Greetings ISFL! With the end of another season soon to be upon us, it is time for another edition of the ISFL Line Of Scrimmage! I want to first of all thank @DarknessRising for writing the majority of this newsletter for me. And then, a table of contents before we get right into it:
Table of Contents:
1 - League surveys coming
2 - Charity Free TPE PT
3 - My Tpe Checklist
4 - Free Weekly Training Cahnge?
5 - R/NFL class + how to interact with reddit posts
6 - WFC delay
7 - Love one another (post-zap)
8 - HO Changes/Intern Hires
1 - Upcoming League Survey
Approaching soon, we will be sending out two separate surveys one week apart. Each of these surveys will award TPE for full completion.
Firstly, the Sim Balance Team is looking for some more information regarding a wide variety of things. This survey is a bit more in depth than some other you may see, but it won’t take you too long to fill out and it’s invaluable information that will help shape not only how potential upcoming balancing changes for DDSPF 21 will be approached, but how the team looks at potentially making a move to DDSPF 23 if their testing shows that a move would be beneficial. Please be as honest and descriptive as you can in your answers, and if you don’t have anything to be descriptive about, just put that! There are no right or wrong answers to this survey and the more genuine the userbase is the better data the team will have to work off of.
Secondly, we will be putting out a league-wide survey after the sim balance team specific-survey closes. We will essentially be asking for the opinions about various processes, departments, and HO performance with this second survey. It will not be as long, but genuine answers are still important to HO and to all departments that will be submitting questions. As I like to say, we can’t fix what we don’t know is broken.
Completion of the Balance Team survey will award you with 3 TPE, and completion of the league-wide survey will award you with an additional 2 TPE. None of this TPE will be claimable until the S40 regression post has gone up, and both surveys will have their TPE awarded in the same claim thread post.
2 - Charity Free TPE PT
Whilst very late, the 3 Free Charity TPE PT has finally been released. You can find it HERE to earn yourself 3 instantly claimable TPE to celebrate our accomplishment as a league in coming together and fundraising for two outstanding causes. The tasks can be completed by anyone, including the new S41 class creates, with its deadline coinciding with the end of the S40 pre-season, Sunday the 19th of February.
3 - NEW My TPE Checklist
We're excited to announce the latest forum enhancement: My TPE Checklist! Thanks to @Swanty for creating this very helpful tool!
This personally tailored and always up-to-date checklist will list out all TPE opportunities that are currently available for completion and will strikethrough those which you have already completed (or those you have a PT/OT pass for and don't need to do). You can find the checklist on the forums home page. If you're on mobile, it'll be front and center just above the list of forums. On desktop, it'll be at the top of the sidebar to the right. If at this moment, you're thinking 'I don't need a checklist cluttering up my ISFL, I can manage my tasks just fine, thanks', we have a solution for you! Simply go to your profile settings: https://forums.sim-football.com/usercp.p...on=profile and tick the box that says 'Hide TPE Checklist' and you will never have to see it again.
Some more details on exactly what the checklist will list out:
- Any open non-stickied forum threads in the Activity Checks, Point Task and Training Camp subforums with links directly to each thread
- Dummy tasks for Weekly Training and T6 Equipment that link to your personal bank page
For the forum threads, it will strikethrough the task if it sees that you have posted in that thread, or if it finds a bank transaction for a relevant PT/OT/Predictions pass. So it cannot tell if you've followed the task's instructions correctly, just that you have made at least one post.
For Weekly Training and T6 Equipment, it will strikethrough each task if it detects that you have purchased training this week or T6 Equipment this season.
If anything doesn't look right or if you have any questions, feel free to either DM Swanty directly on Discord or post in #help-channel in the ISFL server!
4 - First Free Weekly Training Change
Recently in the ISFL General Discord Suggestion Box Channel, was the idea to remove the first free weekly training thread. The thought was that since we now have the automatic banking system integrated into the site, it would be better for the new user experience to be taught how to interact with the normal bank system, rather than doing a different method just once. Discussion with all relevant parties has happened, and as it is very achievable to implement, this change will be coming in the near future. All it takes on the backend is a change of a number so new accounts will start with some funds to cover the normally free weekly training.
Following this up, we wanted to highlight two things from this:
1. HO is always on the lookout for suggestions, and will constantly check the suggestion box in the general discord as well as the suggestion box on the forum found HERE. If you ever have an idea or change you think will make the league a better place, smoother operation or anything in between, you can always leave a message or forum post there, as well as go to any member of HO directly.
2. The idea of giving brand new accounts more money to allow them to start off with less stress about earning more money to keep earning in the future or afford their equipment. This sprouted off the back of the suggested change to first free weekly training, and will be something HO, RM’s as well as the newly made retention department will look at more holistically to see what would be the best way to go about it if we come to the conclusion that it would be beneficial. There is some balance between giving users a bunch of cash for nothing, locking it all behind contracts that have to be posted after clearing waivers or the draft, and putting it in the Rookie Tasks to really push interacting and understanding the forums.
5 - R/NFL class + how to interact with reddit posts
It was recently announced to GMs and likely trickled down to a lot of users in War Rooms and Locker Rooms, but the hard work of the recruitment team will see the next batch of fresh faces, the S41 class, be our treasured “reddit” class, or more correctly, r/NFL class. Hopes are high it can give us a large boost in the quantity of users.
This is also a great time then to remind everyone how we wish to have people respond when the posts go up. Please do not comment on any posts without getting the approval of HO or @slate, our Recruitment Head, first, as well as try to sporadically upvote, instead of everyone doing it straight away to lower the risk of being treated as spam.
6 - WFC Delayed
Unfortunately, due to all the behind the scenes work required to make the WFC tournament come to life every other season and it occurring around the holiday break, the WFC will not be happening in this off-season. You can look forward to its return in S40 and use the extra time to rally up more regional pride.
7 - Love one another (post-zap)
By now, everyone is probably aware of the latest incident surrounding not just our league, but our sim league community overall and the behaviour of certain users that are despicable and never invited here. Let this serve as another reminder that this league is built on being an amazing community of friends and positivity, coming together over dots that play football on our screens.
Without our community and the bonds we form, this league would not exist anywhere near the form it does and its important to remind ourselves to always try and be positive to one another, especially refraining from attacking individuals and making others feel excluded based on their personal characteristics. The ISFL, and all sim leagues, strive to be open to anyone and everyone, and create an online environment that all can feel comfortable in spending their time and meeting new people, not standing for intolerant and aggressive behaviour.
8 - HO Changes/Intern Hires
To finalize a wrap-up of all HO changes since the last newsletter was posted, we’re happy to officially recognize the newest ISFL and DSFL Interns! At the ISFL level, we have hired longtime league member who held down the fort at Kansas City for quite some time and updater for a very long time, @firstfray ! And alongside him holding the second intern position, is a newer though extremely energetic and enthusiastic member, @voxaroth ! We are grateful for the input that both of these members have already provided!
In the DSFL, the new interns are league aficionado and overall excellent person @g2019, and alongside him is longtime league sweetheart and positive personality @SnowyWolfz ! I’ve been able to see both of them give a lot of good input into HO discussions as well, and I’m glad to see it!
Lastly, I want to link the league schedules for the upcoming playoff and offseason just to serve as a reminder. You can find the S39 Season Schedule HERE, and the S40 Offseason Schedule HERE. Keep an eye on the upcoming big events such as Free Agent List, Ultimus, Regression, and more!
