It is that time of year, in the United States of America at least. Some times I forget to really think of the things that I am truly thankful for. This year I am trying to get back into being a more positive person. So why not start with sharing some things I am thankful this as of this year.
First off, who can believe it has been over two years since I joined this crazy fake football league because of a random redditt post I saw. I rememeber at first how daunting and over whelming it was trying to navigate the forum. And don't get me started on how much the utlimis task seemed impossible at that time. I remember not doing it the first time around because I just couldn't figure out what to write about, after all I was new and completely clueless.
But luckily I did stick it out through that first draft and ended up going to the Tijuana Luchadores. That first player was a lot of fun. Learning about the league and getting to know some of the people was great. It definitely helped that covid slowed my day to day job stuff down, so I had some free time to devote to writing tons of fairly surface level articles about who was leading the league at each position. While it was super thoughtful or most likely even interesting, it made for some solid money making for my first player.
That being said I am super thankful for all the people who make this league happen. I realize no one here is actually getting paid to do this, at least I assume no one else is getting paid, but lots of you devote a large amount of your time to help keep this league functioning and I truly want to say thank you!!
Without all the GMs, HO, department heads, all the department people helping get stuff done, and of course the players themselves who help make this place function pretty well.
Of course I am also super thankful for all the people I have met in my two plus years here. Seems crazy to think how long it has been and I am barely on my second player in this league. Tons of love for all my Tijuana posse. Super greatful to have been drafted there and have since continued to be a part of the locker room throughout my first player well after he was gone from the team. Also super happy to have been drafted there with my second player as well, and this time I get to spend a little longer there, hopefully with some success, but either way it has been lots of fun so far.
Next up, I am super thankful to all the Wraiths I have met and having been drafted there twice now. Can't wait to get my chance there with the new player. Some how managed two championships with them, still crazy to think about. Glad to have been called up early to get more time with the team, and for my player to catch a few extra balls and get a couple more touchdowns.
On to real life, lots to be thankful. First off, never take your health for granted, be thankful you have your health. You never know when it can be gone. On that side I do urge you to try and do the most you can to keep your health as long as you can. This means as little as getting up and going for daily walks, you would be surprised how much it can help. I am not going to tell you to eat healthy all the time, but I do strongly recommend trying to add some veggies in as much as you can. It really does help.
Second up, I am thankful for my real life family. I know not every one get's to have a supportive family and I hate that for you. I am thankful for the family I have and how much support they are willing to offer when needed. And I feel like because of that I am in a better place to offer support back to whover needs it. I will include my good friends in this part because I feel good friends are just as important and in some cases more important than family, in the end good friends choose each other. Family is not always something you can choose, while a friend is always a choice. Take care of your friendships.
Thirdly, I am beyond thankful for my wife. She has and is helping make me a better person. She is always there for me. Which can't be easy as I can be a very difficult person at times. I definitely got very lucky she decided I was worth getting to know and eventually marry. We have both been through some hard times during our relationship and it really has made us stronger together. That is not to say it is always easy. It has taken a lot of work for both of us and a lot of growth for us as people and as a couple.
I think going off all of that, sometimes you have to take a step back and look at yourself and really think about who and what you want to be. Do you want to be known as that person who is always in a bad mood and never wants to do anything? Or do you want to be someone who looks at things from a better viewpoint and tries to spread that to others? I have found when I am looking at things in a negative way I tend to try and pass that one to others, not as a plan, but it just happens. I heard someone say, "Hurt people hurt people", and in my experience it is true. When I am hurt, I end up passing that hurt on to others. The inverse is true, when I am in a positive mindset, I am much more likely to try and be nice and help others.
So, thanks to all of you for everything you do for this league and for the world (like the charity drive) and keep on being good human beings and happy holidays and all that.
