Hello all! Welcome to this season's edition of the Line of Scrimmage! Below please find a table of contents as to topics that will be addressed in this edition of the league newsletter.
Table of Contents:
1 - ISFL HO Changes!
2 - DSFL HO Changes!
3 - ISFL and DSFL GM Changes!
4 - New Retention Committee!
5 - Philadelphia Rebrand!
6 - Server Costs for the Forum
7 - Job Hirings
8 - '23 Potential Swap
9 - Miscellaneous League Reminders
1 - ISFL HO Changes!
After a 6-month tenure in HO, @XaveValor has decided to step away from the position. Thankfully, he is staying on as the CM head and we are very thankful for the work he puts into that position as well as the work he did for us in HO. Thank you, Xave!
Stepping into a full HO role from his intern position is @dreamsloth! Dreamsloth has provided some excellent input and perspective in our discussions in HO, and it is a pleasure to be working alongside him as a full voting member!
Our other intern from the past two season, @dude_man, has moved on to a new position as well, meaning that we are hiring two new interns for ISFL HO! We have some great applicants that we look forward to welcoming to join us within the coming few days, but at this time we are not quite ready to announce them.
2 - DSFL HO Changes!
In our DSFL counterpart, we have one major change in the ranks of HO members. After a tenure of a year and three months in HO, @yonggarius has stepped down from his position. He was one of the hardest-working members that we have seen in the league, and we are very grateful to him for the work that he put in to help make the league a better place.
@AK41 will be stepping up from his intern position to fill that open gap in HO! AK has been very forward-focused since he stepped foot in HO and it seemed to be a no-brainer to bring him aboard into full-fledged position!
As for interns, @TubaDeus has stepped down from his interning position in favor of another position - more on that later as well. DSFL HO is also hiring interns, although they are not ready to announce those appointments quite yet either. Check back in later this week to see the newest interns at both levels of HO!
3 - ISFL and DSFL GM Changes!
We have several GMing changes to announce! First of all, after a tenure of a year, @NicholasTheGreat is moving on from his GM position of the Baltimore Hawks. In his place, dude_man will be taking over as the new co-GM alongside Trempale! Dude has been a staple in the front lines of league activity for a long time and I know he will do well with his appointment to GMing.
Next, the Berlin Fire Salamanders have had a change! Stepping away from his position is @rapideagle. Despite the lucrative pay the league offers, he chose to instead take that Hulu money and move on to other stages of his career. In his stead, @r0tzbua is returning to the front lines of league management and is taking over as the co-GM next to Dewalt! R0tz has been in a GM position before, and in fact is the person who created the templates for the wonderful graphics you see on screen during matchdays, so I have great faith in this duo's command over the German franchise.
At the DSFL level, @firstfray has laid aside his mantle as the Kansas City Coyote GM after holding the position for nearly 14 months. FF has done a lot of good with the Coyote organization, showing commitment and resilience through some less than ideal situations and never wavering in his mission. We thank you for all you have done for the Coyotes and for the rookies, FF! To take over for him and join domffl at the KCC helm is none other than recent DSFL HO intern TubaDeus! For those of you keeping track at home, that is two recent DSFL HO members or interns that are currently coaching the Coyotes. Tuba has prior GM experience with the Minnesota Grey Ducks and I am sure will do great things with the Coyotes in the seasons to come.
4 - New Retention Committee!
As just very recently finalized via combined HO vote, the ISFL and DSFL have chosen to create a new committee focused on retention. @AK41 will be heading up this committee, and he will have an announcement and job hiring post out about it soon. I do want to plug it here as well though and give a basic overview of what we hope to see from this committee. Ideally, the committee will reach out to users who have left the league and figure out the reason(s) why, then list those reasons in a report to HO and the recruitment department where we will see what changes may need to be made in the league. This committee will also offer support for users who perhaps feel overwhelmed when first joining.
5 - Philadelphia Rebrand!
As you can see in this announcement, The Philadelphia Liberty have relocated and rebranded as the Cape Town Crash! The current and former GMs, the team's war room, and the entire team's locker room put in a lot of effort and passion to recreate their identity and settled on Cape Town as a new home. This marks the first relocation since the Las Vegas Legion, and we are excited to see what legacy this newly refreshed team can forge for themselves in the coming seasons. Please join us in welcoming the Cape Town Crash to the ISFL!
6 - Server Costs for the Forum
The ISFL website, the one you're reading this commissioner newsletter on, takes real money to upkeep. It is something that largely goes under the radar, but today we want to bring it back up to the community as well as give an update on where the league is at in terms of finances.
As can be seen in the above screenshot, the balance for the league account currently sits at $135. $99 of that is specifically to pay server costs and the remaining amount can be used for other league-related things, typically recruitment ads. Each month, the server charges to keep the website up and running are $31.85. Additionally, we pay $12 per year for the domain itself.
Currently, we have enough money to pay for 4 more months of server costs. While this is fantastic and we are grateful to each person that has donated to keep this site alive, we would like to put this expense out there once again and bring it to the forefront of the community's mind. The link on the sidebar that says Donate to the ISFL is the same link as this: https://ko-fi.com/supportisfl and is for the express purpose of keeping this wonderful community alive and well. While we are not at all worried about the league running out of money, we do ask that you please consider donating if you find yourself in a position to safely do so, and if not, please continue enjoying the league with no regrets. The link will always be on the sidebar as well so you don't have to constantly refer back to this post!
8 - Potential Sim Transfer to DDSPF '23
As posted by @Pat here, the sim balance team is making preliminary investigations into a potential sim transfer later down the line. While certainly very far from a certainty, it is exciting that we may be able to upgrade sims in the future and take advantage of Dark Mode, among other upgrades to statistics! It is important to note that if the sim transfer team does decide that a swap would be best for the league, we would not be making a transition until S43 at the absolute earliest. This would mean that June to July would be the point where the window for a swap would open - and if it is decided against, that will also be communicated as soon as possible. Although the deadline to apply to help test is now passed, it is always worth reaching out to offer help if you believe you may be of service!
9 - Miscellaneous League Reminders
As noted by Darkness here, the charity tournament will soon be under way! Tune in tonight at 8 to watch the opening stages, and Friday night to watch the championships!
Regression is live now! Don't forget to take the HO-mandated fairness tax out of your player so that everyone else has a chance!
[url=https://forums.sim-football.com/showthread.php?tid=41844]Here is the schedule for the rest of the offseason, and here is the schedule for the S39 regular season! Please look out for the changes because of Christmas!
That concludes this edition of the newsletter! We look forward to the 39th season of the league and thank each of you for participating in this fun niche online community!
