Birddogs Bring Home The Kill

It was a beautiful day at the Barkatorium for your 1-2 Dallas Birddogs to host the 1-2 Minnesota Grey Ducks, the field resplendent in fresh blue and yellow livery. The energy in the stadium was electric as the crowd enthusiastically welcomed their home team despite a rocky early season start, and it seems the positive crowd energy paid off with the Dogs ultimately sealing a dominant 37-14 victory over the Ducks.
This dominant win created a momentum shift for the Dogs, following a devastating 51-24 loss to the Seawolves in week 3. "So here’s what happened: we got our ass handed to us that game," comments Gadget, Co-GM of the Birddogs, "That’s a learning experience that we used to help us improve the run game. With RAINN at QB, our opponents have to respect the pass, so opening up the playbooks to get our talented RB group involved in the pass is the obvious evolution in order to get the most out of our players."
Key to this week's win was a clean performance from NCADV RAINN, posting up a respectable 236 yards in the air with a beautiful 38 yard TD to WR Wolfie McDummy Jr., but more importantly controlling the ball well with 0 passing turnovers on 27 attempts.
Spreading the ball around as well was the name of the game, with 179 rushing yards on 36 attempts collectively for the backfield unit. KK Slider posted an impressive 5.9 YPC and 3 TDs with the rest of the backfield putting up strong numbers and keeping the ball moving downfield.
"We have definitely focused on our running game. We have a running back committee that is one of the best in the DSFL," says Co-GM Mike Whiskey, "Slider, Ayame, and Battle Angel are all going to be contributing highly at the next level. Add the big dogs up front: Willis, Khali, and Peabody, and it's no wonder why our rushing attack is so strong. We count on the run game to open up our passing."
Defensively, week 4 was a powerhouse showing for CB Bobby Steel, charting 11 tackles and 2 PDs on the day and keeping his side of the field on solid lockdown. SS Mike Holiday made an impressive showing as well, with 5 tackles, 2 PDs, a sack and a forced fumble on the day.
Next week, the Doggies head north to Portland to take on the 1-3 Pythons. The Pythons, coming off a loss that extends a 3 game losing streak, should be hungry for a home win in a matchup that could prove to be a close call. The Pythons stand second in the league for rushing yards, behind only Dallas, but outshine Dallas in the passing game at 3rd in the league for passing yards ahead of Dallas at #8. Let's get a "Woof Woof!" and see if the Dogs can keep this winning streak alive!
