It’s that time again where I give my best evaluations on each team that has scouted me (or not!!!!). Not that anyone would remember but I did call it in my last rendition of this when I correctly predicted my current Developmental Simulation Football League (DSFL) team, the Minnesota Grey Ducks, would pick me. This time around though, man do I feel way less confident. I do have a list of 3 teams that I think will pick me (which I will get into below). I really feel like a lot of teams in the International Simulation Football League (ISFL) are not really in a position to take a running back this season with the amount of running backs there are from the last few drafts, specifically seasons 36 and 38. So despite being a max earner, I can definitely see myself falling out of the first round based on positional need and based on overall scouting.
At this time, I think I have had most of the ISFL teams reach out to me. I am pretty shocked that not every team has reached out to me to confirm whether or not I plan to stay as a running back at least but hey, it is what it is. So like my last article, I will break down each team and the likelihood of them drafting me based on their running back situation (my analysis might be off due to call-ups or people going IA) and our scouting discussion/lack thereof.
Baltimore Hawks : A+
I had a really good conversation with Baltimore and instead of leading up to this, we’re ripping the damn band-aid off. I think this is my most likely landing spot. The tough part is, are they going to draft me over Dude Man (Jake Williams). I honestly can’t say for certain and that’s the only thing making me cautious in being fully confident in where I end up. I think this would be a great fit and I already have some friends on the team - it seems like a perfect fit but you never know! So with that being said, I grade this out as an A+.
Berlin Fire Salamanders : C+
Berlin is in an interesting predicament. They don’t have any early picks so it doesn’t seem likely that they will draft me however there is always the chance I fall in the draft. I have made it known that I don’t want to be a luxury pick. I want a team with a plan and would rather fall than waste away in a non-ideal situation. So ultimately if Baltimore goes a different route and Chicago doesn’t take me than I think this is possible. It is an ideal situation to go into and it is unfortunate they don’t have any picks but that’s the price you pay to fight for an Ultimus. Because I won’t have too many high grades I am going to give this one a C+.
Cape Town Crash (formerly Philadelphia Liberty) : F
When I was being scouted this team was still the Philadelphia Liberty. The next thing I know the Liberty were no more and neither was the communication for scouting. Joking aside, it would have been cool to play for the Liberty. I don’t hate the relocation although the logo is so-so. I’m not here for ranking their branding decisions. Ultimately, I have no idea how I would fit with this team’s plans as they have other needs outside of running back for sure. They have two season 36 running backs, one a fullback and the other a power back. If anything, it was a due diligence scouting DM and that’s okay - I just appreciate a team reaching out. So with all that said, we have our first F of the article!
Chicago Butchers : B
I had a good conversation with Chicago and I’m very curious to see if I end up here. It’s another great landing spot with an ideal situation to be brought into. They have a great history with running backs and I’m not gonna lie - the location of the team is certainly something that I like a lot (I go to Riot Fest in Chicago IRL). Outside of that, this one probably one of my favorite conversations this time around for being scouted. I hope it works out where they can grab me, much like Baltimore or Berlin. All of these teams would streamline my path to being a starter earlier and taking on a role for the team that I am seeking. Based on this, they are getting a solid B.
Colorado Yeti : C
Guess what? That’s right, another good conversation. I can’t say I won’t be a little repetitive with the format of this but it is true that I enjoy being scouted and while I don’t have some high standard, it is nice to make small talk and have the scouts be timely and answer questions. I was encouraged that Colorado don’t plan on going Yeeti but I think this is another possible destination if I fall, which I think is completely possible. I think maybe my only con is that I was asked about Running Back By Committee and I said it wasn’t my first choice but that I was open to it. That might have been a red flag but I’d rather be honest about those things. Either way, I’m totally open to landing here and I’m curious to see if that’s how things play out. It does sound like defense might be a priority so that mixed with what I mentioned before I’m giving them a C.
Sarasota Sailfish : C-
This was a solid conversation with Sarasota. This is one of the teams that I’ve always been intrigued by (best Florida branding among sim leagues in my opinion) and has been run by some great users over the years. This seems a little bit of a long shot like Berlin as they have bigger needs like QB and LB. Still, I think there’s a possibility there if I fall for Sarasota to swoop in and grab me. With the improbability of me falling mixed with a solid conversation has me ranking the Sailfish a C-.
Yellowknife Wraiths : F
This was a quick conversation as the Wraiths already have a busy backfield but the team wanted to do their due diligence which I appreciate. Yellowknife would be a cool place to land but I already know there is really no chance of me landing here. Plus, Taylor left his stink here with LT so maybe by my next recreate that’ll finally be gone. All jokes aside, this is another F just based on team need plain and simple.
Arizona Outlaws : F
Much like Yellowknife, this was a due diligence scouting effort. I knew with Crunk going there last draft (I think it was the last draft) there was no shot I was going to be picked up by Arizona but I appreciated the “i don't want you to tell me "you never scouted me"” LMAO so this one is an obvious F.
Austin Copperheads : F
I ended up reaching out to Unconfident cause no one reached out to me… FEELSBADMAN!! You think you know someone… but yeah it doesn’t sound like they need a running back which is a bummer cause it would be cool to play for UC and i’ve always enjoyed Austin’s branding. This one is another F grade. Sadge.
Honolulu Hahalua : D
This was another team that didn’t reach out to me (I don’t think they did at least LOL). That being said, much like the team I will talk about next, I think they recently drafted a running back or at least semi-recently. I think with their giant rebuild they would probably rather focus on other positions than running back. Not sure since they didn’t reach out OMEGALUL based on the unknown I’ll give em a D.
New Orleans Second Line : F
I did not receive a message from New Orleans for scouting. I am not really surprised as they just used a very high draft pick on a running back just last season I believe. Unless something drastic has happened (it hasn’t), this is yet another F grade.
New York Silverbacks : D
My old team. They have a good thing going right now and we had a pretty short conversation as I was already pretty aware of their running back situation. As much as I would love to return to New York I do think I prefer going to a new team and getting to experience a new locker room and representing a new team. So with all that said, I’ll give New York a D.
Orange County Otters : C+
I enjoyed the conversation I had with Orange County and am pretty intrigued by their situation. It didn’t seem like running back would be a top priority but it could be something they try to pick up in the second or third round. Again, I have no idea if I end up falling as I’m essentially up against not only existing backs on teams but also Dude Man and Sebster. If I fall, I certainly could see myself landing here and I’m certainly open to it. Based on everything I said above, I’ll give the Otters a C+.
San Jose Sabercats : D
I did not receive a message from San Jose for scouting. I am a little bummed but they just might not have a need or draft picks available to feel like it’s worth reaching out. I know I’ve talked about them before in previous media but have never tried to be rude about my time there. So based on the above and the uncertainty of me falling or not I will give this one a D grade.
This was fun to do and while I’m a little bummed not all teams reached out to me, I love being on this end of the scouting process and talking to General Managers and scouts from teams. It is funny that the ASFC teams have barely scouted me in comparison to the NSFC. I do believe that if I don’t go to Baltimore or Chicago in the first round that I will go in the second to maybe Orange County or Colorado. I don’t really see myself dropping out of the second but that would lead to Berlin swooping me up in the third. It is totally possible there’s a wildcard in here that I’m not thinking is happening but I wanted to lay out my thoughts as the draft is happening offline. Hopefully this doesn't end up super awkward especially as the General Managers will see this for a couple days before I know what my destination will ultimately be on Friday.
