I love that you can go in and look back at all the previous records that have been set in the league, especially considering that it has been going on for almost 38 full seasons now! It really gives you goals to achieve in terms of your player's personal goals as well as team goals. My favorite thing is that in the DSFL the longest punt in DSFL history has been accomplished this season at 66 yards, that's insane! Rushing yards in a game was also broken, and 275 yards is crazy in a DSFL game when you think about it. I think the only thing that I would say that I would like to see is the ability to see your team's stats on the team page, that way I can go in and sort by a specific category within the team, as the current index let's your sort by team but then you can't sort any other category at the same time.
The index is a blessing, and a curse. I've had times through my various players careers where I check it obsessively to see what my stats were, who else got good stats and where do I stand in awards races compared to them. I've made decisions on which teams I would or wouldn't play for based off it, but then on the other hand I've had seasons where I've ignored it for the most part and just had fun watching the dots. I think it would truly benefit from providing all of the statistics that are shown in the Sim, including advanced stats - as often these are most relevant and interesting for the bigger picture than the basic view we get. I also think the Sim can misrepresent players with statistics due to the nature of the coding (incompletions being calculated before deciding if a pass was dropped or not, DPI only existing on completed passes etc).
the index is is an neat thing honestly. when i first joined the league back in february 2020 i did a media on sacks. all the research was done there in the index. i looked back at all the sack totals for the league starting back as far as i could. thinking back, what i discovered was there was a definite favoritism for sacks! the league leaders in sacks in the beggining of the league had astronmical season sack totals. the totals were upwards of thirty sacks if irecall correctly. after asking around and checking with some of the long tenured league vets, i found out that after the first few seasons there were limitations set in place to limit sack totals. some of the limitations were strategy limits regarding formations and blitz packages. Additionally, i believe offensive line bot use was initiated aroudn the same time. the season sack totals dipped dramatically after the rule changes and the numbers became much more reasonable and in line with totals you see in pro football. there were still some outlier season sck totals after the rule changes but the impact of the rule changes could definitely be felt.
I absolutely adore the index simply because of its ability to be used as a historical reference. Keeping track of all the little stats and team win to loss records of the seasons by hand would be an absolute disaster and so having the index do that for us is a game changer. Any time you need to do media for the league, the index is always there. You want to write about the team that has the most wins in league history? The index is there. You want to write about the team with the longest Ultimus draught? The index is there to track all their ups and downs through the entire journey. You want to compare rosters across generations? Was the S28 Honolulu team better than the S38 team? Whelp, you can hop into the index and see which team had the highest overalls in the sim. As a league reference it is the single most valuable thing we have and if it were to ever crash, I think the league folds soon after.
Like what everyone else has seem to be saying, I love the Index, we love the Index. It is where most of us, me like wise go to get information on positions as well as stats for the league. I love being able to see the rushing stats. Being able to constantly compare myself to DreamSloth and seeing that I will never be better since they have, as of this post, 3 TDs which is 2 more TDs than me. Don't even get me started with other stat comparisons, it makes me glum. Anyways, the Index is an amazing space, aside from how aesthetically boring it is, it does bring the information to life. The Index is a blessing. My favorite section to the Index would have to be the records section. Although it is visually boring to browse through, the information on the pages are interesting. You can find so many interesting things, for me it would be the rushing records. It keeps me motivated to continue playing as a RB. Thank you to the people who added in the Index and those who keep it updated, you're appreciated. <3.
Some people say the index is scary.
Some people say the index is "too many numbers."
The worst among them may even say the index is boring.
Well those people are idiots and their opinions shouldn't count. The index is a magical thing. A wonderland where anything and everything is possible. A statistical sandbox where the world of the ISFL is made real. Where dreams take root. Where both hearts and records are broken. The index is a fabric through which our reality is woven. If you can't get lost in that sauce, then I don't know what to tell you.
As an awards committee member, I spend a decent chunk of each week combing through the index, looking for those golden nuggets hidden amongst the wins and losses. It is a home to me. A safe, warm blanket to curl up beneath and bask in the tranquil radiance of statistical analysis.
Index is good. Index is life. Index is everything.
