Day 1 of the prospect bowl has come and gone, and although some may say the stats and team standings don't matter, I say sure it does! So let's take a look at some of the standout performances from the first day! If this feels oddly like a Centurions post, well it's because they were actually able to move the ball and play great defense, so they have the majority of the best performers!
The Canberra Centurions, or CAN, (2-1, 67 PF - 44 PA) looked pretty dominate all day despite losing off a saftey in the first game, surrendering only 44 points in three games. Offensively, Gavin Hoppe was the main threat, racking up 198 yards on 41 carries (4.8 YPC), and a few touchdowns.
QB Lloyd Bannings (CAN) looked pretty solid throughout the games (285 YPG passing, 4TD - 4INT) but he probably felt that the first game was winnable had there been just one more touchdown in the cards. Definitely was the best QB of the group yesterday (there is nobody else that will be mentioned because its, well, not great otherwise)
Saul Elkton & Slim Reaper (both WR - CAN) were two of the highest preformers at WR, playing well and them grabbing some shots down the field!
Shoutout to the great defensive work by this team, Jayden Alexander (LB) racked up 15 tackles and the CB's on this team are lights out. Bradley Welch Jr. (CB) was engaged with a sparkling 14 tackles was challenged a lot (9 PD's) but did a great job shutting down any receiving threats, overall a stellar performance. Teams also thought Ivan Baldwin (CB) may be a target, but he did a great job in coverage with 7 PDs. Last, but not least, teams did not want to throw Kadarius Claypool ll's (CB) way at all (1 INT, 5 tackles, 4 PDs,1 TFL) but when the Spartans tried to tie it up late in the game, it was picked off by Claypool ll to seal the win. Last but not least Mary Marie (FS - 8 tackles, 2 INT, 8 PD) - studing it up along with the CB to create quite the formidable back end! This is quite the defensive back pool for this team, will be interesting how the board falls on draft day!
For the Mali Mastodons (2-1), MVP must be the DE Logjammed McBobface. Racked up 3 sacks at imporant spots in the games, 3 TFL, and 13 tackles overall. I should give a shoutout to CB Benjamin Duvernay, who had an excellent game with 17! tackles, 2 forced fumbles, and 8 PD's - without him the Mastodons defintely would not be 2-1. Lavondrius Dingle (CB) also had 11 tackles and 2 interceptions - pretty good day for the back end of this team.
Shoutout to Rick Skull, who averaged 5.2 YPC on the ground, 30 carries for 156 yards -- defintely the biggest offensie contributor outside of the AI QB!
Saskatchewan Spartans (1-2), not good! RB Dayton Mack (8.3 YPC) needs more touches! Only had 15! SSK couldn't get much going so you gotta give this guy the ball! Tyrone Petrovich Jr. (LB) played well for the team on defense, with 19 tackles, 1 TFL, 2 sacks and 3 PD! Seems like he was not only blitzing but dropping into coverage, first round grade?
Bill Cravy (CB) also played well with 21 tackles and 6PD, leading the back line.
Shelbyville Stallions (1-2), not good! This team insisted on giving Doggi O'Farraday (RB) the ball, but only racked up 92 yards on 39!! carries, for 2.4 YPC. Not gonna get it done. Sean Robinson (WR) played alright and led the team in receptions and yards (173), but its tough with AI QB.
Loose Cannon (LB) had 23 tackles, 1 sack and PD! Synystyr Gates (CB) played well on his side of the field, had 21 tackles an INT, and 5 PD!
Thats all for now, lets see how things progress in the following weeks!!!
