Presser Closed - *Ready to Grade*
The setting Texas sun brings the golden hour pouring through the glass windows as Josh Patterson enters the club level at Apogee Stadium in Denton, TX.
"Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Josh Patterson to the stage."
He approaches the media table with a look of quiet confidence as he takes his seat and takes a quick sip of water.
"Good evening everyone and thank you for joining me. I'm really looking forward to showing my skills at the upcoming Prospect Bowl for the league's GM's, but in the meantime, let's answer some questions."
18situaseans - "How have you found the league so far? Anything that makes it stand out from other leagues? Also, what made you pick cornerback for your position?"
"Thank you for the question, so far I've found the league very welcoming to us Rookies. I've been very impressed with how helpful General Managers and Veterans are, answering questions quickly and setting a great examples for us Rookies to follow. I think the professionalism displayed so far really stands-out. I chose to pursue CB because I know I need to learn before trying to be a leader in this league. That's what I'm all about, learning and growing as a player. Next Question!"
CROney3 - "Have you been asked to complete the league mandated drug screening yet?"
"First of all, thank you for the great questions CROney3. I am scheduled for my league mandated drug screening before camp begins per league rules. I don't foresee any issues there." I say with a quick wink.
CROney3 - "What are your favorite toppings on a burger?"
"I love a good burger, but I'm a pretty simple guy, Mustard, Pickles, lettuce, and Onion, double meat, double cheese. I did try one of those Mac and Cheese burgers once and it was pretty amazing."
CROney3 - "What is the longest road trip you've ever taken?"
"I've always been a fan of a good road trip. As a kid we would drive from Houston to Atlanta once a year to see family, and that always felt like an adventure but it was only sixteen hours driving time. My longest would probably be when I drove from Houston to Niagara Falls, New York. Took almost twenty-four hours of driving time over two days. Thanks again for the great questions! Who's next?"
crash1005 - "In pounds how much cheese could you eat in one sitting?"
"You know I've been giving this a lot of thought lately, and it does depend on the cheese. I'm not a cottage guy, it's too fancy so I stay away from that even though I am a cheese guy. I like a good sharp cheddar or smoked gouda. I could probably clear a good half pound of either of those, but can you imagine the constipation... I mean I'd still do it, but there would be consequences... The real question I think we all want to know is, How much cheese is too much cheese before a date? Thank you for the great question! Next?"
Twenty6 - "Do you prefer playing man-to-man or zone?"
"I've always preferred Man-to-man over zone. I like the challenge of covering their best receiver all game. Zone's for players that like to stand around and react, I like to be moving and to hit people!"
Twenty6 - "Do you have any memories of when you lived in Baton Rouge?"
"Absolutley! I remember attending an LSU game at like 3 years old. Wasn't old enough to truly appreciate the game but it's definitely a core memory. I remember my mom taking us all to the Baton Rouge Zoo and seeing the Giraffes. Touring the USS KIDD on the Mississippi river, sticking my fingers in the bullet holes at the capitol where Huey P Long was shot. Lots of great memories from my time there."
Twenty6 - "As a cornerback, getting an interception is likely your number one goal. To you, what type of play comes second?"
"For me, I want to lead the league in forced fumbles by a CB. I'm here to punish anyone near me with the ball. Separating the ball from the ball carrier will always be my number two. Thank you for the awesome questions Twenty6! Any others?"
wizard_literal - "Do you have any game day rituals?"
"I do have pretty specific ritual before game days. I try to keep it as simple as possible so it doesn't matter if I'm on the road or at home. Wake up, shower, light cardio workout to get the blood flowing, 2 scrambled eggs, 2 pieces of bacon and 2 pieces of toast, one glass of orange juice for breakfast after my workout. Next I start engaging my mind with the local papers crossword puzzle. I finish it up by going over my playbook before heading to the stadium for the game. After the game, gotta have a shower, ice plunge and then a nice steak. Appreciate the great question wizard_literal. Next Question?"
LtHudz - "Do you think Hotdogs are a type of taco or sandwich?"
"Wow, good question... Look I'm not a food critic, and I love a good hotdog, even better if it's a chili dog. However, tacos must come in a shell, soft or hard, the only way a hotdog would qualify as a taco is if it were placed in such shell/tortilla. Now where I'm from we eat our hotdogs in a bun of some making, I'm not saying it's the right or wrong way but it's the only way I've ever known. I'm going to go with sandwich until someone serves me a hotdog in a soft or hard shell/tortilla. Now I kind of want to try it not going to lie... but I feel like we need a different name for this concoction. Tacodog would be my go to... in fact I'm going to need to go trademark that after this interview. Thanks for the great question LtHudz! Anyone else?"
fnordypsyduck - "How do you feel about the city of Patterson, NJ stealing your given name?"
"I've never been to Paterson, NJ myself, but I believe they spell it a little different, in case there's any confusion out there, there's no relation to the city of Paterson, NJ. I've never been to New Jersey but I did enjoy the Sopranos... I see you have a follow-up question."
fnordypsyduck - "How many chocolate chip pancakes do you think you could eat in a single sitting?"
" I like a triple stack, but I with it being chocolate chip pancakes specifically I could get 5 down if we are talking plate size, not those wimpy saucer sized cakes.... I can take one more question from you before we have to move on."
fnordypsyduck - "If you were granted 3 wishes but they could only be used for your pet, what would your wishes be (you are not allowed to acquire more wishes through you wishes)?"
"This is a really creative question...okay let's see, obviously I'm going to wish for my pet to live in good health for as long as I am alive for the first wish. Second wish would be a lifetime supply of food for him. Third wish would be that his poop just magically disappears after he's done pooping. I really appreciate your awesome questions fnordypsyduck, thank you!"
"Thank you everyone again for attending my first press conference and being a part of history in the making. I'm really looking forward to tonight's Prospect Bowl and showing all the GM's what I can bring to their team. See you all out on the field!"
The Texas sun has faded to dark night in the windows of the Club Level at Apogee stadium. Josh Patterson exits the stage as camera flashes fill the room for a moment and he is out the door.
