, and can help to catch even faster WR. He was the best of his team for pick 6, four of his 8 interceptions last season were returned for a touchdown. Haskins and Baribeault will be very fun to watch in the future.
49th overall pick: Ryan Eastbrook, RB, Villanova University
Last pick of this draft, and for the Yotes, they decided to go with the running back Ryan Eastbrook. Ryan is more of a receiver than a running back, he have amazing hands to catch, its a good point, but right now his running play is not on the DSFL level, he need to be faster and stronger if he want to succeed in this league, but if the Coyotes got him, its because they saw potential, so who know, maybe in a couple of years, he will be a great running back.
Waiver Claim: Sim Sunigh, LB, Penn State University
Not long after the draft, Kansas city has announced that they signed the first waiver of the season, Sim Sunigh, a LB from Pennsylvanie. Its a big gamble to take with Sunigh, because he didn't play at all last season because of an injury to his coccyx, and its an injury that can let him with a weakness, and can break it more easily than normal. in his second year in college, he was a pretty dominant LB, with 136 tackles, 11 sacks, 8 forced fumbles, and 2 interceptions, he was a force of nature, and got nominated for defensive player of the year. Sadly his injury will have cost him a place on the draft of this year, but Kansa city are ready to take the risk, and maybe they got the steal of this draft.
To conclude, we can be proud of what the GM have done in this draft, I think that in short to mid term, our team and city can think of an Ultimini championship coming our way. Dont forget to buy your season ticket, and go Yotes go!
